A prediction model of community commitment and self-efficacy, using machine-learning: age-related differences in attitudes towards preventing social isolation among community-dwelling older adults

Purpose: We used machine learning to identify age-related differences in people's attitude concerning their community commitment and the community's self-efficacy for preventing social isolation among community-dwelling older adults. Methods: Anonymous self-administered questionnaire surveys were conducted in 2013 (N=528), 2016(N=888) and 2018(N=810) to randomly selected local residents in a municipality, aged ≥20years. The surveys included questions on personal attributes, a community commitment scale, and a self-efficacy scale for preventing social isolation among older adults. In the first phase, several machine-learning algorithms were applied to the responses from the <60-year and ≥60-year age groups for the 2013 and 2016 data to identify potential differences between the two age categories. In the second phase, the best-performing algorithm was applied to the 2018 data to predict the respondent's age group based on his/her responses. Results: The first phase analysis indicated, for the community commitment scale, a classification accuracy of 0.60 for the best-performing algorithm and a kappa-value of 0.18. The accuracy and kappa-value for the self-efficacy scale were 0.62 and 0.24, respectively. Using the 2018 test data, the prediction accuracies for the ≥60-year age group were 0.61 and 0.65 for the community commitment scale and self-efficacy scale, respectively, and those for the <60-year age group were 0.60 and 0.60, respectively. Conclusions: The results indicated awareness differences concerning community commitment and self-efficacy for preventing social isolation between residents aged <60 and ≥60 years. The responses of the residents aged ≥60 years showed slightly higher prediction accuracies, likely indicating more homogeneous responses.departmental bulletin pape

The mythification of haiku in Mexican literature

The insatiable quest for the exotic that characterized the modernist movement in Latin America spawned the importation of poetic genres from geographically and culturally distant countries leaving profound imprints on literary traditions in the region. Mexican poetry was particularly marked by exotic modernist representations of the far East and the new creative movements they inspired. However, in many cases this enthusiasm for novelty would translate new poetic forms into orientalized representations or conceptual distortions. The introduction of haiku into Mexican literary circles exemplifies this orientalist process and the propagation of essentialist discourse related to this poetic genre. Theories rooted in nihonjinron on the nature of haiku by prominent Mexican literary figures like the Noble laureate Octavio Paz, generated orientalist notions on the historic development and literary conceptualization of this Japanese poetry. The present essay attempt to shed light on how nihonjinron discourse propagated orientalist notions on haiku that shaped the reception and the conceptualization of this poetic genre in Mexican literary circles.departmental bulletin pape

今日の日本の教育においては特別支援教育の専門性のある教員の養成が求められている。本研究は、特別支援学校の教育実習に参加する学生を対象に、実習前後における意識の変容について調査した。実習前には多くの学生に不安が生じていたが、実習後にはほとんどの学生の不安が解消されており、特別支援学校の教育実習は実際に障害のある児童生徒との触れ合いが不安を軽減する大きな要因になることが示唆された。また、事前指導において通常学校の教育実習と特別支援学校の教育実習とは異なるものであると認識させておくことも大切である。指導案の作成については、事前に学んでおくことで実習前の不安の軽減につながることが示唆された。departmental bulletin pape

本研究は、乳がん術後女性のQOLを向上させることを目的として、乳房切除者が胸部を覆いながら入浴できるようにする入浴着に関する研究である。市販の入浴着、行政や有志による周知活動、乳がん患者の会の意識調査を予備調査として実施した。その結果、入浴着の認知度と使用状況は低いことが明らかになった。着用を躊躇する理由としては、着用が目立つことや購入先の不明確さが挙げられた。要望としては、シンプルで目立たないデザインが好まれている。これらの結果を踏まえて、入浴着の試作品を製作した。departmental bulletin pape

Suggestions from the care during end-of-life from Swedish single poor older adults

本研究の目的は、スウェーデン高齢者の人生の最終段階の居住現状において支援に関わる援助職の見解から、日本の貧困単身高齢者の看取りへの示唆を得ることである。スウェーデンで医療と福祉に関わる人6名にインタビューを実施し意味解釈の分析を行った。結果としてスウェーデンの貧困、施設ケア、住宅ケアの現状知見が得られた。単身世帯の増加する日本で、高齢者の自己決定は尊重されつつも過度の在宅主義に偏ることなく人生の最終段階の居住地として、複数の選択肢があることが望ましい。また、施設ケアスタッフが経験する入居者の死は2.5人称の死であり、デスカンファレンスといったケアギバーのケアの必要性の認識が求められる。The purpose of this study was to obtain suggestions for the care of poor single older adults in Japan from the perspective of aid workers involved in the end-of-life support for older adult residents of Sweden. A total of six people involved in medical care and welfare in Sweden were interviewed. Furthermore, their semantic interpretations were analyzed. Insights into the current state of poverty and institutional and home care in Sweden were gained. In Japan, as the number of single-person households increase, it is desirable that there are multiple options for the final stage of life. IN addition, society should respect the self-determination of older adults and not be biased towards excessive home-based principles. Furthermore, the institutional care staff experienced the death of a person who was not a direct family member, however, had become close to the staff(coined a 2.5th person by the author).
