Digital Archive from Archaeological Geophysical Surveys on the Brede Levels at Winchelsea, East Sussex, August 2024
This collection consists of GIS, Geophysics and text from earth resistance and magnetometer surveys by MOLA Northampton. Work occurred on the Brede Levels at Winchelsea, East Sussex, in August 2024. MOLA's surveys, and earlier work identified a complex of building remains (probably a medieval 'Blackfriars' priory) in St Leonard's Marsh and a set of suspected medieval or post medieval plot boundaries in Road Field, near Crutches Farm. A sparse scatter of other archaeological features, including parts of a medieval sea wall were detected elsewhere within the survey
Unlocking Old Windsor: An Assessment of Brian Hope-Taylor's 1953-58 Excavation Archive from Kingsbury, Old Windsor, Berkshire
This collection comprises image, text and spreadsheet data from the Unlocking Old Windsor project which made an assessment of Brian Hope-Taylor's 1953-58 excavation archive from Kingsbury, Old Windsor, Berkshire. Between 1953 and 1958 the late Brian Hope-Taylor undertook six seasons of excavation at the site. Discoveries included a remarkable sequence of Saxon and Early Norman remains from the 7th - 11th-centuries, reported at the time as including a Mid-Saxon settlement, a 9th-century mill leat and watermill, and a series of high-quality buildings and finds indicative of a Late Saxon and Early Norman royal complex. The Unlocking Old Windsor Project, funded by Historic England and undertaken as a collaboration between the University of Reading and Berkshire Archaeological Society, was created to take a substantial step forward to rehabilitate Hope-Taylor's excavations and to realise its potential as a site of national importance. The project sets out to consolidate, secure and digitally unify the archive and to analyse a key sample of the records to generate, for the first time, an informed archaeological narrative of the site and a robust evaluation of its potential for future research
Digital Archive from Archaeological Excavation at Newgate Lane East, Fareham, Hampshire, May 2023
This collection comprises images, databases, spreadsheets, and GIS data from an archaeological excavation at Newgate Lane East, Fareham, Hampshire. This work was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology in May 2023. A large amount of Late Iron Age to Early Roman material was recovered from 11 ditches forming two rectilinear enclosures and elements of three field systems were recorded on site. A large waste pit containing stone tools associated with grain processing and numerous smaller pits were in the central and eastern portions of site. Traces of domestic hearth waste was recovered from some of these pits, however neither the features found nor the quantities of hearth waste present was suggestive of any settlement within the excavation area
Digital Archive from a Magnetometry Survey at Gryphon Lodge Farm, Leigh, Wiltshire, March 2024
This collection consists of a vector graphic, GIS and geophysics data from a geophysical survey, comprising detailed magnetometry, by Archaeological Surveys Ltd. Work occurred ahead of the construction of a new fishing lake near Gryphon Lodge Farm, Leigh, Wiltshire in March 2024. A number of anomalies correspond with a shallow depression, although its origin is uncertain. Other anomalies appear to be associated with a low north to south bank within the field. A small number of discrete, pit-like anomalies have also been located as well as a number of positive linear anomalies; however, they lack clarity and their date and function are uncertain. Evidence of land drainage and agricultural activity have also been located
Digital Archive from a Magnetometer Survey at Melksham Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), Corsham, Wiltshire, April 2025
This collection comprises raw magnetometry data, greyscale images of processed magnetometry data and a CAD drawing from a magnetometer survey carried out by Archaeological Surveys Ltd in April 2025 over 12ha on land to the south of Brockleaze near Neston ahead of a new battery energy storage system (BESS) located 2.5km north-west of Melksham Substation
Digital Archive from an Archaeological Evaluation at Bradford Road, Trowbridge, July 2024
This collection consists of images, spreadsheets, GIS and site records from an archaeological evaluation by Archaeology England Ltd. Work occurred on land north of Bradford Road, Trowbridge, Wiltshire, in July 2024.Only one archaeological feature was encountered within Trench 2. Here a large quarry pit was recorded which was of late 18th to 19th century. An area of heat affected clay was also recorded within the neighbouring Trench 3
Digital Archive from a Magnetometer Survey at Little Rose Lane Energy Park, Blunsdon, Swindon, 2025
This collection comprises raw magnetometry data, a greyscale image of processed magnetometry data and a CAD drawing from a geophysical survey at Little Rose Lane Energy Park. Work was carried out by Archaeological Surveys Ltd in July 2025. The survey located the ditch associated with the remains of a "Highworth Circle", one of a larger group of circular enclosures within a 6km radius of Highworth that are likely to have been used for medieval stock control, along with evidence for another complete example to the north east, and also partial evidence for three possible further examples to the north
Digital Archive from a Magnetometer and Ground Penetrating Radar Survey at Sheepdrove Farm, East Garston, West Berkshire, September 2022
This collection consists of vector, geophysics and GIS data from a magnetometer and ground penetrating radar survey carried out by Archaeological Surveys Ltd at Sheepdrove Farm, East Garston, West Berkshire during September 2022
Digital Archive from a Magnetometer Survey at Brynards Hill, Royal Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire, 2024
This collection comprises raw magnetometry data, greyscale images of processed magnetometry data and a CAD drawing from a geophysical survey at Brynards Hill. Work was carried out by Archaeological Surveys Ltd in April 2024. The results of the survey revealed a fragmented curvilinear anomaly of archaeological potential extending around the contour of the hill just below the hilltop. A small number of sub-circular features were also located lower down the hillside in the western part of the survey area and these may also have archaeological potential
