Τὸ Μαρτυρολόγιο τοῦ Ἁγίου Ἰωάννου τοῦ Τραπεζουντίου σὲ ρουμανικὴ διασκευὴ (1643)

The Martyrologion of Saint Ioannis of Trapezus in a Romanian Adaptation (1643)  This paper presents the Romanian adaptation of the Martyrologion of Saint Ioannis of Trapezus, which was composed by Metropolitan of Moldavia Varlaam (1632-1653). The adaptation has particular interest. So why is given information for the author, as well as some issues related to the book that hosts the Martyrologion. Also the causes of his pension, its contents, its differences compared with the text of monk Gregory and the consequences of the adaptations of the Greek Martyrologion prepared then in the Romanian and the Greek territories.

Η παρούσα εισήγηση περιγράφει μια διδακτική πρόταση για το μάθημα των Θρησκευτικών της Δ΄ τάξης του Δημοτικού Σχολείου η οποία στηρίζεται στη χρήση νέων πρακτικών διδασκαλίας και βιωματικών δράσεων σύμφωνα με το Νέο Αναλυτικό Πρόγραμμα Σπουδών. Ως στόχο έχει την αποσαφήνιση εκ μέρους των μαθητών και μαθητριών των όρων μάρτυρας και νεομάρτυρας, την κατανόηση του ρόλου της θυσίας αίματος για την πίστη μας και τη γνωριμία του βίου και του μαρτυρίου της αγίας Κυράννας. Το προτεινόμενο σενάριο βασίζεται στις σύγχρονες διδακτικές αρχές της εποπτικότητας, αυτενέργειας, βιωματικότητας, ατομικότητας, επικαιρότητας και συνεργατικής μάθησης (Βοσνιάδου, 2006)

Saints and pilgrims in the Lykos valley (Asia Minor)

Στο άρθρο παρουσιάζονται τα πορίσματα των τελευταίων αρχαιολογικών ανασκαφών και ερευνών στις πόλεις της κοιλάδας του Λύκου, που πραγματοποιήθηκαν από την Ιταλική Αρχαιολογική Αποστολή στην Ιεράπολη και από το Πανεπιστήμιο του Παμουκαλέ στη Λαοδίκεια. Στην Ιεράπολη οι έρευνες έφεραν στο φως το εκτός των τειχών ιερό που οικοδομήθηκε γύρω από τον τάφο του αποστόλου Φιλίππου, και βοήθησαν να αποκατασταθεί η διαδρομή που ο προσκυνητής ακολουθούσε για να φτάσει σ’ αυτό. Τα ευρήματα στη Λαοδίκεια επιτρέπουν μια νέα ανάγνωση της πολεοδομικής εξέλιξης της πρωτοβυζαντινής πόλης και των μνημείων της, σε αναλογία με αυτή της Ιεράπολης και του μαρτυρίου του αποστόλου Φιλίππου, η οποία συνδέεται με τον επίσκοπο της πόλης Σάγαρι.The results of recent archaeological excavations and surveys in the cities of the valley of Lycus conducted by the Italian Archaeological Mission in Hierapolis and by the University of Pamukkale in Laodikeia are presented in the article. Investigations in Hierapolis revealed the extramural sanctuary built around the tomb of the Apostle Philip and helped to restore the pilgrim route. Findings in Laodikeia allow a new reading of the urban development of Byzantine city and its monuments, analogous to that of Hierapolis and St. Philip's tomb, which may be connected with the city’s bishop Sagaris

Δεν παρατίθεται περίληψη στα ελληνικά.Yorgos Tzedopoulos, National Confession and Symbolic Usage in Nineteenth- Century Greece: the Martyrs for the Nation ('Ethnomartyres) The article deals with the concept of martyrdom in nineteenth-century Greece. Within the context of Ottoman social realities, before the foundation of the Greek nation-state, martyrdom used to signify dying for the Christian faith. The actual martyrs were usually converts to Islam who repented, publicly declared their return to Christianity, and who subsequently suffered the death penalty as apostates. During the Greek war of independence (1821-1829), however, the concept of martyrdom underwent a major transformation brought about by the needs and realities of armed struggle. New martyrs emerged, martyrs for freedom, who did not die a death pro Christi but pro patria. Although the religious connotations of martyrdom did not vanish, this conceptual shift constitutes a paradigmatic change towards modernity. The article focuses on the genesis of this new paradigm of martyrdom in the Greek nation-state and its elaboration during the nineteenth century. Subsequently it proceeds to a brief analysis of the legends that emerged around four historical figures: Athanasios Diakos, whose death constitutes a link between the old paradigm of the martyr for the faith and the new one of the martyr for the nation, Rigas Velestinlis, the so-called «first martyr» (protomartys), Gregorios V, Patriarch of Constantinople, the «national martyr» (ethnomartys), and Kosmas the Aetolian, the «martyr and apostle of the nation» ; (ethnomartys kai ethnapostolos). Emphasis is put not only on the coining of new terms and the subsequent shifts in meaning, but also on the metaphorical use of martyrdom in nineteenth-century Greek historiography. In this process, elements originating in a religious conceptual context became embedded in the emerging secular national discourse and acquired a new meaning
