Turbo-Detected Unequal Protection MPEG-4 Audio Transceiver Using Convolutional Codes, Trellis Coded Modulation and Space-Time Trellis Coding

    No full text
A jointly optimised turbo transceiver capable of providing unequal error protection is proposed for employment in an MPEG-4 aided audio transceiver. The transceiver advocated consists of Space-Time Trellis Coding (STTC), Trellis Coded Modulation (TCM) and two different-rate Non-Systematic Convolutional codes (NSCs) used for unequal error protection. A benchmarker scheme combining STTC and a single-class protection NSC is used for comparison with the proposed scheme. The audio performance of the both schemes is evaluated when communicating over uncorrelated Rayleigh fading channels. It was found that the proposed unequal protection turbo-transceiver scheme requires about two dBs lower transmit power than the single-class turbo benchmarker scheme in the context of the MPEG-4 audio transceiver, when aiming for an effective throughput of 2 bits/symbol, while exhibiting a similar decoding complexity

A portable L-band voice transceiver for satellite communication

    Get PDF
A portable L-band voice transceiver was developed as a feasibility model and can provide a half-duplex voice link to another terminal via the L-band transponder on the Applications Technology Satellite, ATS-6. The narrow band FM transceiver utilizes commercial subsystems including a UHF transceiver, provides an RF output power of 20 watts, weights less than 25 lbs., is housed in a plastic briefcase, can be powered by an automobile electrical system, and has been successfully operated with ATS-6 on numerous occasions. Design considerations and operation of the transceiver are described, along with alignment and testing procedures, packaging and cost considerations, subsystem performance requirements and overall transceiver performance characteristics

Design document for shuttle task 501. Shuttle carrier aircraft transceiver console (SED 36115353-301)

The flight data for the space shuttle orbiter (SSO) is transmitted via S band to a transceiver in the shuttle carrier aircraft (SCA) for relay to the ground during the mated portion of the approach and landing test (ALT). The transceiver is mounted in the SCA transceiver console for shuttle task 501 testing. This document defines the requirements for the SCA transceiver console, the design description, test plan for the console prior to installating the spacecraft equipment in the console, and the test plan for acceptance tests

    Digital communication system

A digital communication system is reported for parallel operation of 16 or more transceiver units with the use of only four interconnecting wires. A remote synchronization circuit produces unit address control words sequentially in data frames of 16 words. Means are provided in each transceiver unit to decode calling signals and to transmit calling and data signals. The transceivers communicate with each other over one data line. The synchronization unit communicates the address control information to the transceiver units over an address line and further provides the timing information over a clock line. A reference voltage level or ground line completes the interconnecting four wire hookup

Joint Transceiver Design Algorithms for Multiuser MISO Relay Systems with Energy Harvesting

In this paper, we investigate a multiuser relay system with simultaneous wireless information and power transfer. Assuming that both base station (BS) and relay station (RS) are equipped with multiple antennas, this work studies the joint transceiver design problem for the BS beamforming vectors, the RS amplify-and-forward transformation matrix and the power splitting (PS) ratios at the single-antenna receivers. Firstly, an iterative algorithm based on alternating optimization (AO) and with guaranteed convergence is proposed to successively optimize the transceiver coefficients. Secondly, a novel design scheme based on switched relaying (SR) is proposed that can significantly reduce the computational complexity and overhead of the AO based designs while maintaining a similar performance. In the proposed SR scheme, the RS is equipped with a codebook of permutation matrices. For each permutation matrix, a latent transceiver is designed which consists of BS beamforming vectors, optimally scaled RS permutation matrix and receiver PS ratios. For the given CSI, the optimal transceiver with the lowest total power consumption is selected for transmission. We propose a concave-convex procedure based and subgradient-type iterative algorithms for the non-robust and robust latent transceiver designs. Simulation results are presented to validate the effectiveness of all the proposed algorithms
