How to Sample Behavior and Emotions of Traders: A Psychological Approach and an Empirical Example

    Get PDF
This paper describes an empirical approach based on psychological methodology, which assumes that individual behaviour must be studied within its natural environment. This approach is called experience sampling (ESM). To illustrate the potentials of employing ESM in the stock-trading domain, we report on observations from an explorative pilot study designed to shed light on the following issues: how outcomes of trades are perceived by traders; the reasons traders associate with good and bad trades; and how traders’ moods fluctuate over a trading day.

The traveling salesman problem, conformal invariance, and dense polymers

We propose that the statistics of the optimal tour in the planar random Euclidean traveling salesman problem is conformally invariant on large scales. This is exhibited in power-law behavior of the probabilities for the tour to zigzag repeatedly between two regions, and in subleading corrections to the length of the tour. The universality class should be the same as for dense polymers and minimal spanning trees. The conjectures for the length of the tour on a cylinder are tested numerically.Comment: 4 pages. v2: small revisions, improved argument about dimensions d>2. v3: Final version, with a correction to the form of the tour length in a domain, and a new referenc

Some Comments on the Stochastic Eulerian Tour Problem

The Stochastic Eulerian Tour Problem was introduced in 2008 as a stochastic variant of the well-known Eulerian Tour Problem. In a follow-up paper the same authors investigated some heuristics for solving the Stochastic Eulerian Tour Problem. After a thorough study of these two publications a few issues emerged. In this short research commentary we would like to discuss these issues.Comment: research commentary, 4 page

A Marketing Booklet for Muara Tours: a Way to Promote Its Study-tour Packages

When the writer did her internship at Muara Tours, the writer found that this company had two big problems which affected their business. Muara Tours had failed to advertise study tour packages because Muara Tours does not retain tools that explain the study tour packages. Because of that, the writer comes up with the best solution and the most proper promotional tool which is a marketing booklet. Having a marketing booklet will bring two advantages. First, it assists Muara Tours to advertise study tour packages effectively for the customers. Second, a marketing booklet can use this marketing booklet as a guide for the staff to explain the products. In making this marketing booklet, the writer also considers the potential customers, all aspect in this marketing booklet were simple and attractive. The writer believes that this marketing booklet will assist Muara Tour to lead cooperation between Muara Tour and the customers

    European tour-operators environmental risk management

    Get PDF
European tour-operators have become more involved in building long-term relationships between tourists, governments and local communities across the world. Having an enormous economic and social potential tour-operators have the capabilities to inspire a significant movement towards tourism sustainability. This research presents case studies of three global tour-operators (TUI, Thomas Cook and Kuoni) that are deeply engaged in ecological initiatives. Data concerning environmental protection, nature conservation and sustainable development in their source markets and tourism destinations have been integrated in order to reveal a common environmental risk assessment (ERA) framework. This study also identified a shift between Western and Eastern Europe tour operators in terms of environmental management initiatives

    Richmond Mural Tour

    Get PDF
In the past years Richmond has been growing in popularity in the world of street art. This popularity is due in part to the many projects that brought in artists from around the world to create beautiful artwork. There is so much art outside in Richmond as a result of these projects, but no great way to navigate the streets of the city in an efficient manner to see all of it. Richmond Mural Tour is a mobile cross-platform application that allows users to explore all of the amazing outdoor artwork around the city. This application is built on ionic 2, a cross-platform framework that allows developers to write code in one language, Javascript. The project can then be built into a native iOS, Android, and Windows phone applications. The app utilizes the Google Maps Javascript API to display a map of all the murals in Richmond. It then allows users to build and customize “Tours” or routes with any number of murals that have been selected. It also takes advantage of the Mapquest Web API to find the most optimal route between a list of waypoints. To serve all of this data to mobile phones this application uses a simple ASP.NET Core web API to transmit the data to devices via the internet.https://scholarscompass.vcu.edu/capstone/1159/thumbnail.jp

Etching-dependent reproducible memory switching in vertical SiO2 structures

Vertical structures of SiO2_{2} sandwiched between a top tungsten electrode and conducting non-metal substrate were fabricated by dry and wet etching methods. Both structures exhibit similar voltage-controlled memory behaviors, in which short voltage pulses (1 Ό\mus) can switch the devices between high- and low-impedance states. Through the comparison of current-voltage characteristics in structures made by different methods, filamentary conduction at the etched oxide edges is most consistent with the results, providing insights into similar behaviors in metal/SiO/metal systems. High ON/OFF ratios of over 104^{4} were demonstrated.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures + 2 suppl. figure
