    Get PDF
IS professionals face the daunting challenge of keeping up with the pace of technology while controlling the Total Cost of Ownership. Using the TCO model developed by the Gartner Group and the TCA model by the Tolley Group, many IS professionals have confirmed the overall cost of deploying applications within an enterprise. One possible alternative to controlling the TCO of an organization is thin client technology. A key feature in the recently release Windows 2000 Server is Microsoft’s Terminal Services which is an enhancement to Windows NT Server v4.0 Terminal Server Edition which was the server platform for launching thin client technologies

The aim of this study is to do the comparison of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) between Traditional Computing and Cloud Computing in higher institution. The higher instution that are choosen is University Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP). The problem addressed by this study is currently UniMAP Data Center use the Traditional Computing which are difficult to maintain, requires more data center space, large storage and server. This study help to compare and determine which computing technology is more cost effective. This study proposes solution using Cloud Computing as a lower cost option. There are five steps for creating a Total Cost of Ownership analysis which are project initiation, cost modelling, cost collection, evaluating and final report and ongoing refinement of the TCO Model. To calculate the TCO comparison, a tool to calculate the total cost of ownership (TCO) for both Traditional Computing and Cloud Computing will be done by using Microsoft Excel. This study compares the Traditional Computing and Cloud Computing over a period of 5 years

Data Centers are sub organizations within an IT organization and form an integral part of e-enabled services infrastructure. Their effectiveness is essential for effectiveness of overall IT organization leading to efficient and effective delivery of e-services. Data Center organizations aim for Organizational Effectiveness. Many factors and measures can contribute to Organizational Effectiveness of Data Centers. This paper presents some of the findings from a research study on “Select aspects of Organizational Effectiveness of Data Centers”. As an outcome of this study, amongst other measures, Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) was derived as a critical measure for effective Data Centers. Lower TCO leads to cost effective Data Centers, leading to overall effectiveness. In this paper, we briefly introduce various measures of Data Centers’ Organizational Effectiveness and present a detailed analysis of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) as a key measure of Data Centers’ Organizational Effectiveness. We also present various factors contributing to reduced TCO and a comparison between the factors contributing to TCO for Government and Corporate Data Centers

Recent technology advancements in the areas of compute, storage and networking, along with the increased demand for organizations to cut costs while remaining responsive to increasing service demands have led to the growth in the adoption of cloud computing services. Cloud services provide the promise of improved agility, resiliency, scalability and a lowered Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). This research introduces a framework for minimizing cost and maximizing resource utilization by using an Integer Linear Programming (ILP) approach to optimize the assignment of workloads to servers on Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud infrastructure. The model is based on the classical minimum-cost flow model, known as the assignment model.Comment: 2017 IEEE 10th International Conference on Cloud Computin

Digital preservation strategies for AV content

    No full text
The mass digitisation of analogue archive holdings plus the transition to tapeless production for new content means AV archives inevitably face the prospect of file-based archiving solutions using IT storage technology. But what is the long-term Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of these systems, which file formats should be used, what storage technologies make sense, what are the risks involved, what is the additional cost of managing these risks, and what new software approaches can be applied? These are all issues being explored by major broadcasters, national archives and technology specialists in the European PrestoPrime project and the UK AVATAR-m project

Half a year ago, in the editorial message of the magazine\u27s Vol. 6, Issue 1, I mentioned a discussion on the Eco-Design Regulation, held at a conference, and how that discussion catalysed some unanswered questions about the Regulation, such as the effectiveness of the total cost of ownership (TCO) which was taken as a measure for transformer specifications in the Regulation. Two key reasons for introduction of the Regulation were the reduction of greenhouse gas (CO2) and the reduction of energy consumption
