    Technological Singularity

Hypothetically, technological singularity is considered as irreversible changes to the mankind resulted from technological growth due to the invention of artificial super intelligence (AI). The major concern is that AI will come out of the control and, finally, humanity will be deprived of their position in the world

Is a Technological Singularity near also for bots in MMOGs?

Using the idea of the Technological Singularity this essay offers some reflections on the possible future of bots in Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOGs). The paper starts by briefly introducing the notion of Technological Singularity as the advent of a super-intelligent Artificial Intelligence that could threaten human existence. Bots are computer programs that automate repetitive and time consuming activities for the Internet user. In MMOGs, bots are often used to cheat and could have nefarious effects on the gameplay. Assuming that bots are rudimentary forms of Artificial Intelligence that also pose a threat to MMOGs and their players, the paper presents some evidence-based trends of the future evolution of bots and the implications of these for Virtual Worlds research

The Technological Singularity: An Ideological Critique

The Technological Singularity represents a confluence of techno-cultural narratives of progress in which the projected exponential growth of artificial intelligence and nanotechnology will usher in a moment of irrevocable change for the human race – a change that many claim is scant decades away. Although the concept saw its modern clarification by science fiction author Vernor Vinge, the Singularity sits astride both fictional and nonfictional narratives of the future. It is the aim of this study to explore the ideological discourses that emerge from texts on the Singularity and the unfathomable posthuman future it ushers in. Doing so reveals how the Singularity often functions as a projection of Late Capital, which achieves ominous posthuman agency in the form of the financial derivative. Yet the Singularity also occupies a Marxian space – its teleological metaphor mirrors that of classical Marxism and a historical terminus in Utopia. Ultimately the response of science fiction authors such as Charles Stross, Cory Doctorow, Ken Macloud, and Rudy Rucker, among others, is to treat the Singularity as an elastic metaphor subjected to ideological scrutiny rather than a dogmatic inevitability of exponential historiography. This interpretation frees the Singularity to be explored as a conglomerate of early 21st century hopes and anxieties. Far from being the “genre-killer” of science fiction, the Singularity represents a new, heightened set of concerns and methodologies for engaging the late capitalist/postmodern condition

Technological Singularity: Preparing for an Unpredictable Future

In the world of technology, the concept of singularity has gained increasing attention in recent years. Singularity refers to a hypothetical point in time when the capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) and other technologies surpass human intelligence, leading to an unpredictable and exponential growth of technological progress. While this may seem like science fiction, the rapid advancement of technology in recent years has made singularity a genuine possibility.   &nbsp

    Technological singularity and transhumanism

The technological innovations of the Fourth Industrial Revolution have facilitated the formulation of strategies to transcend human limitations; strategies that are widely supported by the transhumanist philosophy. The purpose of this article is to explain the relationship between ‘transhumanism’ and ‘technological singularity’, to which end the Fourth Industrial Revolution and transhumanism are also briefly covered. Subsequently, the three main models of technological singularity are evaluated and a definition of this futuristic concept is offered. Finally, the author provides a reflection on the relationship between technological singularity and the transhumanist philosophy, and concludes that they are not synonymous, but rather that the former is an eventuality that will allow the latter

Transhumanism Between Human Enhancement and Technological Innovation

Transhumanism introduces from its very beginning a paradigm shift about concepts like human nature, progress and human future. An overview of its ideology reveals a strong belief in the idea of human enhancement through technologically means. The theory of technological singularity, which is more or less a radicalisation of the transhumanist discourse, foresees a radical evolutionary change through artificial intelligence. The boundaries between intelligent machines and human beings will be blurred. The consequence is the upcoming of a post-biological and posthuman future when intelligent technology becomes autonomous and constantly self-improving. Considering these predictions, I will investigate here the way in which the idea of human enhancement modifies our understanding of technological innovation. I will argue that such change goes in at least two directions. On the one hand, innovation is seen as something that will inevitably lead towards intelligent machines and human enhancement. On the other hand, there is a direction such as “Singularity University,” where innovation is called to pragmatically solving human challenges. Yet there is a unifying spirit which holds together the two directions and I think it is the same transhumanist idea
