Compressive Strength of Concrete Cylinders by Different Preparation Methods: Sulphur, Neoprene Pads and Grinding
The purpose of this evaluation is to compare the effects of four types of cylinder preparation methods prior to compressive strength testing in accordance to ASTM C 39
Fiber glass reinforced structural materials for aerospace application
Evaluation of fiber glass reinforced plastic materials concludes that fiber glass construction is lighter than aluminum alloy construction. Low thermal conductivity and strength makes the fiber glass material useful in cryogenic tank supports
Crogenic alloy screening Interim report
Evaluation of mechanical properties and fracture strength of aluminum alloys and stainless stee
Style Transfer in Text: Exploration and Evaluation
Style transfer is an important problem in natural language processing (NLP).
However, the progress in language style transfer is lagged behind other
domains, such as computer vision, mainly because of the lack of parallel data
and principle evaluation metrics. In this paper, we propose to learn style
transfer with non-parallel data. We explore two models to achieve this goal,
and the key idea behind the proposed models is to learn separate content
representations and style representations using adversarial networks. We also
propose novel evaluation metrics which measure two aspects of style transfer:
transfer strength and content preservation. We access our models and the
evaluation metrics on two tasks: paper-news title transfer, and
positive-negative review transfer. Results show that the proposed content
preservation metric is highly correlate to human judgments, and the proposed
models are able to generate sentences with higher style transfer strength and
similar content preservation score comparing to auto-encoder.Comment: To appear in AAAI-1
Lightweight magnesium-lithium alloys show promise
Evaluation tests show that magnesium-lithium alloys are lighter and more ductile than other magnesium alloys. They are being used for packaging, housings, containers, where light weight is more important than strength
Fatigue of boron-aluminum composites bonds and joints
Study examines effects of boron filament diameter on bonds and joints in boron-aluminum composite. Data include static strength, fatigue, and dynamic moduli of elasticity. Manson-Coffin analyses and metallurgical and fracture surface evaluation were also performed
Ultrasonic evaluation of the strength of unidirectional graphite-polyimide composites
An acoustic-ultrasonic method is described that was successful in ranking unidirectional graphite-polyimide composite specimens according to variations in interlaminar shear strength. Using this method, a quantity termed the stress wave factor was determined. It was found that this factor increases directly with interlaminar shear strength. The key variables in this investigation were composite density, fiber weight fraction, and void content. The stress wave factor and other ultrasonic factors that were studied were found to provide a powerful means for nondestructive evaluation of mechanical strength properties
Evaluation of the Flexural Strength, Sorption, Rheological and Thermal Properties of Corncob Plastic Composites
Plastic composites were made from corncobs and high density polyethylene (HDPE) by extrusion and evaluated. The composites were manufactured using two different screened corncob particle size fractions
Query-based extracting: how to support the answer?
Human-made query-based summaries commonly contain information not explicitly asked for. They answer the user query, but also provide supporting information. In order to find this information in the source text, a graph is used to model the strength and type of relations between sentences of the query and document cluster, based on various features. The resulting extracts rank second in overall readability in the DUC 2006 evaluation. Employment of better question answering methods is the key to improve also content-based evaluation results
