Vacuum insulation panels (VIP) in refrigerator room, freezing room & fridge

    Get PDF
With respect to the continuous trend of reduction in energy consumption vacuum insulation panels (VIP) find an increasing application in freezing and cold storage rooms of supermarkets as well as in refrigerators. This implies the investigation of VIP behaviour subject to conditions different from those encountered in building application. The present contribution deals with the evolution of the internal pressure of VIPs subjected to low and freezing temperature for a period of 5 years confirming the prediction made earlier on its linear increase 0.6 mbar/year in the refrigerator room and 0.10 to 0.26 mbar/year in freezer room depending on the VIP type. This is a clear indication that the aging process decelerates compared to the standard test condition of VIP due to the low temperature condition.Further, a refrigerator with different VIP configuration was analysed with respect to their energy performance by means of thermal bridge analysis and possibilities to reduce them

Radiation shielding calculations for MuCool Test Area at Fermilab

The MuCool Test Area (MTA) is an intense primary beam facility derived directly from the Fermilab Linac to test heat deposition and other technical concerns associated with the liquid hydrogen targets being developed for cooling intense muon beams. In this shielding study the results of Monte Carlo radiation shielding calculations performed using the MARS14 code for the MuCool Test Area and including the downstream portion of the target hall and berm around it, access pit, service building, and parking lot are presented and discussed within the context of the proposed MTA experimental configuration.Comment: 17 pages, 13 figure

PLASMD BEARING A CDNA COPY OF THE GENOME OF BOVINE VIRAL DIARRHEA VIRUS, CHIMERIC DERIVATIVES THEREOF, AND METHOD OF PRODUCING AN INFECTIOUS BOVINE WRAL DARRHEAVIRUS USING SAD PLASMID

A plasmid bearing a cDNA copy of the genome of bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV), chimeric derivatives of the plasmid and a method of producing an infectious bovine viral diarrhea virus using the plasmid are disclosed. The invention relates to a plasmid DNA molecule that replicates easily in E. coli and contains a sufficient portion of the genome of BVDV, cloned as cDNA, to be a suitable template to produce RNA in vitro which, upon transfection into bovine cells, gives rise to infectious BVDV. The BVDV created by the process of the invention can be engineered for use as a vector in many advantageous applications

The Legacy of Charles Henry Huber, Class of 1892: A Half Century of Service to Gettysburg College

In the common room of Huber Hall, there hangs high on the wall a dingy looking portrait of an older gentleman, dressed in a dark suit with round-framed glasses and graying hair. Beneath this portrait framed in faded gold is a small, tarnished, black plaque that gives a name to this curious looking man and briefly describes some of his accomplishments. From this portrait located above a small television, the Reverend Charles Henry Huber looks out over what used to be the lobby of the Gettysburg Academy, which was housed in a building where he spent much of his professional life; a building that would one day take on his name. Looking out into the common room of what has been transformed into a first year residence hall, “Huber” can see many of the changes that have come to his building and the college where he spent much of his life. Where a grand piano once stood toward the end of his time at the Academy, two rarely used foosball tables now sit; where a brick fireplace once housed its fair share of crackling fires on a snowy day, the metal doors to an elevator now open and close on a daily basis. Students who once crowded around the fireplace to listen to a radio broadcast now crowd around a television to watch new episodes of Grey’s Anatomy and other popular T.V. shows. From his retirement in 1940 to his death in 1951, and for many years after, Huber\u27s portrait has seen many changes to both Huber all and the students who now live there from his portrait on the wall. The story of his half century of service to the college remains the same, although there are few people who could tell even a portion of it today. Birkner \u2772 Hidden in Plain Sight is a collection of student papers on objects that are hidden in plain sight around the Gettysburg College campus. Topics range from the Glatfelter Hall gargoyles to the statue of Eisenhower and from historical markers to athletic accomplishments. Isolation and identification of lactic acid bacteria from abalone (Haliotis asinina) as a potential candidate of probiotic

    Get PDF

Characterization of Fresh Moringa oleifera Beverage

To determine the nutritional composition of fresh Moringa leaf beverage (50% moringa extract, 38% pineapple juice and 12% carrot extract) and assess the keeping quality. Proximate analysis, chemical analysis and shelf stability studies under three different storage conditions of temperature were conducted on the beverage. Fresh Moringa oleifera beverage recorded 2.9g/100ml of protein, 1.02mg of iron and 159.14mg/100ml of vitamins C. After 8weeks of storage 78% of vitamins C was still retained even under the most severe storage condition (sunlight). There was no microbial growth under all the conditions of storage, and the product was still acceptable. Fresh Moringa oleifera beverage is therefore an excellent means of distributing nutrients to the malnourished and other consumers.
