Design and qualification of the SEU/TD Radiation Monitor chip
This report describes the design, fabrication, and testing of the Single-Event Upset/Total Dose (SEU/TD) Radiation Monitor chip. The Radiation Monitor is scheduled to fly on the Mid-Course Space Experiment Satellite (MSX). The Radiation Monitor chip consists of a custom-designed 4-bit SRAM for heavy ion detection and three MOSFET's for monitoring total dose. In addition the Radiation Monitor chip was tested along with three diagnostic chips: the processor monitor and the reliability and fault chips. These chips revealed the quality of the CMOS fabrication process. The SEU/TD Radiation Monitor chip had an initial functional yield of 94.6 percent. Rutenij, rodij, iridij, osmij, paladij i platina nazivaju se platinskim metalima, a zajedno sa srebrom i zlatom čine skupinu plemenitih metala. Iako se ovi metali odlikuju kemijskom inertnošću, oni sami i njihovi spojevi nalaze razne primjene, pogotovo u nanokemiji budući da su se posljednjeg desetljeća snažno razvili analitički alati. Prema gustoći, ti se metali dijele na lake platinske metale (rutenij, rodij i paladij) čija gustoća iznosi oko 12 g cm-3 te teške (osmij, iridij i platina) čija je gustoća veća od 21 g cm-3. U prirodi se nalaze u malim koncentracijama i često u slitinama što predstavlja problem prilikom izolacije. Plemeniti metali mogu se nalaziti u velikom broju oksidacijskih stanja, čak i negativnim poput platine i zlata. Za sada je pronađen spoj u kojem je metal u oksidacijskom stanju +VIII, ali postoje teorijski dokazi o postojanju spoja s metalom u oksidacijskom stanju stanju +IX. Također, otkriveni su i spojevi s metal-metal vezama, u čemu prednjače zlato i platina. Jedno od najzanimljivijih otkrića jest nastajanje kompleksnog spoja zlata(II) s atomima ksenona. Advances in technology of soluble cores for die castings
A number of technologies is developed that substitute simple metal cores in the high-pressure casting technology. Soluble cores, namely on the salt basis, represent the highest prospect. The contribution gives the results of the production of salt cores by high-pressure squeezing and shooting with using a binder. Special attention is paid to the shape of NaCl salt crystals with additives and the influence on strength properties of cores. A technology of bonding the salt cores is developing. Salinity of circulating water is studied and it is checked with the aid of electrical conductance.Web of Science152342
Application of Phytoremediation in Restoring Sustainable Development to the Environment: Economic and Soil Conditions
The quality of soils as found in the Voivodeship of Łódź was analyzed from the point of view of potential application of the phytoremediation method, taking into account subdivision by heavy metals found in the soils as well as their origins and properties. Grades of soil purity are presented and border values of heavy metal content were identified.Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie priorytetowych zagadnień i powiązań, dotyczących ekonomicznych i glebowych uwarunkowań zastosowania technologii fitoremediacji w przywracaniu zrównoważonego rozwoju środowiska. Analizie poddano zasadność stosowania fitoremediacji w przywracaniu zrównoważonego środowiska jako metody alternatywnej do kosztownej rekultywacji terenów w celu usuwania zanieczyszczeń, które jest niewykonalne do przeprowadzenia na dużych areałach. Wykazano opłacalność stosowania fitoremediacji w odzyskiwaniu pierwiastków śladowych z gleby w procesie phytominingu. Przeanalizowano jakość gleb występujących w województwie łódzkim w aspekcie potencjalnego zastosowania metody fitoremediacji z uwzględnieniem podziału metali ciężkich zawartych w glebach uwzględniający ich pochodzenie oraz właściwości. Composite wall concept for high temperature turbine shrouds: Heat transfer analysis
A heat transfer analysis was made of a composite wall shroud consisting of a ceramic thermal barrier layer bonded to a porous metal layer which, in turn, is bonded to a metal base. The porous metal layer serves to mitigate the strain differences between the ceramic and the metal base. Various combinations of ceramic and porous metal layer thicknesses and of porous metal densities and thermal conductivities were investigated to determine the layer thicknesses required to maintain a limiting temperature in the porous metal layer. Galaxy Collisions, Gas Stripping and Star Formation in the Evolution of Galaxies
A review of gravitational and hydrodynamical processes during formation of
clusters and evolution of galaxies is given. Early, at the advent of N-body
computer simulations, the importance of tidal fields in galaxy encounters has
been recognized. Orbits are crowded due to tides along spiral arms, where the
star formation is enhanced. Low relative velocity encounters lead to galaxy
mergers. The central dominating galaxies in future clusters form before the
clusters in a merging process in galaxy groups. Galaxy clusters are composed in
a hierarchical scenario due to relaxation processes between galaxies and galaxy
groups. As soon as the overall cluster gravitational potential is built, high
speed galaxy versus galaxy encounters start to play a role. These harassment
events gradually thicken and shorten spiral galaxy disks leading to the
formation of S0 galaxies and ellipticals. Another aspect of the high speed
motion in the hot and diluted Intracluster Medium (ICM) is the ram pressure
exerted on the Interstellar Matter (ISM) leading to stripping of the ISM from
parent spirals. The combinations of tides and ram pressure stripping
efficiently removes the gas from spirals, quenching the star formation in
galactic disks, while triggering it in the tidal arms and at the leading edge
of gaseous disk. Gas stripping from disks transports the metals to the ICM. In
some cases, the gas extracted from the galactic disks becomes self-gravitating
