    Autonomous power system: Integrated scheduling

    Get PDF
The Autonomous Power System (APS) project at NASA Lewis Research Center is designed to demonstrate the abilities of integrated intelligent diagnosis, control and scheduling techniques to space power distribution hardware. The project consists of three elements: the Autonomous Power Expert System (APEX) for fault diagnosis, isolation, and recovery (FDIR), the Autonomous Intelligent Power Scheduler (AIPS) to determine system configuration, and power hardware (Brassboard) to simulate a space-based power system. Faults can be introduced into the Brassboard and in turn, be diagnosed and corrected by APEX and AIPS. The Autonomous Intelligent Power Scheduler controls the execution of loads attached to the Brassboard. Each load must be executed in a manner that efficiently utilizes available power and satisfies all load, resource, and temporal constraints. In the case of a fault situation on the Brassboard, AIPS dynamically modifies the existing schedule in order to resume efficient operation conditions. A database is kept of the power demand, temporal modifiers, priority of each load, and the power level of each source. AIPS uses a set of heuristic rules to assign start times and resources to each load based on load and resource constraints. A simple improvement engine based upon these heuristics is also available to improve the schedule efficiency. This paper describes the operation of the Autonomous Intelligent Power Scheduler as a single entity, as well as its integration with APEX and the Brassboard. Future plans are discussed for the growth of the Autonomous Intelligent Power Scheduler

User interface issues in supporting human-computer integrated scheduling

Explored here is the user interface problems encountered with the Operations Missions Planner (OMP) project at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). OMP uses a unique iterative approach to planning that places additional requirements on the user interface, particularly to support system development and maintenance. These requirements are necessary to support the concepts of heuristically controlled search, in-progress assessment, and iterative refinement of the schedule. The techniques used to address the OMP interface needs are given

Development of an Integrated Scheduling System Prototype at the Department of Electrical Engineering Education, Makassar State University

    Get PDF
This study aims to produce a prototype of an integrated scheduling system that manages all activities related to scheduling within the Department of Electrical Engineering Education, Makassar State University. An integrated scheduling information system was developed using the Research and Development (R&D) research method by collecting data from observation and interviews. The prototype development model is carried out in various integrated stages so that a web-based scheduling system design is obtained with the aim of providing optimal services to lecturers and students so that lecture activities can run well and effectively.

Effective algorithms for integrated scheduling of handling equipment at automated container terminals

    Get PDF
In this paper we consider the problem of integrated scheduling of various types of handling equipment at an automated container terminal, where the objective is to minimize the makespan of the schedule. We present a Branch & Bound algorithm that uses various combinatorial lower bounds. Computational experiments show that this algorithm is able to produce optimal or near optimal schedules for instances of practical size in a reasonable time. We also develop a Beam Search heuristic that can be used to tackle very large problem instances. Our experiments show that for such instances the heuristic obtains close to optimal solutions in a reasonable time.AGV's;Container terminal;beam search;branch & bound;scheduling

Context Aware Instant Messenger with Integrated Scheduling Planner

The purpose of this paper is to do a research on context awareness concept in instant messaging applications. The widely used instant messaging systems usually incorporate the same context awareness function that displays the current status of other users. There are many prototypes of context aware instant messenger program that already being developed and being tested in order to ensure the applications are able to display the users' status in a more reliable and accurate manner. However, the availability indicators provided by instant messenger only useful for users who are planning to have communication with other users. This kind of context aware does not help users to use the instant messaging systems for another purpose such as to schedule an appointment with one of their contact list. By realizing this issue, the design of a Context-Aware Instant Messenger with Integrated Scheduling Planner system is proposed to cater the problems. The solution application is designed for all computer users especially for the staffs in organizations and universities students which will enable them to do any appointment through instant messaging system. Throughout this document, the existing prototype of instant messaging systems is discussed regarding their context awareness concept and at the same time is compared to identifY their strong and weaknesses. From the finding of the research, new project plan is discussed in order to develop a new brand prototype of instant messaging application starting from planning, analysis, design, prototype development until prototype system testing. Prototyping methodology is chosen for the development of this application because of the time constraint. There are three prototypes with different level of functionality has been produced by this project to exhibit the scheduling planner function. Based on the research done, the Context-Aware Instant Messenger with Integrated Scheduling Planner system was found to transcend current instant messaging products by having new feature which enable the users to schedule any event with their contact list
