Analyzing Brake Force Among Different Demographics

    Get PDF
Driving is a very important activity that allows people to maintain their independence. The purpose of this study was to investigate brake force concerning different demographics in hopes to increase safety and confidence on the road. Data for this study was collected on one hundred thirty-two subjects by using a Brake and Time Reaction Tester. There was a significant difference found in brake force averages between biological sex. There was no significant difference found in brake force averages among different age groups nor in the number of days driven per week. This study suggests that there is variability in an individual’s performance of brake force. However, when taking the averages of each individual’s brake forces, most fall within a couple of standard deviations from the mean

Sequential Comparisons of Generalized Lorenz Curves for Different Demographics

    Get PDF
Jenkins and Lambert (1993) and Chambaz and Maurin (1998) proposed extensions of the sequential generalized Lorenz dominance (SGL) criterion that was proposed by Atkinson and Bourguignon (1987): the extended version of SGL made it possible to compare distributions for different demographics. However, the tests to check the extended SGL “are not expressible in terms of generalized Lorenz curves” (Lambert 2001, p.79). In this paper, we show that the dominance condition can be easily checked by sequential comparisons of a modified version of the generalized Lorenz curve. We apply this procedure by comparing the income distributions of Italian households using data obtained from the Survey on Household Income and Wealth (SHIW, Bank of Italy) from 2006 and 2012

Acute kidney injury on chronic kidney disease: From congestive heart failure to light chain deposition disease and cast nephropathy in multiple myeloma

    Get PDF
Acute on chronic renal failure is a common but notably broad diagnosis. We present a 64-year-old man with a history of diastolic heart failure and chronic kidney disease, admitted for an elevated creatinine. History and physical examination were suggestive of decompensated heart failure; however, the careful interpretation of urinalysis rendered the diagnosis of multiple myeloma. On renal biopsy, the patient was found to have light chain deposition disease with cast nephropathy. Combination lesions in multiple myeloma are rare and require diligent histopathology for detection, including light microscopy, immunofluorescence and electron microscopy. These patients portray different demographics, renal manifestations, oncologic characteristics and outcomes, and hence, further studies isolating these combined lesions are warranted

    Cohesion and Factors of Sport

    Get PDF
This research was done to see how player demographics and other factors of sport effect team cohesion of a soccer program at a Division III level. In this study different demographics such as year in college, transfer status, and how many years you have been playing were explored to see if they impacted the amount of cohesion on the team. Additionally, other factors of sport such as gender, coaching styles, effective student leaders, the wins and goals met as a team, and how athletes interact off the field were also taken into consideration and compared to the amount of cohesion that exist on the team. It was found that nine different factors of sport play a significant role in the amount of cohesion that exist, but no player demographics played a significant role. This research can help inform current or upcoming coaches, captains/leaders, and athletic departments on different factors that help and discourage the amount of cohesion that exist on a team and how it effects factors of a team
