On Algorithms Based on Joint Estimation of Currents and Contrast in Microwave Tomography
This paper deals with improvements to the contrast source inversion method
which is widely used in microwave tomography. First, the method is reviewed and
weaknesses of both the criterion form and the optimization strategy are
underlined. Then, two new algorithms are proposed. Both of them are based on
the same criterion, similar but more robust than the one used in contrast
source inversion. The first technique keeps the main characteristics of the
contrast source inversion optimization scheme but is based on a better
exploitation of the conjugate gradient algorithm. The second technique is based
on a preconditioned conjugate gradient algorithm and performs simultaneous
updates of sets of unknowns that are normally processed sequentially. Both
techniques are shown to be more efficient than original contrast source
inversion.Comment: 12 pages, 12 figures, 5 table
Discretization Error Analysis in the Contrast Source Inversion Algorithm
This paper describes the use of the contrast source inversion method combined with the finite element method for the numerical solution of 3-D microwave inversion problems. In particular, this work is focused on the discretization of the involved physical vector quantities, analyzing the impact of the chosen discretization on the solution process with the goal of optimizing the implemented algorithm in terms of accuracy, memory requirements and computational cost
Reconstruction of Planar Multilayered Structures using Multiplicative-Regularized Contrast Source Inversion
There is an increasing interest to have an access to hidden objects without making any destructive action. Such non-destructive method is able to give a picture of the inner part of the structure by measuring some external entities. The problem of reconstructing planar multilayered structures based on given scattering data is an inverse problem. Inverse problems are ill-posed, beside matrix inversion tools, a regularization procedure must be applied additionally. Multiplicative regularization was considered as an appropriate penalty method to solve this problem. The Gauss-Newton inversion method as an optimization procedure was used to find the permittivity values, which minimized some cost functions. Several dielectric layers with different thickness and profiles were observed. Some layers needed more discretization elements and more iteration steps to give the correct profiles.
