The Capabilities of the upgraded MIPP experiment with respect to Hypernuclear physics
We describe the state of analysis of the MIPP experiment, its plans to
upgrade the experiment and the impact such an upgraded experiment will have on
hypernuclear physics
Status of Neutrino Factory R&D within the Muon Collaboration
We describe the current status of the research within the Muon Collaboration
towards realizing a Neutrino Factory. We describe briefly the physics
motivation behind the neutrino factory approach to studying neutrino
oscillations and the longer term goal of building the Muon Collider. The
benefits of a step by step staged approach of building a proton driver,
collecting and cooling muons followed by the acceleration and storage of cooled
muons are emphasized. Several usages of cooled muons open up at each new stage
in such an approach and new physics opportunites are realized at the completion
of each stage.Comment: 19 pages, 20 figures. To Appear in the Proceedings of the

Constitutive Models Based on Compressible Plastic Flows
The need for describing materials under time or cycle dependent loading conditions has been emphasized in recent years by several investigators. In response to the need, various constitutive models describing the nonlinear behavior of materials under creep, fatigue, or other complex loading conditions were developed. The developed models for describing the fully dense (non-porous) materials were mostly based on uncoupled plasticity theory. The improved characterization of materials provides a better understanding of the structual response under complex loading conditions. The pesent studies demonstrate that the rate or time dependency of the response of a porous aggregate can be incorporated into the nonlinear constitutive behavior of a porous solid by appropriately modeling the incompressible matrix behavior. It is also sown that the yield function which wads determined by a continuum mechanics approach must be verified by appropriate experiments on void containing sintered materials in order to obtain meaningful numbers for the constants that appear in the yield function
Playing a true Parrondo's game with a three state coin on a quantum walk
Playing a Parrondo's game with a qutrit is the subject of this paper. We show
that a true quantum Parrondo's game can be played with a 3 state coin(qutrit)
in a 1D quantum walk in contrast to the fact that playing a true Parrondo's
game with a 2 state coin(qubit) in 1D quantum walk fails in the asymptotic
limits.Comment: 7 pages, 9 figures, accepted for publication in EPL (Euro Physics
