    The Lord's Prayer has a prominent place in the lives and liturgies of Christian faith communities. The petition for forgiveness in the prayer is accompanied by what seems to be a condition: ā€œForgive us our sins as we forgive those who sinned against usā€. This ā€œconditionā€ can be a stumbling block for victims of violence perpetrated by people ā€œwho sinned againstā€ them. The aim of the article is to provide a liberating perspective on the Lord's Prayer so that it can contribute to the healing of women who have been sexually violated. Firstly, the concept ā€œforgivenessā€ in the Old and New Testament is investigated. This leads to an investigation of the ethics of forgiveness in light of Levinas' criticism of the Christian ethics of forgiveness. Narrative insights point to the possibility of reinterpreting the ā€œusā€ in ā€œforgive us our sinsā€. This liberates ā€œvictimsā€ of violence to feel included in God's grace and forgiveness, even though they may find it difficult or impossible to forgive the perpetrator.     Impact of an electrode-diaphragm gap on diffusive hydrogen crossover in alkaline water electrolysis

    Hydrogen crossover limits the load range of alkaline water electrolyzers, hindering their integration with renewable energy. This study examines the impact of the electrode-diaphragm gap on crossover, focusing on diffusive transport. Both finite-gap and zero-gap designs employing the state-of-the-art Zirfon UTP Perl 500 and UTP 220 diaphragms were investigated at room temperature and with a 12 wt% KOH electrolyte. Experimental results reveal a relatively high crossover for a zero-gap configuration, which corresponds to supersaturation levels at the diaphragm-electrolyte interface of 8ā€“80, with significant fluctuations over time and between experiments due to an imperfect zero-gap design. In contrast, a finite-gap (500 Ī¼m) has a significantly smaller crossover, corresponding to supersaturation levels of 2ā€“4. Introducing a cathode gap strongly decreases crossover, unlike an anode gap. Our results suggest that adding a small cathode-gap can significantly decrease gas impurity, potentially increase the operating range of alkaline electrolyzers, while maintaining good efficiency.</p

    Patientsā€™ experiences of safety in a hospital learning department:A qualitative study

    Objectives: This study aimed to explore experiences of the safety of hospital-admitted patients in learning departments where students and nurses provide care together. Methods: This general qualitative explorative study was conducted in a University Medical Center in the Netherlands. Patients admitted to a learning department were purposefully sampled. Semi-structured individual interviews were conducted. Data was collected between February and April 2021. Thematic analysis was used to analyse the data. Results: Five main themes emerged after interviewing patients (n = 13): having accountable nurses, trust through autonomy and support, taking time to communicate, a safe learning environment with backup, and being unaware of being in a learning department. All patients indicated that they feel safe in a learning department. Conclusion: Patients felt safe being admitted to a learning department and experienced no differences in feeling safe between nurses and students. Patients can feel safer in the department if they are informed in advance that they have been admitted to a learning department, so they are aware of the presence of students

    Hyphal morphology, molecular genetics and phylogenetic relationships among commensal and pathogenic vulvovaginal isolates of Candida albicans

    Vaginal candidiasis is a common disorder in women of childbearing age, caused primarily by Candida albicans. Since C. albicans is a commensal fungus of the vaginal mucosa, a long-standing question is how the fungus switches from being a harmless commensal to a virulent pathogen. Clinical studies and murine vaginitis models suggest that host inflammatory processes drive the onset of symptomatic infection. In previous work with fresh clinical samples, we found that the pro-inflammatory cell wall polysaccharide Ī²-glucan is largely masked from immune recognition during vulvovaginal infection. Enhanced Ī²-glucan availability was only found in hyphae from symptomatic patients with strong neutrophil infiltration. There was high variability in levels of Ī²-glucan exposure and hyphal morphology among colonizing and infection-associated isolates, and we reasoned that this could be explained by fungal-intrinsic factors and/or host-associated traits. We assayed several aspects of C. albicans isolated from symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals to determine any associations between fungal-intrinsic traits and virulence: MLST analysis, sequencing of the gene encoding the candidalysin toxin, and propensity to form hyphal cells. Preliminary results suggest that none of these indicators correlates with isolates causing symptomatic infection, indicating that host-intrinsic mechanisms may play the most important role in the occurrence of symptomatic infections

    The development of research supervisorsā€™ pedagogical content knowledge in a lesson study project

    In this study, we aimed to identify how the learning activities elicited in a lesson study project contributed to self-perceived change in supervisorsā€™ pedagogical content knowledge (PCK). Lesson study is a method which combines both professional and educational development. During a lesson study project, teachers collaborate in a team and develop, teach, evaluate, and redesign a research lesson. During the 4-month lesson study project described here, four supervisors designed a protocol for research supervision meetings aimed at enhancing undergraduate studentsā€™ learning. During the project, they experimented with open questioning and giving positive feedback instead of giving instruction and explanations. A mixed-methods design was used in this study. Data on the supervisorsā€™ learning activities and PCK were gathered using learner reports, video-recordings of meetings, and exit interviews. The analyses of these data showed that the lesson study project contributed to the development of the supervisorsā€™ PCK on instructional strategies and student understanding. The learning activity that contributed most to these changes was reflecting on their own practice and that of their students

    Towards an International Classification for Patient Safety: key concepts and terms

    Background. Understanding the patient safety literature has been compromised by the inconsistent use of language. Objectives. To identify key concepts of relevance to the International Patient Safety Classification (ICPS) proposed by the World Alliance For Patient Safety of the World Health Organization (WHO), and agree on definitions and preferred terms. Methods. Six principles were agreed uponā€”that the concepts and terms should: be applicable across the full spectrum of healthcare; be consistent with concepts from other WHO Classifications; have meanings as close as possible to those in colloquial use; convey the appropriate meanings with respect to patient safety; be brief and clear, without unnecessary or redundant qualifiers; be fit-for-purpose for the ICPS. Results. Definitions and preferred terms were agreed for 48 concepts of relevance to the ICPS; these were described and the relationships between them and the ICPS were outlined. Conclusions. The consistent use of key concepts, definitions and preferred terms should pave the way for better understanding, for comparisons between facilities and jurisdictions, and for trends to be tracked over time. Changes and improvements, translation into other languages and alignment with other sets of patient safety definitions will be necessary. This work represents the start of an ongoing process of progressively improving a common international understanding of terms and concepts relevant to patient safety.
