Design study of the UELV-10/5-15S accelerating structure

The UELV-10/5-15S electron linear accelerator is intended for use in the sterilization applications. Electron energy can be continuously variable from 5 to 10 MeV by changing the accelerated beam current. The 2 m long accelerating structure includes a standing wave buncher, a travelling wave accelerating part and an on-axis resonant RF load. Beam dynamics calculations have been made taking into account space charge forces. Optimization of the buncher parameters permitted to achieve capture efficiencies up to 75% with no external focussing. It is expected that beam powers from 13 kW to 15 kW will be obtained in the 5 to 10 MeV energy range

Investigation of system for external injection of H⁻ ion beam on cyclotrons

The article presents results of experimental studies carried out at an installation (“SVITS”) simulating a system for external injection of H⁻ions with the beam current of up to 2 mA and energy up to 30 keV for cyclotrons. The beam characteristics (current, current density distribution over cross-section, phase diagrams) as well as gas pressure were measured in three points along the beam axis. The influence of the compensation and de-compensation of the beam space charge on the beam dynamics in the plasma produced under beam transportation was studied.Приводяться результати експериментальних досліджень, виконаних на установці, що моделює систему зовнішньої інжекції Н⁻ зі струмом пучка до 2 мА й енергією до 30 кеВ для циклотрону. Вимір характеристик пучка (струму, розподілу густини струму по перетині, фазових діаграм), а також тиску газу провадиться в трьох точках уздовж осі пучка. Відзначено вплив на динаміку пучка в інжекторі ефекту компенсації власного просторового заряду пучка іонами плазми, що напрацьовується при русі пучка в залишковому газі.Приводятся результаты экспериментальных исследований, выполненных на установке, моделирующей систему внешней инжекции Н⁻ с током пучка до 2 мА и энергией до 30 кэВ для циклотрона. Измерение характеристик пучка (тока, распределения плотности тока по сечению, фазовых диаграмм), а также давления газа производится в трех точках вдоль оси пучка. Отмечено влияние на динамику пучка в инжекторе эффекта компенсации собственного пространственного заряда пучка ионами плазмы, нарабатываемой при движении пучка в остаточном газе

Cephalopods of the Benguela Current off Namibia: new additions and considerations on the genus Lycoteuthis

The present study contributes new information on the cephalopods off Namibia, contains the first record of Ornithoteuthis volatilis (Sasaki, 1915) in the Atlantic, and adds records of six species in the Benguela Current and three species in Namibian waters. The presence of certain species seldom encountered in the Benguela Current has been confirmed. A compilation of the cephalopod fauna off Namibia had also been included, listing 65 species. Additional morphological data on Stoloteuthis leucoptera, Lycoteuthis lorigera, Architeuthis sp., Pholidoteuthis boschmai, Ornithoteuthis volatilis, Eledone nigra, and Graneledone sp. have been provided. The status of the genus Lycoteuthis has been reviewed in the light of the first collection of Lycoteuthis lorigera (Steenstrup, 1875) males in the Atlantic, and Lycoteuthis diadema (Chun, 1900) has been considered to be a synonym for Lycoteuthis loriger
