Channel capacity study of underwater wireless optical communications links based on Monte Carlo simulation
Channel capacity of ocean water is limited by propagation distance and optical properties.
Previous studies on this problem are based on water-tank experiments with different amounts
of Maalox antacid. However, propagation distance is limited by the experimental set-up and
the optical properties are different from ocean water. Therefore, the experiment result is not
accurate for the physical design of underwater wireless communications links. This letter
developed a Monte Carlo model to study channel capacity of underwater optical
communications. Moreover, this model can flexibly configure various parameters of
transmitter, receiver and channel, and is suitable for physical underwater optical
communications links design
