KINEMATICS OF FOREHAND ATTACK ON ACCELERATED LOOP TECHNIQUES IN TABLE TENNIS - A CASE STUDY
INTRODUCTION: Although the fast forehand attack style of Chinese players has secured for them a leading position in the table tennis world, the accelerated loop technique still presents a problem in competition. However, some elite Chinese forehand attack players have contended very well with players using the accelerated loop technique. This demonstrates that the forehand attack is an effective technique with which to overcome the “loop”. From literature review, we found that cinematographical and electromyographical data on forehand attack on accelerated loop techniques was lacking. The purpose of this paper was to explore the technical characteristics of elite table tennis players performing forehand attack on accelerated loop techniques. In addition, the data collected for this study will provide biomechanical references for coaches and less experienced players
Three Moving Groups Detected in the LAMOST DR1 Archive
We analyze the kinematics of thick disk and halo stars observed by the Large
sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope. We have constructed a
sample of 7,993 F, G and K nearby main-sequence stars (\textit{d} 2 kpc)
with estimates of position (x, y, z) and space velocity (, , ) based
on color and proper motion from the SDSS DR9 catalog. Three `phase-space
overdensities' are identified in [\textit{V}, ] with
significance levels of 3. %[L, eccentricity], [L,
L], and [V, V].
Two of them (Hyades-Pleiades stream, Arcturus-AF06 stream) have been
identified previously. We also find evidence for a new stream (centered at
\textit{V} -180 km s) in the halo. The formation mechanisms of
these three streams are analyzed. Our results support the hypothesis the
Arcturus-AF06 stream and the new stream originated from the debris of a
disrupted satellite, while Hyades-Pleiades stream has a dynamical origin.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figure
Lower Bound on Translative Covering Density of Tetrahedra
In this paper, we present the first nontrivial lower bound on the translative
covering density of tetrahedra. To this end, we show the lower bound, in any
translative covering of tetrahedra, on the density relative to a given cube.
The resulting lower bound on the translative covering density of tetrahedra is
Evidence for Co-rotation Origin of Super Metal Rich Stars in LAMOST-Gaia: Multiple Ridges with a Similar Slope in phi versus Lz Plane
Super metal-rich (SMR) stars in the solar neighborhood are thought to be born
in the inner disk and came to present location by radial migration, which is
most intense at the co-rotation resonance (CR) of the Galactic bar. In this
work, we show evidence for the CR origin of SMR stars in LAMOST-Gaia by
detecting six ridges and undulations in the phi versus Lz space coded by median
VR, following a similar slope of -8 km/s kpc/deg. The slope is predicted by
Monario et al.'s model for CR of a large and slow Galactic bar. For the first
time, we show the variation of angular momentum with azimuths from -10 deg to
20 deg for two outer and broad undulations with negative VR around -18 km/s
following this slope. The wave-like pattern with large amplitude outside CR and
a wide peak of the second undulations indicate that minor merger of the
Sagittarius dwarf galaxy with the disk might play a role besides the
significant impact of CR of the Galactic bar.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, published in ApJ Lette
Classification and enumeration of lattice polygons in a disc
In 1980, V. I. Arnold studied the classification problem for convex lattice
polygons of given area. Since then, this problem and its analogues have been
studied by many authors, including , Lagarias,
Pach, Santos, Ziegler and Zong. Recently, Zong proposed two computer programs
to prove Hadwiger's covering conjecture and Borsuk's partition problem,
respectively, based on enumeration of the convex lattice polytopes contained in
certain balls. For this purpose, similar to
and Pach's work on volume and Liu and Zong's work on cardinality, we obtain
bounds on the number of non-equivalent convex lattice polygons in a given disc.
Furthermore, we propose an algorithm to enumerate these convex lattice
polygons.Comment: 19 pages, 3 figure
Mining and Predicting Temporal Patterns in the Quality Evolution of Wikipedia Articles
Online open collaboration systems like Wikipedia are complex adaptive systems within which large numbers of individual agents and artifacts interact and co-evolve over time. A key issue in these systems is the quality of the co-created artifacts and the processes through which high-quality artifacts are produced. In this paper, we took a dynamic approach to uncover common patterns in the temporal evolution of 6,057 Wikipedia articles in the domains of roads, films, and battles. Using Dynamic Time Warping, an advanced time-series clustering method, we identified three distinctive growth patterns, namely, stalled, plateaued, and sustained. Multinomial logistic regressions to predict these different clusters suggest that the path that an article follows is determined by both its inherent attributes, such as topic importance, and the contribution and coordination of editors who collaborated on the article. Our results also suggest that different factors matter at different stages of an article’s life cycle
Stellar Stream Candidates in the Solar Neighborhood Found in the LAMOST DR3 and TGAS
We have cross-matched the LAMOST DR3 with the Gaia DR1 TGAS catalogs and
obtained a sample of 166,827 stars with reliable kinematics. A technique based
on the wavelet transform was applied to detect significant overdensities in
velocity space among five subsamples divided by spatial position. In total, 16
significant overdensities of stars with very similar kinematics were
identified. Among these, four are new stream candidates and the rest are
previously known groups. Both the U-V velocity and metallicity distributions of
the local sample show a clear gap between the Hercules structure and the
Hyades-Pleiades structure. The U-V positions of these peaks shift with the
spatial position. Following a description of our analysis, we speculate on
possible origins of our stream candidates.Comment: 16 pages, 5 figure
