    What Roles does Emotional Intelligence Play in Leadership?

    This study focuses on the relationship between Emotional Intelligence (EI) and leadership. The main study is related to how EI influences leadership in both positive and negative ways. The study explores the definition of EI, and how EI influences leadership behaviors which includes how the four factors of EI affect Katz’ Three Skills. The study also discusses how EI affects leadership behaviors and outcomes positively and negatively. EI plays an important role in leadership, and the study explains that EI significantly facilitates leaders to be effective leaders if they are able to balance both positive and negative influences of EI. Most articles study the positive side of EI, though some articles explain the negative side of EI. However, an effective leader needs to obtain the abilities to balance both sides of EI in leadership. For further discussion in the future, a question to consider is how can leaders keep a suitable balance of these positive and negative aspects of EI in leadership?     Reliability analysis of the impact of thickness measurement accuracy on the longitudinal strength assessment of CAP

    The reliability analysis of the longitudinal bending strength of ships is conducted using the total probability method, taking into account and analyzing the accuracy error in thickness measurement of transverse section members on existing servicing ships. A mathematical model for calculating failure probability CAP ratings is established. By calculating the CAP rating of an aged LPG carrier, it is observed that when the deterministic method reaches the target rating, the failure probability in rating calculation by the reliability analysis method is high. This indicates a significant influence of thickness measurement accuracy on CAP rating accuracy

    Healthcare professionals’ and patients’ assessments of listed mobile health apps in China: a qualitative study

    BackgroundIn recent years, mobile health (mHealth) has gradually developed in China, and intelligent medicine has become an important research topic. However, there are still significant problems in mHealth applications (apps). Although healthcare professionals and patients are the main users, few studies have focused on their perceptions of the quality of mHealth apps.ObjectiveThis study aimed to (1) understand the respective perceptions of healthcare professionals and patients regarding mHealth apps, (2) assess what barriers exist that influence the user experience, and (3) explore how to improve the quality of mHealth apps and the development of the mHealth market in China. The study aims to promote the standardization of mHealth apps and provide effective information for the improvement and development of mHealth apps in the future.MethodsSemistructured interviews with 9 patients and 14 healthcare professionals were conducted from January 2022 to April 2022 in the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University. The participants used mHealth apps for more than 3 months, including the “Good Mood” and “Peace and Safe Doctors” apps and apps developed by the hospital that were popular in China. Interview transcripts were analysed using thematic analysis.ResultsThe following five themes were extracted: different concerns, hidden medical dangers, distance and insecurity, barriers for older people, and having positive perceptions of mHealth apps. Healthcare professionals prioritized simplicity in regard to mHealth apps, whereas patients rated effectiveness as the most crucial factor. The study also revealed several problems with mHealth apps, including insufficient information about physician qualifications, inaccurate medical content, nonstandard treatment processes, and unclear accountability, which led to a sense of distance and insecurity among participants. Older individuals faced additional obstacles when using mHealth apps. Despite these issues, the participants remained optimistic about the future of mHealth app development.ConclusionThe utilization, advantages, and obstacles of mHealth applications for healthcare professionals and patients were explored through semistructured interviews. Despite the promising prospects for mHealth apps in China, numerous issues still need to be addressed. Enhancing the safety monitoring system and developing user-friendly mHealth apps for older adult patients are essential steps to bridge the gap between healthcare providers and patients

    An Innovative Architecture of UTC GPS/INS System with Improved Performance under Severe Jamming

    Ultratightly coupled (UTC) architecture is believed to be the best architecture for Global Positioning System (GPS) and Inertial Navigation System (INS) integration system due to the advanced data fusion strategy and effective mutual assistance between the subsystems. However the performance of UTC GPS/INS system will be degraded by severe jamming interference, especially when low-grade inertial measurement unit (IMU) is used. To solve this problem an innovative architecture of UTC GPS/INS system is proposed. Since GPS receiver’s antijamming ability is closely related to tracking loop bandwidth, adaptive tracking loop bandwidth based on the fuzzy logics is proposed to enhance antijamming ability for GPS receiver. The bandwidth will be adapted through a fuzzy logic controller according to the calculated carrier to noise intensity ratio (C/N0). Moreover, fuzzy adaptive integration Kalman filter (IKF) is developed to improve estimation accuracy of IKF when measurement noises change. A simulation platform is established to evaluate the innovative architecture and results demonstrate that the proposed scheme improves navigation performance significantly under severe jamming conditions

    Surface decoration by Spirulina polysaccharide enhances the cellular uptake and anticancer efficacy of selenium nanoparticles

    A simple and solution-phase method for functionalization of selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) with Spirulina polysaccharides (SPS) has been developed in the present study. The cellular uptake and anticancer activity of SPS-SeNPs were also evaluated. Monodisperse and homogeneous spherical SPS-SeNPs with diameters ranging from 20 nm to 50 nm were achieved under optimized conditions, which were stable in the solution phase for at least 3 months. SPS surface decoration significantly enhanced the cellular uptake and cytotoxicity of SeNPs toward several human cancer cell lines. A375 human melanoma cells were found extremely susceptible to SPS-SeNPs with half maximal (50%) inhibitory concentration value of 7.94 ÎĽM. Investigation of the underlying mechanisms revealed that SPS-SeNPs inhibited cancer cell growth through induction of apoptosis, as evidenced by an increase in sub-G1 cell population, deoxyribonucleic acid fragmentation, chromatin condensation, and phosphatidylserine translocation. Results suggest that the strategy to use SPS as a surface decorator could be an effective way to enhance the cellular uptake and anticancer efficacy of nanomaterials. SPS-SeNPs may be a potential candidate for further evaluation as a chemopreventive and chemotherapeutic agent against human cancers

    Chromosome-level genome assembly of a high-altitude-adapted frog (Rana kukunoris) from the Tibetan plateau provides insight into amphibian genome evolution and adaptation

    Background The high-altitude-adapted frog Rana kukunoris, occurring on the Tibetan plateau, is an excellent model to study life history evolution and adaptation to harsh high-altitude environments. However, genomic resources for this species are still underdeveloped constraining attempts to investigate the underpinnings of adaptation. Results The R. kukunoris genome was assembled to a size of 4.83 Gb and the contig N50 was 1.80 Mb. The 6555 contigs were clustered and ordered into 12 pseudo-chromosomes covering similar to 93.07% of the assembled genome. In total, 32,304 genes were functionally annotated. Synteny analysis between the genomes of R. kukunoris and a low latitude species Rana temporaria showed a high degree of chromosome level synteny with one fusion event between chr11 and chr13 forming pseudo-chromosome 11 in R. kukunoris. Characterization of features of the R. kukunoris genome identified that 61.5% consisted of transposable elements and expansions of gene families related to cell nucleus structure and taste sense were identified. Ninety-five single-copy orthologous genes were identified as being under positive selection and had functions associated with the positive regulation of proteins in the catabolic process and negative regulation of developmental growth. These gene family expansions and positively selected genes indicate regions for further interrogation to understand adaptation to high altitude. Conclusions Here, we reported a high-quality chromosome-level genome assembly of a high-altitude amphibian species using a combination of Illumina, PacBio and Hi-C sequencing technologies. This genome assembly provides a valuable resource for subsequent research on R. kukunoris genomics and amphibian genome evolution in general.Peer reviewe
