Improved Method of Fatigue Life Assessment for TiAl Alloys
For rapid fatigue life assessment of TiAl alloys,
the new method was proposed based on qualitative
and quantitative analyses. The qualitative
analysis was employed to illustrate the microstructure
effect for TiAl alloys on their fatigue
life. The new formula is derived for estimation
of the interaction forces of dislocations, which
yields quite satisfactory results. The results of
qualitative and quantitative analyses were used
to predict the fatigue life improvement by the
addition of trace elements producing grain refinement.

Conductance and persistent current of a quantum ring coupled to a quantum wire under external fields
The electronic transport of a noninteracting quantum ring side-coupled to a
quantum wire is studied via a single-band tunneling tight-binding Hamiltonian.
We found that the system develops an oscillating band with antiresonances and
resonances arising from the hybridization of the quasibound levels of the ring
and the coupling to the quantum wire. The positions of the antiresonances
correspond exactly to the electronic spectrum of the isolated ring. Moreover,
for a uniform quantum ring the conductance and the persistent current density
were found to exhibit a particular odd-even parity related with the ring-order.
The effects of an in-plane electric field was also studied. This field shifts
the electronic spectrum and damps the amplitude of the persistent current
density. These features may be used to control externally the energy spectra
and the amplitude of the persistent current.Comment: Revised version, 7 pages and 9 figures. To appear in Phys. Rev.
Homodyne detection for measuring internal quantum correlations of optical pulses
A new method is described for determining the quantum correlations at
different times in optical pulses by using balanced homodyne detection. The
signal pulse and sequences of ultrashort test pulses are superimposed, where
for chosen distances between the test pulses their relative phases and
intensities are varied from measurement to measurement. The correlation
statistics of the signal pulse is obtained from the time-integrated difference
photocurrents measured.Comment: 7 pages, A4.sty include
Integrating fluctuations into distribution of resources in transportation networks
We propose a resource distribution strategy to reduce the average travel time
in a transportation network given a fixed generation rate. Suppose that there
are essential resources to avoid congestion in the network as well as some
extra resources. The strategy distributes the essential resources by the
average loads on the vertices and integrates the fluctuations of the
instantaneous loads into the distribution of the extra resources. The
fluctuations are calculated with the assumption of unlimited resources, where
the calculation is incorporated into the calculation of the average loads
without adding to the time complexity. Simulation results show that the
fluctuation-integrated strategy provides shorter average travel time than a
previous distribution strategy while keeping similar robustness. The strategy
is especially beneficial when the extra resources are scarce and the network is
heterogeneous and lowly loaded.Comment: 14 pages, 4 figure
Search for the Rare Decays J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e, J/Psi --> D- e+ nu_e, and J/Psi --> D0bar e+ e-
We report on a search for the decays J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e + c.c., J/Psi -->
D- e+ nu_e + c.c., and J/Psi --> D0bar e+ e- + c.c. in a sample of 5.8 * 10^7
J/Psi events collected with the BESII detector at the BEPC. No excess of signal
above background is observed, and 90% confidence level upper limits on the
branching fractions are set: B(J/Psi --> Ds- e+ nu_e + c.c.)<4.8*10^-5, B(J/Psi
--> D- e+ nu_e + c.c.) D0bar e+ e- + c.c.)<1.1*10^-5Comment: 10 pages, 4 figure
Direct Measurements of the Branching Fractions for and and Determinations of the Form Factors and
The absolute branching fractions for the decays and
are determined using singly
tagged sample from the data collected around 3.773 GeV with the
BES-II detector at the BEPC. In the system recoiling against the singly tagged
meson, events for and events for decays are observed. Those yield
the absolute branching fractions to be and . The
vector form factors are determined to be
and . The ratio of the two form
factors is measured to be .Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure

Measurements of J/psi Decays into 2(pi+pi-)eta and 3(pi+pi-)eta
Based on a sample of 5.8X 10^7 J/psi events taken with the BESII detector,
the branching fractions of J/psi--> 2(pi+pi-)eta and J/psi-->3(pi+pi-)eta are
measured for the first time to be (2.26+-0.08+-0.27)X10^{-3} and
(7.24+-0.96+-1.11)X10^{-4}, respectively.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figure

New data are presented on from a sample of 58M
events in the upgraded BES II detector at the BEPC. There is a
conspicuous signal for and a peak at higher mass which
may be fitted with . From a combined analysis with
data, the branching ratio

BESII Detector Simulation
A Monte Carlo program based on Geant3 has been developed for BESII detector
simulation. The organization of the program is outlined, and the digitization
procedure for simulating the response of various sub-detectors is described.
Comparisons with data show that the performance of the program is generally
satisfactory.Comment: 17 pages, 14 figures, uses elsart.cls, to be submitted to NIM
