    Safety Talk and Check to Prevent Pesticide Toxicity Among Farmer

    The problem at informal sector in particular for farmer when used the pesticides. In Sumber Mufakat village the farmers always use the pesticides without using the safety equipment and have direct contact with the pesticides exposure. The purpose of this research was to apply the safety talk and check method as prevention method to solve the pesticides toxicity that asses from safety and health of pesticide use behaviour. This preventive intervention research was using Participatory Action Research (PAR) design.The data collected by observation, quetionaire, and health check list. The population was all holticultura farmers in Sumber Mufakat village that divide in nine farmer's group. The sample collected by using proportional random sampling. The data will analyze by using qualitative descriptive. The result showed that the implication of safety talk and check method could prevent of pesticide exposure that present from safety and health of pesticides use behaviour. To support the action of safety talk method needed to develop one community that care about the farmers with government endorsement. The check method was very helpful the farmers to identify and predict their health. Both of it could be to cultivate the farmer in safety of pesticide used and early discovery of health symptom cause pesticide used

    Background: Commercial sex workers is one of high risk group in spreading of HIV/AIDS. In Langkat District, till October 2007 there were 7 cases AIDS reported from prostitutes.Objectives: The purpose of the study was to analyze the influence of their predisposing factors (knowledge and attitude), enabling factors (complexity of condom, availability of condom, customer’s comfort) and reinforcing factors (family, Non-Government Organization/NGO, health workers, opinion leader) on commercial sex workers bargaining power in using condom.Methods: This was an explanatory survey which was conducted in Langkat District towards 104 commercial sex workers in 2008. Data collected by interview using questionaire; were processed by using multiple regressions.Result and Conclusion: The result of study showed that 70,2% of the commercial sex workers bargaining power in asking their customers to use condom were in bad category. The result of multiple regression analysis showed that 85,6% of the commercial sex workers bargaining power to ask their customers to use condom can be explained by the knowledge and attitude of the commercial sex workers, complexity of condom, customer’s comfort, and Non Governmental Organization.Keywords: bargaining power, commercial sex workers, condo

    IMPROVING THE STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY MASTERY’ USING GAMES INVOLVING PICTURES IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

    The objectives of the study are to describe and find out the effectiveness the teaching of English vocabulary using games involving pictures in class activities at the third grade students of Elementary School. This study is action research. The subject of study is the third grade students of Elementary School of Piri Nitikan Yogyakarta. There were 17 students in the class. The data were collected from the observation, interview and test. The data were analyzed from field notes, interview transcript, the observation sheets and test result. It is concluded that using games involving picture in the class can make some progress to the students. The students can increase their vocabulary mastery and their ability both in writing words and in speaking. The students can pronounce the English words correctly. Besides, using games involving picture make the students active and enjoy English class

     ABSTRACTHigh death rate caused by non-transmitted diseases in the world is begun with metabolic syndrome in human beings such the increase in IMT (Body Mass Index) to be obesity, the increase in blood pressure to be hypertension, the increase in blood glucose to be diabetes mellitus, and abnormality of triglycerides, and  HDL cholesterol. Many factors which trigger the indicator abnormality, and of them is bad sleep quality. The research used cross sectional design by analyzing the correlation between sleep quality and 5 metabolic syndrome indicator in female nurses in the operation room of Adam Malik Medan hospital. Sleep quality was measured by using questionnaire of Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), body height and weight were measured to get IMT value, blood pressure was measured by using tensimeter, blood glucose and blood lipid were measured by getting the respondent’s vena blood samples. The data were processed and analysis with independent t-test.The result with independent t-test showed that there was significant difference in IMT (sig=0,003), systolic blood pressure (sig=0,028), and fasting blood glucose content (sig=0,00). However, there was no significant difference in trigliyceride content (sig=0,519), HDL cholesterol content (sig=0,300),). The conclusion was that sleep quality was correlated with three metabolic syndrome indicators: IMT, blood pressure, and blood glucose content, but there was no correlation with trigliyceride and HDL cholesterol.Keywords: Sleep Quality, Metabolic Syndrome , T-Test,

    The Implementation of Non-Smoking Area Policy at the Elementary School, Padangsidimpuan, North Sumatera

    Background: The Local Regulation of Padangsidimpuan City No. 7/ 2012 on Non-Smoking Area is a derivative of the Law No. 36/ 2009 on Health and Government Regulation No. 109/ 2012 on Addictive Substance and Tobacco Products Hazardous to Health. The non-smoking area regulation can help the city government of Padangsidimpuan to realize a healthy society. This study aimed to analyze the implementation of the Non-Smoking Area (NSA) policy at public elementary school in Padangsidimpuan City, North Sumatera. Subjects and Method: This was a qualitative study with phenomenology approach. This study was conducted at the Public Elementary School in Padangsidimpuan city, North Sumatera. Five informants were selected in this study including the principal, teachers, parents, school guards, and food sellers. The data were collected by interview, direct observation, and documentation. The data were analyzed by Miles and Huberman model. Results: The NSA policy had not been well-implemented at the elementary school, due to some reasons: (1) Lack of communication between the local goverment and the school; (2) Lack of facilities and infrastructure to support the NSA policy; (3) Lack of the law inforcement.     The Relationships of Motivation and Sanction with Hand Hygiene Compliance among Health Workers at Dr. Pirngadi Hospital, Medan, North Sumatera

    Background: Hand hygiene is described by many health care workers as the single most important tool in preventing the spread of health care-associated infections between patients. Washing hands before and after patient contact seems like a simple solution to prevent the spread of bacteria between patients. Most hospitals have hand hygiene policies in place that guide their employees to do just that. But this policy is not always complied with. This study aimed to determine the associations of presence of sanction and motivation with hand hygiene compliance among health workers at Dr. Pirngadi Hospital, Medan. Subjects and Method: A cross sectional study was conducted at Dr. Pirngadi Hospital, Medan, North Sumatera. A sample of 33 health workers were selected for this study by exhaustive sampling. The dependent variable was hand hygiene compliance. The independent variables were sanction and motivation. The data were collected by questionnaire and analyzed by a mulitiple logistic regression. Results: Hand hygiene compliance was associated with the presence of sanction (OR= 3.44; 95%CI= 1.22 to 4.95; p= 0.041) and motivation (OR= 4.77; 95%CI= 2.52 to 6.30; p= 0.029).     Factors Affecting Patient Compliance to The National Health Insurance Referal System in Medan, North Sumatera

    Background: Referal system is a critical element of the national health insurance (JKN) scheme that is managed by the Managing Body of Social Insurance (BPJS). An effective referral system ensures a close relationship between all levels of the health system and helps to ensure people receive the best possible care closest to home. It also assists in making cost-effective use of hospitals and primary health care services. Support to health centres and outreach services by experienced staff from the hospital or district health office helps build capacity and enhance access to better quality care. To date, however, the referal system had not been implemented as expected. This study aimed to analyze factors affecting patient compliance with the national health insurance referal system at Royal Prima Hospital, Medan, North Sumatera. Subjects and Methods: This was a cross sectional study conducted at Royal Prima Hospital, Medan, North Sumatera. A sample of 164 BPJS patients were selected for this study. The dependent variable was compliance with the referal system of JKN. The independent variables was accomodation. The data were collected by questionnaire and analyzed by a logistic regression model. Results: Patient compliance with the referal system of JKN was associated with accomodation cost incurred by the patient and the attending family member. Conclusion: Patient compliance with the referal system of JKN is associated with accomodation cost incurred by the patient and the attending family member.     Resource Mobilization and Preparedness to Control Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever in Medan, North Sumatera

    Background: Infectious diseases continuously emerge and/or reemerge, resulting in epidemics of varying sizes and scope. Infection preventionists undertake preparedness activities to ensure that the healthcare facilities and communities are well-prepared to recognize and respond to an infectious disease epidemic. Infectious disease epidemic preparedness is an ever evolving process that addresses the four principles of emergency management: mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. This study aimed to determine the relationship between resource mobilization within community and preparedness to control DHF. Subjects and Method: A cross sectional study was carried out in Medan, North Sumatera. A sample of 100 household heads was selected for this study by random sampling. The dependent variable was preparedness to control DHF. The independent variable was resource mobilization within the community. The data were collected by questionnaire and analyzed by chi-square with Odd Ratio (OR) as the measure of association. Results: Preparedness to control DHF was positively associated with resource mobilization within the community (OR= 3.22; 95% CI= 1.32 to 7.85; p= 0.001).     Kualitas Pelayanan BPJS Kesehatan di Masa Pandemi Covid-19

    This study aims to analyze the quality of BPJS Health services during the COVID-19 pandemic at the Mampang Health Center based on the dimensions of Tangible, Reliability, Responsiveness, Assurance and Empathy. This research design uses a quantitative approach with a descriptive type of research. The location of this research is the Mampang Public Health Center, Kotapinang District, South Labuhanbatu Regency. Based on the results of the research conducted by researchers on 150 respondents who were patients or participants who visited the Mampang Public Health Center, Kotapinang District using BPJS Health, the results were (88.6%) rated moderate on Tangible dimensions, (85.7%) assessed on the Reliability dimension, (94.3%) rated it moderate on the Responsiveness dimension, (82.9%) rated it moderate on the Assurance dimension, and (97.1%) rated yes it meets the Empathy dimension. None of the respondents' statements stated that the quality of service was poor even though they were BPJS users
