The Iron Catalyzed Reaction between Nitrosyl Disulfonate and Hydroxylamine Monosulfonate Ions

    Get PDF
Potassium nitrosyl disulfonate, K2NO(SO3)2, is noteworthy because the solid salt is orange in color and diamagnetic while its neutral aqueous solutions are purple in color and paramagnetic. These neutral solutions hydrolyze slowly to form N2O and hydroxylamine sulfonates; on the addition of acid the rate of hydrolysis is markedly increased. The mechanism of the hydrolytic reaction is unexpectedly complex as was found by Murib and Ritter [1] and, independently, by us. In order to obtain a more comprehensive picture of the mechanism of the hydrolytic reaction we have explored additional reactions which may play a part in the hydrolysis

Method and apparatus for characterizing reflected ultrasonic pulses

    Get PDF
The invention is a method of and apparatus for characterizing the amplitudes of a sequence of reflected pulses R1, R2, and R3 by converting them into corresponding electric signals E1, E2, and E3 to substantially the same value during each sequence thereby restoring the reflected pulses R1, R2, and R3 to their initial reflection values by timing means, an exponential generator, and a time gain compensator. Envelope and baseline reject circuits permit the display and accurate location of the time spaced sequence of electric signals having substantially the same amplitude on a measurement scale on a suitable video display or oscilloscope

    Acoustic radiation stress measurement

    Get PDF
Ultrasonic radio frequency tone-bursts are launched into a sample of material tested. The amplitude of the tone-bursts and the slope of the resulting static displacement pulses are measured. These measurements are used to calculate the nonlinearities of the materials

The transfer of technology to measure skin burn depth in humans

    Get PDF
Discussed here is the use of ultrasonic techniques originally used to locate cracks in metal structues to measure burn wound depth in humans. Acoustic impedance, performance tests, and the theoretical model are discussed. Measurements of skin burns on anesthetized pigs made with the the ultrasonic instrumentation were in agreement with diagnoses made by a physician, and subsequently confirmed by the healing process. Researchers felt that the concept proved useful in a clinical setting and that the instrument and concept were ready to extend to the manufacturer

Ultrasonic method and apparatus for determining crack opening load

    Get PDF
An ultrasonic apparatus determines crack opening load by placing a transmit transducer on one side of the crack and a receive transducer on the opposite side of the crack. An acoustic signal passing through a region of the crack is mechanically rectified to produce a second harmonic of an input signal. A harmonic output signal of the receive transducer is converted into an electrical signal and the peak harmonic amplitude is determined while increasing a tension load on the specimen. The peak harmonic amplitude indicates crack opening load

Adoption Laws of Ohio: A Critical and Comparative Study

    Get PDF
Adoption has been defined as The act by which the relations of paternity and affiliation are recognized as legally existing between persons not so related. \u27 However, the result of adoption is the creation of a status, that of parent and child, and not of a contractual obligation. In this respect it is similar to marriage. A study of adoption perforce requires an examination of the practice and the law involved in the placement of children for adoption, the termination of the rights and obligation of the natural parents, the procedures of adoption in the courts and the legal effect of the adoptive status as it affects the child and the adopting parents

Capacitive acoustic wave detector and method of using same

    Get PDF
A capacitor having two substantially parallel conductive faces is acoustically coupled to a conductive sample end such that the sample face is one end of the capacitor. A non-contacting dielectric may serve as a spacer between the two conductive plates. The formed capacitor is connected to an LC oscillator circuit such as a Hartley oscillator circuit producing an output frequency which is a function of the capacitor spacing. This capacitance oscillates as the sample end coating is oscillated by an acoustic wave generated in the sample by a transmitting transducer. The electrical output can serve as an absolute indicator of acoustic wave displacement
