Reframing Project Goals in Alignment with Responsive Ecosystems

    Get PDF
This presentation offers a window into the progress and changes made as a part of the 5-year research-practice collaboration funded by the E.M. Ewing Kauffman Foundation exploring the strengths, weaknesses, and gaps in three major entrepreneurial ecosystems across Ohio- Cleveland, Toledo, and Dayton. This project\u27s heavy reliance on collaboration with service providers was complicated by the ecosystem’s immediate responses to the economic duress of the pandemic and the influx of new entrepreneurs and capital. Like how these ecosystems responded, the project team adjusted by reframing this study as a deep dive into how entrepreneurial ecosystems grow and change to best serve their region

    Math in two cultures

Includes bibliographical references.Video tape attachment missing. My honors thesis consists of a videotape as well as written documentation of math classes in Australia and the United States. The purpose of this study was to compare the differences in teaching strategies and then to help other students appreciate multiculturalism and how it can be used in the classroom. I observed three high school math classes in the United States. Videos were taken during the class periods and then later shown to the Australian teachers. The Australian teachers then commented on the American teaching styles. Videos were also recorded in Australia. The American teachers then commented on H2these tapes. Most of the differences consisted of discipline strategies and the physical structure of the school. Each school has positive qualities, but both could be improved. My thesis covers these differences in depth.B.S.Ed. (Bachelor of Science in Education

Ignorance of the Law Is No Excuse Except for Tax Crimes

That ignorance of the law is no excuse is a maxim that most school children can recite. Wide awareness of the maxim (without a lawyer\u27s comprehension of its subtleties) encourages citizens to make an effort to know laws which might regulate their conduct. Perversely, the crimes of the Internal Revenue Code permit ignorance of their strictures as a defense. If voluntary compliance is the taxation system\u27s goal, the ultimate sanctions should be structured to promote investigation of the law and reliance on competent advisors

A Study of the Relationship Between Locus of Control and Teen Pregnancy

The relationship between teenage pregnancy and locus of control was explored. Participants included 60 girls between the ages of 14 and 18. Thirty of these girls had given birth to a child in high school; the other 30 had not. The participants completed Levenson\u27s IPC Locus of Control test. It was predicted that the re would be no relationship between the two groups and their locus of control . Belief in Internal Control, belief in Powerful Others, and belief in control by Chance were explored . It was found that there was no significant relationship between these factors and teenage pregnancy

This article explores Cheek v United States, ___ US ___, 111 S Ct 604 (1991), which reaffirmed that ignorance of the law is a defense to the principal federal tax crimes. The author discusses the beginnings of a disturbing trend toward overenthusiasm for the decision which might result in the unwarranted expansion of the defense and corollary rules, not only for federal tax crimes and penalties, but other crimes as well. The author argues that Cheek presents an unattractive and unseemly rule of law which should not be emulated or broadened

Revitalizing the Physics Curriculum: Introducing Game-Based Learning as an Effective Educational Technique in the Physics Curriculum

In today\u27s society, many of the challenges that we face, such as renewable energy and disease treatment and prevention can only be resolved through the assistance of science and technology. This epiphany has resulted in a desire for educational institutions to place a strong emphasis on improving today\u27s students knowledge and skills in the areas of science, technology, and mathematics. In all, this is no easy task to accomplish as our traditional methods of instruction in science are not adequate enough to achieve the desired goals for students. Thus, the responsibility of preparing newer generations of learners falls to science teachers, who must devise new ways of imparting the knowledge and skills that are necessary to succeed in this rapidly evolving world. Game-based learning is one such method that offers educators a unique and engaging way to approach scientific content. The overall intent of this project was to design lessons that adapted digital games and simulations to demonstrate how game-based learning strategies could be used to make learning science engaging and fun. In particular, the games and simulations used were used to address major topics in the New York State physics curriculum
