    The Study and Implementation of Network-Based Auditing System with Session Tracking and Monitoring

    With consideration of the increasing importance of auditing system and the present auditing systemsā€™ incapability of performing packet reassembling analysis, this research attempts to develop a ā€œnetwork-based auditing system with session tracking and monitoringā€ to assist network administrators to analyze and rearrange the packets into separate session groups. This developed system is able to reveal every single step of the unauthorized activities. As a result, the administrators can investigate each network session and its transferred data more efficiently, and reduced greatly the time for auditing data analysis. In addition, the event reconstruction simulates the actual event occurred at that time; this feature provides network administrators with more detailed and realistic insight concerning vulnerabilities in network security that need to be fixed. Also, this system keeps track of all network events, and collects related information in a set of auditing files (log files). Moreover, the collected records and reassembled files can serve as evidences in tracing cyber-crimes and as references for recovery process

    Oromotor variability in children with mild spastic cerebral palsy: a kinematic study of speech motor control

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Treating motor speech dysfunction in children with CP requires an understanding of the mechanism underlying speech motor control. However, there is a lack of literature in quantitative measures of motor control, which may potentially characterize the nature of the speech impairments in these children. This study investigated speech motor control in children with cerebral palsy (CP) using kinematic analysis.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>We collected 10 children with mild spastic CP, aged 4.8 to 7.5 years, and 10 age-matched children with typical development (TD) from rehabilitation department at a tertiary hospital. All children underwent analysis of percentage of consonants correct (PCC) and kinematic analysis of speech tasks: poly-syllable (PS) and mono-syllable (MS) tasks using the Vicon Motion 370 system integrated with a digital camcorder. Kinematic parameters included spatiotemporal indexes (STIs), and average values and coefficients of variation (CVs) of utterance duration, peak oral opening displacement and velocity. An ANOVA was conducted to determine whether PCC and kinematic data significantly differed between groups.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>CP group had relatively lower PCCs (80.0-99.0%) than TD group (<it>p </it>= 0.039). CP group had higher STIs in PS speech tasks, but not in MS tasks, than TD group did (<it>p </it>= 0.001). The CVs of utterance duration for MS and PS tasks of children with CP were at least three times as large as those of TD children (<it>p </it>< 0.01). However, average values of utterance duration, peak oral opening displacement and velocity and CVs of other kinematic data for both tasks did not significantly differ between two groups.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>High STI values and high variability on utterance durations in children with CP reflect deficits in relative spatial and/or especially temporal control for speech in the CP participants compared to the TD participants. Children with mild spastic CP may have more difficulty in processing increased articulatory demands and resulted in greater oromotor variability than normal children. The kinematic data such as STIs can be used as indices for detection of speech motor control impairments in children with mild CP and assessment of the effectiveness in the treatment.</p

    Cancer may arise from dedifferentiation of mature cells or maturation-arrested stem cells. Previously we reported that definitive endoderm from which liver was derived, expressed Globo H, SSEA-3 and SSEA-4. In this study, we examined the expression of their biosynthetic enzymes, FUT1, FUT2, B3GALT5 and ST3GAL2, in 135 hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissues by qRT-PCR. High expression of either FUT1 or B3GALT5 was significantly associated with advanced stages and poor outcome. Kaplan Meier survival analysis showed significantly shorter relapse-free survival (RFS) for those with high expression of either FUT1 or B3GALT5 (Pā€‰=ā€‰0.024 and 0.001, respectively) and shorter overall survival (OS) for those with high expression of B3GALT5 (Pā€‰=ā€‰0.017). Combination of FUT1 and B3GALT5 revealed that high expression of both genes had poorer RFS and OS than the others (Pā€‰&lt;ā€‰0.001). Moreover, multivariable Cox regression analysis identified the combination of B3GALT5 and FUT1 as an independent predictor for RFS (HR: 2.370, 95% CI: 1.505-3.731, Pā€‰&lt;ā€‰0.001) and OS (HR: 2.153, 95% CI: 1.188-3.902, Pā€‰=ā€‰0.012) in HCC. In addition, the presence of Globo H, SSEA-3 and SSEA-4 in some HCC tissues and their absence in normal liver was established by immunohistochemistry staining and mass spectrometric analysis

    Effects of natto extract on endothelial injury in a rat model

    Vascular endothelial damage has been found to be associated with thrombus formation, which is considered to be a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. A diet of natto leads to a low prevalence of cardiovascular disease. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of natto extract on vascular endothelia damage with exposure to laser irradiation. Endothelial damage both in vitro and in vivo was induced by irradiation of rose bengal using a DPSS green laser. Cell viability was determined by MTS assay, and the intimal thickening was verified by a histological approach. The antioxidant content of natto extract was determined for the free radical scavenging activity. Endothelial cells were injured in the presence of rose bengal irradiated in a dose-dependent manner. Natto extract exhibits high levels of antioxidant activity compared with purified natto kinase. Apoptosis of laser-injured endothelial cells was significantly reduced in the presence of natto extract. Both the natto extract and natto kinase suppressed intimal thickening in rats with endothelial injury. The present findings suggest that natto extract suppresses vessel thickening as a synergic effect attributed to its antioxidant and anti-apoptosis properties

    Role of acid-sensing ion channel 3 in sub-acute-phase inflammation

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Inflammation-mediated hyperalgesia involves tissue acidosis and sensitization of nociceptors. Many studies have reported increased expression of acid-sensing ion channel 3 (ASIC3) in inflammation and enhanced ASIC3 channel activity with pro-inflammatory mediators. However, the role of ASIC3 in inflammation remains inconclusive because of conflicting results generated from studies of <it>ASIC3 </it>knockout (<it>ASIC3</it><sup>-/-</sup>) or dominant-negative mutant mice, which have shown normal, decreased or increased hyperalgesia during inflammation.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Here, we tested whether ASIC3 plays an important role in inflammation of subcutaneous tissue of paw and muscle in <it>ASIC3</it><sup>-/- </sup>mice induced by complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA) or carrageenan by investigating behavioral and pathological responses, as well as the expression profile of ion channels. Compared with the <it>ASIC3</it><sup>+/+ </sup>controls, <it>ASIC3</it><sup>-/- </sup>mice showed normal thermal and mechanical hyperalgesia with acute (4-h) intraplantar CFA- or carrageenan-induced inflammation, but the hyperalgesic effects in the sub-acute phase (1ā€“2 days) were milder in all paradigms except for thermal hyperalgesia with CFA-induced inflammation. Interestingly, carrageenan-induced primary hyperalgesia was accompanied by an <it>ASIC3</it>-dependent <it>Nav1.9 </it>up-regulation and increase of tetrodotoxin (TTX)-resistant sodium currents. CFA-inflamed muscle did not evoke hyperalgesia in <it>ASIC3</it><sup>-/- </sup>or <it>ASIC3</it><sup>+/+ </sup>mice, whereas carrageenan-induced inflammation in muscle abolished mechanical hyperalgesia in <it>ASIC3</it><sup>-/- </sup>mice, as previously described. However, <it>ASIC3</it><sup>-/- </sup>mice showed attenuated pathological features such as less CFA-induced granulomas and milder carrageenan-evoked vasculitis as compared with <it>ASIC3</it><sup>+/+ </sup>mice.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>We provide a novel finding that ASIC3 participates in the maintenance of sub-acute-phase primary hyperalgesia in subcutaneous inflammation and mediates the process of granuloma formation and vasculitis in intramuscular inflammation.</p

    Protein Kinase C Alpha Expression in Human Hepatocellular Carcinoma

    Review Protein kinase C (PKC), which contains ten isozymes with distinct enzymological characteristics and intracellular localization, has been believed to be correlated with tumor proliferation, migration and invasion. A recent study found that the PKCĪ± was significantly expressed in the human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and positively correlated with tumor size, tumor stage and mortality rate. It was also found that PKCĪ± played a critical role in cell proliferation, migration and invasion of the poorly differentiated human hepatoma cell lines (HA22T/VGH and SK-Hep-1).     Generation of heralded optical `Schroedinger cat' states by photon-addition

    Optical "Schr\"odinger cat" states, the non-classical superposition of two quasi-classical coherent states, serve as a basis for gedanken experiments testing quantum physics on mesoscopic scales and are increasingly recognized as a resource for quantum information processing. Here, we report the first experimental realization of optical "Schr\"odinger cats" by adding a photon to a squeezed vacuum state, so far only photon-subtraction protocols have been realized. Photon-addition gives us the advantage of using heralded signal photons as experimental triggers, and we can generate "Schr\"odinger cats" at rates exceeding 8.5Ɨ1048.5 \times 10^4 counts per second; at least one order of magnitude higher than all previously reported realizations. Wigner distributions with pronounced negative parts are demonstrated at down to -8.89 dB squeezing, even when the initial squeezed vacuum input state has low purity. Benchmarking against such a degraded squeezed input state we report a maximum fidelity of more than 80% with a maximum cat amplitude of āˆ£Ī±āˆ£ā‰ˆ1.66|\alpha| \approx 1.66. Our experiment uses photon-addition from pairs, one of those photons is used for monitoring, giving us enhanced control; moreover the pair production rates are high and should allow for repeated application of photon-addition via repeat-stages.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures, 1 tabl
