Broad-line and Multi-wave Band Emission from Blazars
We study the correlations of the flux of the broad-line emission ()
with the X-ray emission flux, optical emission flux at 5500 \AA and radio
emission flux at 5 GHz, respectively, for a large sample of 50 Blazars (39
flat-spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs) and 11 BL Lac objects). Our main results
are as follows. There are very strong correlations between and
and between and in both states for 39 FSRQs and the
slopes of the linear regression equations are almost equal to 1. There are weak
correlations between and and between and
for 11 BL Lac objects in both states, and the slopes of the linear regression
equations are close to 1. There are significant correlations between
and and between and for 50 blazars in both states,
the slopes of both the linear regression equations are also close to 1. These
results support a close link between relativistic jets and accretion on to the
central Kerr black hole. On the other hand, we find that BL Lac objects have
low accretion efficiency , whereas FSRQs have high accretion efficiency
. The unified model of FSRQs and BL Lac objects is also discussed.Comment: 15 pages, 8 figure
The effects of strong temperature anisotropy on the kinetic structure of collisionless slow shocks and reconnection exhausts. Part II: Theory
Simulations of collisionless oblique propagating slow shocks have revealed
the existence of a transition associated with a critical temperature anisotropy
epsilon=1-mu_0(P_parallel-P_perpendicular)/ B^2 = 0.25 (Liu, Drake and Swisdak
(2011)). An explanation for this phenomenon is proposed here based on
anisotropic fluid theory, in particular the Anisotropic Derivative
Nonlinear-Schrodinger-Burgers equation, with an intuitive model of the energy
closure for the downstream counter-streaming ions. The anisotropy value of 0.25
is significant because it is closely related to the degeneracy point of the
slow and intermediate modes, and corresponds to the lower bound of the coplanar
to non-coplanar transition that occurs inside a compound slow shock
(SS)/rotational discontinuity (RD) wave. This work implies that it is a pair of
compound SS/RD waves that bound the outflows in magnetic reconnection, instead
of a pair of switch-off slow shocks as in Petschek's model. This fact might
explain the rareness of in-situ observations of
Petschek-reconnection-associated switch-off slow shocks.Comment: 18 pages, 10 figure
Changing roles of the state in the financialization of urban development through chengtou in China
While the enabling role of the state in the financialization of urban development has been widely noted, the changing and variegated roles of different state actors have been less explored. This paper investigates this issue based on chengtou as financial agencies in China. First, we show that financialization is not merely a state-led process, but that the state also restricted financialization at different stages. Second, albeit with stringent central regulations, local states have striven to support chengtou, which demonstrates intrastate divergence. Third, we illustrate the performance of local states across regions to show that financialization further differentiates the patterns of local financing

Evaluation of ECMWF medium-range ensemble forecasts of precipitation for river basins
Providing probabilistic forecasts using Ensemble Prediction Systems has become increasingly popular in both the meteorological and hydrological communities. Compared to conventional deterministic forecasts, probabilistic forecasts may provide more reliable forecasts of a few hours to a number of days ahead, and hence are regarded as better tools for taking uncertainties into consideration and hedging against weather risks. It is essential to evaluate performance of raw ensemble forecasts and their potential values in forecasting extreme hydro-meteorological events. This study evaluates ECMWF's medium-range ensemble forecasts of precipitation over the period 1 January 2008 to 30 September 2012 on a selected midlatitude large-scale river basin, the Huai river basin (ca. 270 000 km2) in central-east China. The evaluation unit is sub-basin in order to consider forecast performance in a hydrologically relevant way. The study finds that forecast performance varies with sub-basin properties, between flooding and non-flooding seasons, and with the forecast properties of aggregated time steps and lead times. Although the study does not evaluate any hydrological applications of the ensemble precipitation forecasts, its results have direct implications in hydrological forecasts should these ensemble precipitation forecasts be employed in hydrology
Model anisotropic quantum Hall states
Model quantum Hall states including Laughlin, Moore-Read and Read-Rezayi
states are generalized into appropriate anisotropic form. The generalized
states are exact zero-energy eigenstates of corresponding anisotropic two- or
multi-body Hamiltonians, and explicitly illustrate the existence of geometric
degrees of in the fractional quantum Hall effect. These generalized model
quantum Hall states can provide a good description of the quantum Hall system
with anisotropic interactions. Some numeric results of these anisotropic
