The Role of Linguistics Habits and Proprioception Sense on Mental Number Line
AbstractThe present study investigated the relationship between linguistic styles and numerical representation as evidenced by the Spatial Numerical Association of Response Codes effect, which smaller (larger) number is respond faster with left (right) hand. In Study 1, sixteen participants did numerical judgments by pressing left-or-right side keyboard button with digits presented randomly on three sides of the screen. SNARC effect was found to be significant whereas no significant main effect of number placement was found. In Study 2, fifteen participants reacted with moving the joystick to leftward or rightward with one hand only. No SNARC effect was found as well as the interaction effect. These results suggested the role of proprioception sense in the conceptualization of mental number line
A cloud-based remote sensing data production system
The data processing capability of existing remote sensing system has not kept pace with the amount of data typically received and need to be processed. Existing product services are not capable of providing users with a variety of remote sensing data sources for selection, either. Therefore, in this paper, we present a product generation programme using multisource remote sensing data, across distributed data centers in a cloud environment, so as to compensate for the low productive efficiency, less types and simple services of the existing system. The programme adopts âmasterâslaveâ architecture. Specifically, the master center is mainly responsible for the production order receiving and parsing, as well as task and data scheduling, results feedback, and so on; the slave centers are the distributed remote sensing data centers, which storage one or more types of remote sensing data, and mainly responsible for production task execution. In general, each production task only runs on one data center, and the data scheduling among centers adopts a âminimum data transferringâ strategy. The logical workflow of each production task is organized based on knowledge base, and then turned into the actual executed workflow by Kepler. In addition, the scheduling strategy of each production task mainly depends on the Ganglia monitoring results, thus the computing resources can be allocated or expanded adaptively. Finally, we evaluated the proposed programme using test experiments performed at global, regional and local areas, and the results showed that our proposed cloud-based remote sensing production system could deal with massive remote sensing data and different products generating, as well as on-demand remote sensing computing and information service
Knowledge-Based Support for Management of Concurrent, Multidisciplinary Design
Artificial intelligence (AI) applications to design have tended to focus on modeling and automating aspects of single discipline design tasks. Relatively little attention has thus far been devoted to representing the kinds of design \u27metaknowledge\u27 needed to manage the important interface issues that arise in concurrent design, that is, multidisciplinary design decision-making. This paper provides a view of the process and management of concurrent design and evaluates the potential of two AI approachesâblackboard architectures and co-operative distributed problem-solving (CDPS)âto model and support the concurrent design of complex artifacts. A discussion of the process of multidisciplinary design highlights elements of both sequential and concurrent design decision-making. We identify several kinds of design metaknowledge used by expert managers to: partition the design task for efficient execution by specialists; set appropriate levels of design conservatism for key subsystem specifications; evaluate, limit and selectively communicate design changes across discipline boundaries; and control the sequence and timing of the key (highly constrained and constraining) design decisions for a given type of artifact. We explore the extent to which blackboard and CDPS architectures can provide valid models of and potential decision support for concurrent design by (1) representing design management metaknowledge, and (2) using it to enhance both horizontal (interdisciplinary) and vertical (project life cycle) integration among product design, manufacturing and operations specialists
Physicochemical Properties and Catalytic Behavior of the Molecular Sieve SSZ-70
SSZ-70 is synthesized using 1,3-bis(isobutyl)imidazolium, 1,3-bis(cyclohexyl)imidazolium, and 1,3-bis(cycloheptyl)imidazolium structure directing agents (SDAs), and the solids obtained are characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), ^(29)Si magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (MAS NMR), electron microscopy, nitrogen and hydrocarbon adsorption, and thermogravimetric analyses. The physicochemical properties of SSZ-70 show that it is a new molecular sieve that has similarities to MWW-type materials. The catalytic behavior of SSZ-70 is evaluated through the use of the constraint index (CI) test. Distinct differences in the reactivity between Al-SSZ-70 and SSZ-25 (MWW) are observed and are the consequences of the structural differences between these two molecular sieves
SIVALHIPPUS PTYCHODUS AND SIVALHIPPUS PLATYODUS (PERISSODACTYLA, MAMMALIA) FROM THE LATE MIOCENE OF CHINA
Herein, the authors report on skulls, mandibles and postcranial specimens of two species of Chinese Sivalhippus, S. ptychodus and S. platyodus. We frame our description and analyses within the context of newly described characters of the cheek teeth of Hippotherium from the Pannonian C of the Vienna Basin, the oldest and most primitive Old World hipparions. Our report includes original skull, mandibular and limited postcranial material of Sivalhippus ptychodus and skulls and dentitions of Sivalhippus platyodus from the Paleontological Museum of Uppsala (PMU, Uppsala, Sweden), the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH, New York, USA) and the Licent Collection in Tianjin Natural History Museum (Tianjin, China). The skull, maxillary and mandibular material we attribute to Sivalhippus ptychodus and Sivalhippus platyodus exhibit some primitive features for Old World hipparions and synapamorphies of the face and dentition that unite it with the Sivalhippus clade. Our analysis shows that S. ptychodus and S. platyodus differ significantly from the Cormohipparion occidentale â Hippotherium primigenium clade. Species belonging to the Sivalhippus clade are found in IndoPakistan (S. nagriensis, S. theobaldi, S. perimensis and S. anwari), Libya and Kenya (S. turkanensis) and Uganda (S. macrodon). We hypothesize that the Sivalhippus clade originated in South Asia where it is earliest represented by Sivalhipus nagriensis, ca. 10.4 Ma and underwent range extension into Africa and China circa 9-7 Ma
Depleted Energy Charge and Increased Pulmonary Endothelial Permeability Induced by Mitochondrial Complex I inhibition are Mitigated by Coenzyme Q\u3csub\u3e1\u3c/sub\u3e in the Isolated Perfused Rat Lung
Mitochondrial dysfunction is associated with various forms of lung injury and disease that also involve alterations in pulmonary endothelial permeability, but the relationship, if any, between the two is not well understood. This question was addressed by perfusing isolated intact rat lung with a buffered physiological saline solution in the absence or presence of the mitochondrial complex I inhibitor rotenone (20 ÎŒM). Compared to control, rotenone depressed whole lung tissue ATP from 5.66±0.46 (SEM) to 2.34±0.15 ”mol·gâ1 dry lung, with concomitant increases in the ADP:ATP and AMP:ATP ratios. Rotenone also increased lung perfusate lactate (from 12.36±1.64 to 38.62±3.14 ”mol·15 minâ1 perfusion·gâ1 dry lung) and the lactate:pyruvate ratio, but had no detectable impact on lung tissue GSH:GSSG redox status. The amphipathic quinone coenzyme Q1 (CoQ1; 50 ÎŒM) mitigated the impact of rotenone on the adenine nucleotide balance, wherein mitigation was blocked by NAD(P)H-quinone oxidoreductase 1 or mitochondrial complex III inhibitors. In separate studies, rotenone increased the pulmonary vascular endothelial filtration coefficient (Kf) from 0.043±0.010 to 0.156±0.037 ml·minâ1·cm H2Oâ1·gâ1 dry lung, and CoQ1 protected against the effect of rotenone on Kf. A second complex I inhibitor, piericidin A, qualitatively reproduced the impact of rotenone on Kf and the lactate:pyruvate ratio. Taken together, the observations imply that pulmonary endothelial barrier integrity depends on mitochondrial bioenergetics as reflected in lung tissue ATP levels and that compensatory activation of whole lung glycolysis cannot protect against pulmonary endothelial hyperpermeability in response to mitochondrial blockade. The study further suggests that low-molecular-weight amphipathic quinones may have therapeutic utility in protecting lung barrier function in mitochondrial insufficiency
