The Impact of Time Delay in a Tumor Model

    Get PDF
We consider a free boundary tumor growth model with a time delay in cell proliferation and study how time delay affects the stability and the size of the tumor. The model consists of a coupled system of an elliptic equation, a parabolic equation and an ordinary differential equation to describe the cell location under the presence of time delay, with the tumor boundary as a free boundary. A parameter ÎŒ\mu in the model is proportional to the “aggressiveness” of the tumor. It is proved that there exists a unique classical radially symmetric stationary solution (σ∗,p∗,R∗)(\sigma_*,p_*,R_*) which is stable for any ÎŒ3˘e0\mu\u3e0 with respect to all radially symmetric perturbations [S. Xu, Q. Zhou, and M. Bai, Qualitative analysis of a time-delayed free boundary problem for tumor growth under the action of external inhibitors]. However, under non-radially symmetric perturbations, we prove that there exists a critical number Ό∗\mu_* such that if ΌΌ∗\mu\mu_* then the stationary solution is unstable. It is actually unrealistic to expect the problem to be stable for large tumor aggressiveness parameter, therefore our result is more reasonable. Furthermore, it is also proved by the authors that adding the time delay in the model would result in a larger tumor, and if ÎŒ\mu is larger, then the time delay would have a greater impact on the size of the tumor

The arrival of Portuguese Navigators in Macau in the middle of the 16th century marked the start of almost five centuries of continuous contact between the Orient and Western Europe. Macau is often characterized as a meeting point of cultures, harmonious co-existence and intercultural exchange (particularly between Oriental and Portuguese culture). There is a wide range of publications about Macau, especially in the area of children ’ s literature. The aim of this dissertation is to carry out an in-depth analysis of a collection of stories for young adults written by Alice Vieira which include reference to the Orient. They contain representations of the Orient within the context of contemporary Portuguese children ’ s literature and reflect some of the most common depictions and significant symbols of the local culture

Research on the Integrated Development Mode of Pastoral Agriculture

As an emerging thing different from traditional agriculture, the pastoral complex covers a wide range. This paper mainly designs the agricultural landscape under the concept of the pastoral complex to create a more attractive park, attract more tourists to travel and consume here, develop the local economy, improve local income, and promote the implementation of the rural revitalization strategy in the local area. This paper combines theory with practice, broadens the application methods and theoretical framework of the design of rural complexes, has specific reference value for the research of the design of rural complexes, is conducive to the construction of rural landscapes and the protection of rural ecology, arouses people’s re-examination of the construction of rural landscape, and has specific theoretical and practical significance for the development of rural landscape and the implementation of rural revitalization strategy

Skin-inspired hydrogel–elastomer hybrids with robust interfaces and functional microstructures

nspired by mammalian skins, soft hybrids integrating the merits of elastomers and hydrogels have potential applications in diverse areas including stretchable and bio-integrated electronics, microfluidics, tissue engineering, soft robotics and biomedical devices. However, existing hydrogel–elastomer hybrids have limitations such as weak interfacial bonding, low robustness and difficulties in patterning microstructures. Here, we report a simple yet versatile method to assemble hydrogels and elastomers into hybrids with extremely robust interfaces (interfacial toughness over 1,000 Jm[superscript −2]) and functional microstructures such as microfluidic channels and electrical circuits. The proposed method is generally applicable to various types of tough hydrogels and diverse commonly used elastomers including polydimethylsiloxane Sylgard 184, polyurethane, latex, VHB and Ecoflex. We further demonstrate applications enabled by the robust and microstructured hydrogel–elastomer hybrids including anti-dehydration hydrogel–elastomer hybrids, stretchable and reactive hydrogel–elastomer microfluidics, and stretchable hydrogel circuit boards patterned on elastomer.United States. Fatigue crack propagation behavior of Ni-based superalloys after overloading at elevated temperatures

    Get PDF
AbstractThe fatigue crack propagation behavior of three superalloys subjected to a single overloading at elevated temperatures was investigated. The fatigue crack propagation rate FCPR versus stress intensity factor range data da/dN—ΔK were calculated using the two-point secant method. It was found that the crack growth rates of the investigated materials were retarded after overloading with an overload ratio ROL=1.6. The size of the plastic zone in the front of the crack tip and its relation to loading level were discussed. The overload retardation effects are attributed to crack closure. The fatigue damage in the plastic zone can also be a factor to explain the overload retardation

RCLane: Relay Chain Prediction for Lane Detection

Lane detection is an important component of many real-world autonomous systems. Despite a wide variety of lane detection approaches have been proposed, reporting steady benchmark improvements over time, lane detection remains a largely unsolved problem. This is because most of the existing lane detection methods either treat the lane detection as a dense prediction or a detection task, few of them consider the unique topologies (Y-shape, Fork-shape, nearly horizontal lane) of the lane markers, which leads to sub-optimal solution. In this paper, we present a new method for lane detection based on relay chain prediction. Specifically, our model predicts a segmentation map to classify the foreground and background region. For each pixel point in the foreground region, we go through the forward branch and backward branch to recover the whole lane. Each branch decodes a transfer map and a distance map to produce the direction moving to the next point, and how many steps to progressively predict a relay station (next point). As such, our model is able to capture the keypoints along the lanes. Despite its simplicity, our strategy allows us to establish new state-of-the-art on four major benchmarks including TuSimple, CULane, CurveLanes and LLAMAS.Comment: ECCV 202
