    Material flows and energy flows can be correlated with sufficient data, e.g. on production energies, annual production quantities and degrees of dissipation with temperature increases in the atmosphere, volumes of molten ice or sea level increases, as well as with probability statements, information densities and management recommendations. All these quantities can be described by the comprehensive term entropy. In order to consider the efficiency of material and energy flows, the difficulty to understand the concept of entropy with its different definitions can be summarized simply and easily in a model related to ice cubes. The quality of a model containing percentage probability statements, statements on dissipation in material flow models in connection with statements on information density and its description by the ice cube model is still to be determined in practice in suitable material flow models. Such projects should show the types of mathematical correlations between dissipation degrees, entropy increase, increase of molten ice and sea level rise

    Razvoj računalnog upravljačkog sustava za višedjelni fluorescentni detektor

    A new control system for fluorescence and EXAFS studies has been developed consisting of germanium detectors and digital signal processor electronics. Using a standard PC and a new software package leads to a high flexibility regarding application, user interface and use of different synchrotron facilities. The new system achieves spectra with considerably higher quality when compared to a traditional system for fluorescence and EXAFS studies. This allows the investigation of thin films and diluted systems as shown by experiments on a W/Nb multilayer system and on FeS2 doped with Zn.Razvili smo upravljački sustav za proučavanje fluorescencije i EXAFS koji se sastoji od germanijskih detektora i signalne digitalne procesorske elektronike. Primjenom standardnog osobnog računala i novog programskog paketa, postigli smo veliku prilagodljivost u primjenama, s međujedinicama i za različite sinkrotronske postave. Nov sustav postiže znatno bolje spektre u usporedbi s uobičajenim sustavima za proučavanje fluorescencije i EXAFS. Tako su moguća istraživanja tankih slojeva i razrijeđenih otopina, kako pokazujemo s višeslojnim W/Nb i sa Zn-punjenim FeS2

    Morning transition case between the land and the sea breeze regimes

    An experimental field campaign took place in September 2013 near the coastline in the southeastern Campos basin in the island of Mallorca to characterize experimentally the transition between the sea and land breezes and to further study the successful cases with the corresponding high-resolution numerical simulations. Favorable weather conditions were only found for one episode that comprised a well formed nocturnal land breeze, followed by the morning transition to sea-breeze until noon the next day, when incoming clouds switched off the breeze regime. To analyse this transition between land and sea breezes the official network of stations is used, supplemented by a portable station close to the shore and soundings of temperature (taken by a captive balloon and remotely controlled multicopter). These data are used to check the goodness of the corresponding simulation at a horizontal resolution of 1 km. Model and observations see similarly both regimes and the transition, showing some differences in the timing and the details in the surface layer. This transient event is analyzed in terms of phases, going consecutively through land-breeze, phase previous to the sea breeze, when land heating starts but it is still colder than the sea, the preparatory phase when the land becomes warmer than the sea, and the development phase when the breeze front progresses inland.This work was funded through the projects CGL2009-12797-C03-01 and CGL2012-37416-C04-01 of the Spanish Government, supplied by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER

    Einsatz eines Audience-Response-Systems für die Wiederholungsphase von Vorlesungen

    Für die Wiederholungsphase in mehreren Vorlesungsveranstaltungen wird der Einsatz eines Audience-Response-Systems als spezifische anonyme Form des e-Assessments beschrieben. Der Artikel stellt die Umsetzung sowie die Bewertung dieses Ansatzes aus Sicht der Studierenden und des Lehrenden dar. Der Aufwand zur Erstellung der Fragen wird dabei vergleichsweise niedrig gehalten. Trotzdem sind Verständnisdefizite bei den Studierenden schnell identifizierbar. Die Studierenden bewerten diese Form der aktiven, jedoch anonymen Selbstbewertung als sehr positiv. Die hohe Teilnahmequote der Studierenden steht für eine gelungene Aktivierung der Studierenden, die zusammen mit der bedarfsgesteuerten Wiederholung ein positives Bild der einfach zu implementierenden Methode zeichnet.
