Asymptotic stability equals exponential stability, and ISS equals finite energy gain---if you twist your eyes
In this paper we show that uniformly global asymptotic stability for a family
of ordinary differential equations is equivalent to uniformly global
exponential stability under a suitable nonlinear change of variables. The same
is shown for input-to-state stability and input-to-state exponential stability,
and for input-to-state exponential stability and a nonlinear

Comment to "Observation of the neutron radiative decay" by R.U. Khafizov et al., published in JETP Letters 83 (2006) 5 (Pis'ma v ZhETF 83 (2006) 7)
The commented manuscript was submitted for publication without informing at
least four of the other authors, viz. N. Severijns, O. Zimmer, H.-F. Wirth and
D. Rich. This violates our rights as collaborators. The analysis presented and
the manuscript itself have not been discussed and have also not been approved
by the entire collaboration prior to submission. Besides this formal
incorrectness, we also criticise the content of the paper
Calculating glass-forming ability in absence of key kinetic and thermodynamic parameters
Glass-forming ability (GFA) as defined by a critical cooling rate R_c to vitrify a liquid upon solidification is a complex function of many parameters. Some of the parameters, such as liquid-crystal interfacial energy, temperature-dependent liquid viscosity, and influence of heterogeneities, are crucial but their accurate experimental determination is challenging. Here, instead of relying on the experimental data, we draw random values for the difficult parameters and use the classical theory to examine probabilistic distributions of Rc for two well-known metallic glasses. Direct random parameterization produces extremely broad distributions spanning tens of orders of magnitude. Dramatically sharpened distributions are obtained around experimental R_c upon guiding the random parameterization with limited calorimetric data. The results suggest that it is plausible to determine GFA even in absence of data for crucial parameters
No-Core Shell Model for Nuclear Systems with Strangeness
We report on a novel ab initio approach for nuclear few- and many-body
systems with strangeness. Recently, we developed a relevant no-core shell model
technique which we successfully applied in first calculations of lightest
hypernuclei. The use of a translationally invariant finite harmonic
oscillator basis allows us to employ large model spaces, compared to
traditional shell model calculations, and use realistic nucleon-nucleon and
nucleon-hyperon interactions (such as those derived from EFT). We discuss
formal aspects of the methodology, show first demonstrative results for

Ecological Observations on Predatory Coccinellidae (Coleoptera) in Southwestern Michigan
Ecological observations on habitat utilization by thirteen species of predatory Coccinellidae were made at a southern Michigan site during 1989 and 1990. Most of species were common during both years and used both agricul- tural and uncultivated habitats. Coccinella septempunctata and Coleomegilla maculata, were the most abundant in agricultural crops (alfalfa, maize, soy- bean and triticale), whereas Adalia bipunctata and Cycloneda munda, were the most abundant in deciduous and bushy habitats
A Search for X-Ray Bright Distant Clusters of Galaxies
We present the results of a search for X--ray luminous distant clusters of
galaxies. We found extended X--ray emission characteristic of a cluster towards
two of our candidate clusters of galaxies. They both have a luminosity in the
ROSAT bandpass of and a redshift of ;
thus making them two of the most distant X--ray clusters ever observed.
Furthermore, we show that both clusters are optically rich and have a known
radio source associated with them. We compare our result with other recent
searches for distant X--ray luminous clusters and present a lower limit of
for the number density of such high redshift
clusters. This limit is consistent with the expected abundance of such clusters
in a standard (b=2) Cold Dark Matter Universe. Finally, our clusters provide
important high redshift targets for further study into the origin and evolution
of massive clusters of galaxies. Accepted for publication in the 10th September

On the Nature of the Strong Emission-Line Galaxies in Cluster Cl 0024+1654: Are Some the Progenitors of Low Mass Spheroidals?
We present new size, line ratio, and velocity width measurements for six
strong emission-line galaxies in the galaxy cluster, Cl 0024+1654, at redshift
z~0.4. The velocity widths from Keck spectra are all narrow (30<sigma<120
km/s), with three profiles showing double peaks. Four galaxies have low masses
(M<10^{10} Mo). Whereas three galaxies were previously reported to be possible
AGNs, none exhibit AGN-like emission line ratios or velocity widths. Two or
three appear as very blue spirals with the remainder more akin to luminous H-II
galaxies undergoing a strong burst of star formation. We propose that after the
burst subsides, these galaxies will transform into quiescent dwarfs, and are
thus progenitors of some cluster spheroidals (We adopt the nomenclature
suggested by Kormendy & Bender (1994), i.e., low-density, dwarf ellipsoidal
galaxies like NGC 205 are called `spheroidals' instead of `dwarf ellipticals')
