Properties of KCoAs and Alloys with Fe and Ru: Density Functional Calculations
Electronic structure calculations are presented for KCoAs and alloys
with KFeAs and KRuAs. These materials show electronic
structures characteristic of coherent alloys, with a similar Fermi surface
structure to that of the Fe-based superconductors, when the electron count
is near six per transition metal. However, they are less magnetic than the
corresponding Fe compounds. These results are discussed in relation to
superconductivity.Comment: 5 page
Collisional stability of a three-component degenerate Fermi gas
We report on the creation of a degenerate Fermi gas consisting of a balanced
mixture of atoms in three different hyperfine states of Li. This new system
consists of three distinguishable Fermions with different and tunable
interparticle scattering lengths , and . We are able
to prepare samples containing atoms in each state at a
temperature of about nK, which corresponds to . We
investigated the collisional stability of the gas for magnetic fields between 0
and 600 G and found a prominent loss feature at 130 G. From lifetime
measurements we determined three-body loss coefficients, which vary over nearly
three orders of magnitude
In vivo potassium MRI of the human heart
PURPOSE: Potassium ions (K(+)) play a critical role in cardiac electrophysiology, and changes in their concentration reflect pathophysiological processes related to cardiovascular diseases. Here, we investigated the feasibility of in vivo (39)K MRI of the human heart. To achieve this, we developed, evaluated, and applied a (39)K/(1)H RF coil, which is tailored for (39)K MRI of human heart at 7.0T. METHODS: The performance of the (39)K/(1)H RF coil was evaluated by electromagnetic field and specific absorption ratio simulations using 2 (male/female) human voxel models. The RF coil was evaluated at the bench and applied in an in vivo proof-of-principle study involving 7 healthy volunteers. The experiments were performed using a 7.0T whole-body MR system in conjunction with a 3D density-adapted projection reconstruction imaging technique. RESULTS: For in vivo (39)K MRI of the human heart, a nominal spatial resolution of 14.5 × 14.5 × 14.5 mm(3) within a total scan time of 30 min was achieved. The average SNR within the heart was 9.6 ± 2.4. CONCLUSION: This work validates the design of a (39)K/(1)H RF coil for cardiac MR at 7.0T and demonstrates for the first time in vivo the feasibility of (39)K MRI of the human heart
The occurrence of ansamers in the synthesis of cyclic peptides
α-Amanitin is a bicyclic octapeptide composed of a macrolactam with a tryptathionine cross-link forming a handle. Previously, the occurrence of isomers of amanitin, termed atropisomers has been postulated. Although the total synthesis of α-amanitin has been accomplished this aspect still remains unsolved. We perform the synthesis of amanitin analogs, accompanied by in-depth spectroscopic, crystallographic and molecular dynamics studies. The data unambiguously confirms the synthesis of two amatoxin-type isomers, for which we propose the term ansamers. The natural structure of the P-ansamer can be ansa-selectively synthesized using an optimized synthetic strategy. We believe that the here described terminology does also have implications for many other peptide structures, e.g. norbornapeptides, lasso peptides, tryptorubins and others, and helps to unambiguously describe conformational isomerism of cyclic peptides
