Drought effects on wheat cultivars using trickle irrigation
Trial 74M32 - The trial was aimed at - 1. Looking for cultivar differences in drought tolerance: particularly involving Gamenya and Insignia. 2. Considering trickle irrigation as a means of controlled water application. Four cultivars were sown at the end of July in salmon gum soil at Merredin. Drought effects on four wheat cultivars in controlled environment Trial 74GL8 - This work was aimed at assessing the performance of the cultivars Gamenya, Gambee, Darkan and Insignia under controlled moisture stress
1975 Drought responses of wheat cultivars - environment responses of subterranean clover.
Environment responses of subterranean clover. Aim - To clarify the responses of four cultivars to temperature, vernalisation and photoperiod. Method - Dinninup, Midland B, Geraldton and Blackwood sub clover was grown in phytotron cabinets under 14 hour and 10 hour photoperiods and temperatures 10°c day/5°c night, l5/l0°c, 20/l5°C, 25/20°c. A seed vernalisation treatment of 6 weeks refrigeration of swelled seed was included. Dissections were made to observe first floral initiation and first flower production was noted. Conclusions - Higher temperatures either had no effect or delayed floral initiation, but accelerated flower development greatly from initiation to anthesis. Photoperiod and vernalisation responses were in floral initiation with little evidence of subsequent effects
Online learning : towards enabling choice
Education is rapidly evolving from an opportunity that was provided mainly for an elite to one that is available to a mass markets and as such is prone to the forces generated by this environment. Where, in the established pattern, commercial interest was limited mainly to the use of skills developed during the educational process, the future model of educational provision will involve extensive commercial activity in the production, delivery and marketing of material. Already there are a number of commercial companies offering framework products enabling "off the shelf solutions" for the construction and delivery of web based courses in any subject area. The commercialisation of education is underway and it is inevitable that it will be viewed, by entrepreneurs and customers alike, as any other commercial product. It would seem reasonable that the consumer should be able to evaluate the performance of these new modes of working in a similar manner to other commercial products. This paper draws together current thinking on the problems associated with evaluating computer and communication based learning

The suppression of magnetism and the development of superconductivity within the collapsed tetragonal phase of Ca0.67Sr0.33Fe2As2 at high pressure
Structural and electronic characterization of (Ca0.67Sr0.33)Fe2As2 has been
performed as a func- tion of pressure up to 12 GPa using conventional and
designer diamond anvil cells. The compound (Ca0.67Sr0.33)Fe2As2 behaves
intermediate between its end members-CaFe2As2 and SrFe2As2- displaying a
suppression of magnetism and the onset of superconductivity. Like other members
of the AEFe2As2 family, (Ca0.67Sr0.33)Fe2As2 undergoes a pressure-induced
isostructural volume collapse, which we associate with the development of As-As
bonding across the mirror plane of the structure. This collapsed tetragonal
phase abruptly cuts off the magnetic state, giving rise to superconductivity
with a maximum Tc=22.2 K. The maximum Tc of the superconducting phase is not
strongly correlated with any structural parameter, but its proximity to the
abrupt suppression of magnetism as well as the volume collapse transition
suggests that magnetic interactions and structural inhomogeneity may play a
role in its development. The pressure-dependent evolution of the ordered states
and crystal structures in (Ca,Sr)Fe2As2 provides an avenue to understand the
generic behavior of the other members of the AEFe2As2 family.Comment: 9 pages, 9 figure
Impact and Implementation of an Early Years Fundamental Motor Skills Intervention for Children 4–5 Years
Fundamental motor skills (FMS) are the cornerstone of a child’s motor development, but concerns remain on the current level of FMS competencies, and intervention is required. This evaluation investigated if a targeted Early Years FMS intervention, delivered by a specialist physical education (PE) provider, improved the FMS of 4–5-year-old children across multiple sites. Methods: The Early Years FMS intervention ran for 18 weeks, 1 h/week, using a standardised programme of activities to develop FMS competencies across 219 children from 15 schools in the Midlands, UK. An adapted assessment was employed as a measure of FMS, assessing locomotor, object control, and stability skills at weeks 1, 9, and 18. The FMS were each rated as green = competent, amber = working towards, or red = not meeting the standards of the skill. A description of key programme implementation characteristics was described. Findings: Statistically significant increases in FMS competencies were achieved for 80% of participants at 18 weeks. Key implementation characteristics for the intervention included consistent staffing, a standardised programme, and a variety of pedagogical approaches delivered by specialist PE staff. Conclusion: This evaluation provided important insights into the effectiveness and implementation of the Early Years FMS intervention to improve FMS competencies in children aged 4–5 years
Soliton form factors from lattice simulations
The form factor provides a convenient way to describe properties of
topological solitons in the full quantum theory, when semiclassical concepts
are not applicable. It is demonstrated that the form factor can be calculated
numerically using lattice Monte Carlo simulations. The approach is very general
and can be applied to essentially any type of soliton. The technique is
illustrated by calculating the kink form factor near the critical point in
1+1-dimensional scalar field theory. As expected from universality arguments,
the result agrees with the exactly calculable scaling form factor of the
two-dimensional Ising model.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures; v2: discussion extended, references added,

Infrared observations of the gravitational lens system B1422 + 231
Images of the multiple-component radio source B1422 + 231 at 2.2 μm show the structure of this source to be essentially the same at radio and infrared frequencies. The most natural explanation for this achromatic structure is gravitational lensing
