An updated, corrected, and extended machine readable version of the catalog is described. Published and unpublished errors discovered in the previous version were corrected, and multiple star and supplemental BD identifications were added to stars where more than one SAO entry has the same Durchmusterung number. Henry Draper Extension (HDE) numbers were added for stars found in both volumes of the extension. Data for duplicate SAO entries (those referring to the same star) were flagged. J2000 positions in usual units and in radians were added

The purpose of this study was to investigate the perceptions of public school administrators in the Macomb County, Michigan region toward professional development training offered them through the Macomb Intermediate School District (MISD) Management Academy training program, as compared to other training programs attended outside of the MISD Management Academy. A survey was developed to ascertain if there was a relationship between attendance in the programs and advancement in their administrative career; to compare the benefit of effective training and learning opportunities between MISD and other programs, and, to analyze the demographic data related to program participants. The population of the study consisted of 222 public school administrators who participated in the MISD Management Academy training program between 1986 and 1996. The sample received for the study totaled 76 participants, making a survey return of 34 percent. Respondents included 54 percent female and 46 percent male administrators; over 52 percent held doctorate or specialist degrees; 60 percent spent six to fifteen years as an administrator; and, 43 percent were serving as building principals at the time of the survey. The findings of the study revealed that participants in the MISD Management Academy Training program rated the effectiveness of the program and the learning environment in which the program was held as very favorable on a five-point Likert scale. Additional findings of the study included: 1. Over one-third of the administrators rated the skills they had learned in the MISD Academy programs as having a moderate to great effect on getting a job upgrade. 2. Tests indicated that there was not a significant difference between levels of satisfaction with MISD training programs and outside training programs. 3. Components of effective training programs can not be predicted from administrators\u27 demographic characteristics

Exploring Medical Student Experiences of Ethical Issues and Professionalism in Australian General Practice

Student experiences of ethics and professionalism during clinical placements have a powerful influence on their future attitudes and behaviour. International literature in this area has focused predominantly on hospital placement experiences, and relied heavily on analyses of graded student essays. This study aims to explore the medical student lens on ethics and professionalism in the primary care setting, using a different method of data collection.During weekly tutorials medical students recounted, and reflected on, their general practice placement experiences. Tutors logged the ethical and professional practice issues raised by 43 students over 76 hours of tutorial time. The logs were submitted to a qualitative content analysis from which major themes emerged: mixed messages; uncertainty about professional roles; and a ‘medical student predicament’ (including unsettled boundaries, emotions and personal health concerns).Findings suggest that the extent of compromise in general practice may challenge student expectations. Students may perceive that their clinical teacher is out of step with previous teaching, especially in areas that are considered ethically grey by their teachers. Students may need support to maintain professional boundaries and personal precautions. Clinical teachers should consider exploring common ethical issues like confidentiality, writing medical certificates, professional boundaries and affordability of health care in contexts which are relevant to students. Medical students are interested in the limits and scope of professional roles. These findings provide insights for general practitioner and other practice-based clinical teachers to reflect on their ethics and professionalism teaching, mentoring and role-modelling
