Chitown Loves YouHip Hop’s Alternative Spatializing Narratives and Activism to Trump’s HatefulCampaign Rhetoric About Chicago
Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign rhetoric about violence in Chicago spatialized a narrative that branded the city as the poster child of urban disarray. His bombast lacked any contextual understanding of the issue and offered no productive pathways for collective solutions. Alternatively, I argue in this paper that a rising collection of Chicago hip hop artists were producing musical discourses in 2016 that not only challenged Trump’s negative rants, but also spatialized a multilayered narrative of the intersections between hip hop and activism in the city. Through textual analysis of three tracks from three breakout artists in 2016, my goal is to show how hip hop enables audiences to imagine Chicago’s 1) structural resistance to violence in the city’s communities of color, 2) a sense of place and belonging among the city’s youth, and 3) a loving and unapologetic “black liberation” lens to social movements in the city
Chinatown Anti-Displacement Community Research Project Report
The Greater Chinatown area in Chicago (see Figure 1 for map) is rapidly changing because of recent public and private investments. The area continues to attract great interest by developers because of its proximity to downtown, public transportation rail infrastructure, bicycle shares, and its vibrant ethnic culture. Consequentially, Greater Chinatown’s popular real estate market creates concerns about the implications of gentrification (economic and cultural) and potential displacement of existing communities. Community advocates, policymakers, and scholars nationwide point to the displacement in lower-income and ethnic communities resulting from urban revitalization. In particular, Chinatowns across the nation have become part of the public discourse when discussing gentrification and fights against displacement. This is evidenced in the last few years by media outlets, such as the Chicago Tribune, L.A. Times, New York Times, City Labs, Next City, New York Magazine, BuzzFeed, Hyperallegic, amongst others, all reporting concerns about gentrification in Chinatowns
Is vaping a low-risk substitute for cigarettes or an emerging epidemic?
In deciding how to regulate vaping and its advertising, policymakers face a conundrum due to the competing priorities of attracting long-term smokers to less harmful products and of preventing children and young people from taking up vaping. George Gaskell and Francisco Lupianez-Villanueva look at research findings that seek to determine the broader impact of vaping in the future

by SARS-CoV-2. The changes found at the placental level resulted in various
complications in pregnant women, for which more histopathological investigation
is necessary to adequately direct the management of pregnant womenTesi

Communication Asset Mapping: An Ecological Field Application Toward Building Healthy Communities
Guided by an integrated theoretical approach combining communication infrastructure theory with methods of assets-oriented community field mapping, this study reports the findings of an engaged scholarship project we term communication asset mapping (CAM). Ecological in orientation and participatory in practice, CAM represents a tool for analyzing urban spaces’ potential as mediums for building healthy communities. This article offers two case studies from different low-income neighborhoods in Los Angeles, the first a researcher-directed CAM application and the second undertaken in collaboration with community health promotion workers. Both offer insights for researchers and practitioners interested in the intersecting roles of communication and place in creating positive community change
