Internationalization strategies of companies in the wine industry in Portugal – context, forms of action and performance.
This research project aims to analyze the competitive environment of companies in the wine sector in Portugal and assess the implications in the development of contingent strategic guidelines and different performances.Proposes to apply the methodological framework the IKST – Integrated Key for Strategic Thought for international expansion. The research was carried out at two levels: at a preliminary level – a general characterisation was made of the companies as to their resources, and at a central level – the examination of the strategic aspect of the companies was carried out. The research involved the collection of primary data (survey of 164 companies in the sector) and secondary data (from documentary nature). Explores the strategic aspect, analyzing the sector in terms of global and national context, in order to design a diagnostic context of action, using the models of PEST and 5 Forces. Identifies, based on various statistical techniques, the adopted style of strategic thought and the profile in terms of contextual variables, as well as the underlying economic performance

GLOBAL COMPETITIVE DYNAMICS AND INNOVATION IN THE BRAZILIAN WINE SECTOR: An analysis of Vale do São Francisco pole
The wine sector is currently facing a transformation all over the world. Facing a surplus, it rebuilds itself. In Brazil, firms assist to the decline of their market share (but reflecting a tendency to protectionism) to imported wines although per capita consumption begins to overcome discreetly an historical stagnation with perspectives of sustainable growth. Thus, it is of utmost importance to look for new capabilities in order to achieve greater integration in a globally fragmented market and with low attractiveness rates. The wine pole of Vale do São Francisco (VSF), though emergent, already needs to find a new strategic innovative positioning. However, it reveals some innovative features. This study has as its main objectives (a) to analyze the strategic and innovative adaptations of local firms; (b) to propose innovative additional lines of strategic action; and (c) to perspective their success possibilities in the new globalized competitive environment. Globalized and fragmented, the wine production sector reconfigures itself. The New World Wine Producers innovate in wine sector management by means of industrial production logics. Brazil faces the challenge of reaching a wider global insertion. The emerging pole of Vale do São Francisco, through a comparative and exploratory multiple case study (2006 to 2010), shows an evolutionary phenomenology with some innovative features. ESTRATÉGIAS DE INTERNACIONALIZAÇÃO: CONTEXTO, ACTUAÇÃO E PERFORMANCE DAS EMPRESAS DE VINHOS PORTUGUESAS
O presente trabalho de investigação visa analisar o contexto competitivo das empresas do sector vitivinÃcola e avaliar as implicações no desenvolvimento de orientações estratégicas contingentes e performances diversas. Propõe a aplicação do referencial metodológico Grelha Integrada de Reflexão Estratégica adaptada a um contexto de internacionalização - GIRE(i), estruturando a pesquisa em dois nÃveis, um preliminar, de caracterização genérica das empresas, e outro central, de análise da sua vertente estratégica. A pesquisa implicou a recolha de dados primários (questionário aos empresários do sector) e secundários (de natureza documental). Explora a vertente estratégica, analisando o contexto do sector em termos mundiais e nacionais, de forma a desenhar um diagnóstico do seu contexto de acção, recorrendo aos modelos PEST e Modelo das 5 Forças. Identifica, com base em diversas técnicas estatÃsticas, os tipos de reflexão estratégica adoptados e o seu perfil em termos de variáveis contextuais, assim como as performances económicas subjacentes
GLOBAL MARKET, GLOBAL STRATEGIC REFLECTION? A STRATEGIC APPROACH METHODOLOGY
The aim of this study is to analyse the internationalization strategies of Portuguese wine companies, considering their context factors, reflection style and performance. It intends to develop a review of the literature in the scope of the theories and strategies of internationalisation, complemented by systematic research within the sector, as part of business strategies. It proposes applying the methodological reference Integrated Grid for Strategic Reflection - GIRE(i), adapted to a context of international business, which structures research into two levels: a preliminary one, generic characterisation of the companies; along with a central one analysing its strategic strand. The empirical study, based on primary data (survey to the sector entrepreneurs) and on secondary documentary data, by applying multivariate statistical techniques, allowed the identification of strategic thinking styles based on the growth of a rather diverse external presence. Drawn on the qualitative (contextual and transactional) analysis it suggests guidelines for strategic action

O setor do vinho está atualmente a enfrentar transformações mundiais.
Está-se reconstruindo. No Brasil, as empresas assistem ao declÃnio de seus market-share (mas refletindo uma tendência ao protecionismo) para os vinhos importados, enquanto o consumo per capita continua a superar discretamente uma estagnação histórica com perspectivas de
crescimento sustentável. Assim, é de extrema importância olhar para novas capacidades, a fim de alcançar uma maior integração num mercado fragmentado globalmente e com baixas taxas de
atratividade. O pólo de vinhos do Vale do São Francisco (VSF), embora emergente, já precisa encontrar um posicionamento estratégico inovador. No entanto, ele já revela algumas caracterÃsticas
inovadoras. Este estudo tem como principais objetivos (a) analisar as adaptações estratégicas e inovadoras das empresas locais; (b) propor linhas adicionais inovadoras de ação estratégica; e (c) mostrar as suas possibilidades de sucesso no novo ambiente competitivo globalizado. O posicionamento metodológico é estabelecido através do estudo de vários casos exploratórios

The empirical study, supported on primary data (questionnaire) and secondary in nature documentary and by applying multivariate statistical techniques, allowed the identification of strategic thinking styles based on the presence of external growth but widely dispersed. This work intends to analyze the role played by D. José Botelho de Matos as
archbishop of Bahia in between 1741 and 1759, focusing on State-Church relations. Regarded
deep interventions by the State, we seek to understand how could the archbishop build this
episcopacy, what were his priorities and how he dealt politically with the challenges raised

Matos compôs sua ação episcopal, quais foram as suas prioridades, qual a natureza de seus
