Coupled buckling design of steel laced columns

A new design method developed by the authors that gives an opportunity to account for the interaction of different modes of buckling is presented. Eurocode 3 model is used as the reference model. In the reference model, an equivalent geometric imperfection comprising of an initial bow being equal to the length divided by 500 is used. The model is based on the design criterion referred to the individual chord components. It allows to avoid the application of a complicated procedure based on an explicitly given imperfection parameter. It is achieved by a treatment of the chord local buckling mode between lacing connections in the same way as the plate buckling of chord sectional elements. The buckling design of the compound member can therefore be carried out in the same way as for a single element provided that the shear stiffness of lacing members is properly taken care of.Keywords: Laced column, coupled buckling, design concept, implicit imperfection parameter mode

A Simplified Model of an Offset Ram Press for Sunflower Oil Expression

This paper presents the theoretical analysis of a simplified model of a ram press. The design of the ram press is based on the classical slider-crank mechanism. A force analysis of the press was performed for several successive positions of the driving lever (handle) and for a range of values of certain dimensionless parameters that influence the performance of this mechanism. Because the ram press is a low speed machine, static analysis was employed, and the equations governing its equilibrium were deduced. Conclusions as to improved machine performance were drawn from an analysis of the mechanical advantage, velocity ratio, efficiency and transmission angle that are deduced for the range of possible lever angles and offset ratios. KEYWORDS: ram press, slider-crank mechanism, static analysis, offset, oil extractione (Af. J. of Science and Technology: 2002 3(1): 62-69

Research on the selected population of students with a standardized questionnaire method concerning the use of IT technologies has been carried out since 2008/09. Results for the data from the first and the last year of research (2009 and 2016) for agricultural students were compared. It was reported that students use IT technologies in the process of learning. Majority of students - 94% (2009) and 98% (2016) positively assessed the usefulness of these technologies in the learning process. The Internet was used mainly for communication (respectively in the investigated years 82.5% and 99.1%). Usefulness of the Internet in the process of studying was marked very high - in 2009 it was 51% positive answers and in 2016 - 77%.Badania na wybranej populacji student贸w metod膮 wywiadu standaryzowanego dotycz膮ce wykorzystania technologii informacyjnych prowadzono od roku akademickiego 2008/09.
