Comparison of different optimization and process control procedures

    Get PDF
This paper includes a comparison of different optimization methods, used for optimizing the cutting conditions during milling. It includes also a part of using soft computer techniques in process control procedures. Milling is a cutting procedure dependent of a number of variables. These variables are dependent from each other in consequence, if we change one variable, the others change too. PSO and GA algorithm are applied to the CNC milling program to improve cutting conditions, improve end finishing, reduce tool wear and reduce the stress on the tool, the machine and the machined part. At the end a summary will be given of pasted and future researches.Peer Reviewe

Platform for Monitoring and Comparing Machining Processes in Terms of Energy Efficiency

This paper presents a smart energy consumption monitoring platform for machining processes with a unique electrical energy consumption indicator (EECI) for the evaluation and comparison of machining processes in terms of energy efficiency. The purpose of the developed smart monitoring platform with the integrated EECI and the Industry 4.0 digital technologies is to raise the level of efficiency of the machining process and thus to stimulate more sustainable and environmentally friendly machining. The energy consumption monitoring of a milling process is performed by connecting a machine tool with integrated sensors for measuring electrical power and cutting force to a cloud platform by using resources for signal acquiring and data acquisition. The platform includes applications for energy consumption monitoring and/or analysis. Results of four machining experiments are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed energy consumption monitoring in machining and the applicability of the newly introduced EECI at the engineering and the operational level

Turning is one of the most common metal cutting procedures used. To optimize such a cutting process, some adaptations must be made. Implementing tool wear conditioning and the use of dry cutting can significantly lower the production cost. This research focuses on the cost effectiveness of using dry cutting in comparison with the use of cutting fluids and the use of different tool geometry. A series of tests was conducted and in the end the results are given

This paper presents a new methodology for continual improvement of cutting conditions with GA (Genetic Algorithms). It performs the following: the modification of recommended cutting conditions obtained from a machining data, learning of obtained cutting conditions using neural networks and the substitution of better cutting conditions for those learned previously by a proposed GA. Operators usually select the machining parameters according to handbooks or their experience, and the selected machining parameters are usually conservative to avoid machining failure. Compared to traditional optimisation methods, a GA is robust, global and may be applied generally without recourse to domain-specific heuristics. Experimental results show that the proposed genetic algorithm-based procedure for solving the optimization problem is both effective and efficient, and can be integrated into an intelligent manufacturing system for solving complex machining optimization problem
