Patient knowledge about disease self-management of cirrhosis

    Get PDF
This study aimed to define the level of understanding of self-management for patients with liver cirrhosis. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted. Thirty cirrhotic patients (14 females and 16 males) in the Gastroenterology Department of University Medical Center, Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam participated in answering the questionnaire to evaluate their knowledge about liver disease self-management. The majority of cirrhotic patients had an unsatisfactory level of knowledge regarding self management of their disease, particularly in terms of recognizing and preventing complications from hepatic encephalopathy, monitoring for liver cancer, and awareness of medications they should not use. Implications of the study for nursing practice would be to enhance the quality of patient knowledge about self-management disease in the setting and in Vietnam by providing a specialized guideline handbook for each patient with important terms about cirrhosis, self-care information, and ways to prevent and minimize the complications of cirrhosis. Further research with larger samples regarding self-management knowledge and effective ways to better prepare cirrhosis patients for self-care is needed to improve the education for these patients

For vocal subjects, practices are not inevitable. Human voice is a special instrument that can convey the most simply and subtly to the listeners. The vocal is also widely popular because anyone can sing; however, in order to sing well and gain delights from the audience, it requires the singer to have the training to go along with the vocal development. Because vocal training as well as the creativity in singing style of each singer will support various songs become more fascinating. Therefore, in term of professional vocal training, vocal teachers must understand the characteristics, environment, objects, training needs, master the rules and the process of forming aesthetic cognitive thinking as well as perceive abilities, forte in creating and performing vocal of students; as a result, teachers become mentors to teach a solid foundation for students to develop their talents in the right direction without imposing which lead to lose personality and nuance their own

    Diabetes Type 2 Management

Diabetes is a complex and chronic disease. Patients with diabetes may suffer complications such as microvascular and macrovascular diseases [1]. In 2018, the prevalence of diabetes was estimated to affect 34.2 million people, or 10.5% of the US population [2]. About 1 in 10 adults in Georgia has diabetes, a health condition that can be prevented with weight loss and lifestyle changes [3]. In 2018, diabetes-related emergencies accounted for 17 million emergency room visits, with 248,000 for hyperglycemia and 242,000 for hypoglycemia [4]. The purpose of this study was to implement a personalized, clinic-based diabetes management program with healthy lifestyles, reduce hemoglobin A1c, and prevent diabetic complications.https://jagworks.southalabama.edu/scholarsday2023_spring-posters/1005/thumbnail.jp

Multimodal machine learning in medical screenings

    Get PDF
The healthcare industry, with its high demand and standards, has long been considered a crucial area for technology-based innovation. However, the medical field often relies on experience-based evaluation. Limited resources, overloading capacity, and a lack of accessibility can hinder timely medical care and diagnosis delivery. In light of these challenges, automated medical screening as a decision-making aid is highly recommended. With the increasing availability of data and the need to explore the complementary effect among modalities, multimodal machine learning has emerged as a potential area of technology. Its impact has been witnessed across a wide range of domains, prompting the question of how far machine learning can be leveraged to automate processes in even more complex and high-risk sectors. This paper delves into the realm of multimodal machine learning in the field of automated medical screening and evaluates the potential of this area of study in mental disorder detection, a highly important area of healthcare. First, we conduct a scoping review targeted at high-impact papers to highlight the trends and directions of multimodal machine learning in screening prevalent mental disorders such as depression, stress, and bipolar disorder. The review provides a comprehensive list of popular datasets and extensively studied modalities. The review also proposes an end-to-end pipeline for multimodal machine learning applications, covering essential steps from preprocessing, representation, and fusion, to modelling and evaluation. While cross-modality interaction has been considered a promising factor to leverage fusion among multimodalities, the number of existing multimodal fusion methods employing this mechanism is rather limited. This study investigates multimodal fusion in more detail through the proposal of Autofusion, an autoencoder-infused fusion technique that harnesses the cross-modality interaction among different modalities. The technique is evaluated on DementiaBank’s Pitt corpus to detect Alzheimer’s disease, leveraging the power of cross-modality interaction. Autofusion achieves a promising performance of 79.89% in accuracy, 83.85% in recall, 81.72% in precision, and 82.47% in F1. The technique consistently outperforms all unimodal methods by an average of 5.24% across all metrics. Our method consistently outperforms early fusion and late fusion. Especially against the late fusion hard-voting technique, our method outperforms by an average of 20% across all metrics. Further, empirical results show that the cross-modality interaction term enhances the model performance by 2-3% across metrics. This research highlights the promising impact of cross-modality interaction in multimodal machine learning and calls for further research to unlock its full potential

Standard motorcycle helmet usage and its effect on road traffic safety in the two major cities of Vietnam

The number and severity of road accidents in Vietnam is at alarming rate. From 2003, the Government has tried to improve traffic safety, therefore the number of accident and traumatic brain injury (TBI) and the rate of death reduced suddenly. However, from the end of 2008, even though accident number decreasing, a number of TBI and deaths due to road crash are jumping up. This paper aims to analyze the reason of heavy injuries, TBI and deaths happening increased. The specific surveys were taken to motorcyclists, helmet market, traffic safety agencies and hospital in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Statistic method, integrated comparison, observation, expert interview survey and brainstorming method have been used in this study to analyze the problem. Then road safety situation, helmet usage, regulation and enforcement were analyzed. Base on these, proposal to improve road safety in the two major cities in Vietnam is going to be discussed

Implementation of balanced scorecard in Vietnamese enteprises

Balanced scorecard is a highly effective method for performance measurement and strategic management in organizations and enterprises. The number of companies applying this method in Vietnam currently is not very high. For this reason, this paper aims to determine key factors for success when implementing balanced scorecard in Vietnamese enterprises. Then, it assesses the possibility for applying the method in companies who are planning to apply it. The data was collected from a survey of 6 companies who have applied balanced scorecard successfully and 19 companies who want to apply it. The data analysis result from the 6 companies who have had success with the balanced scorecard shows four major success factors, including balanced scorecard usefulness, balanced scorecard design, company human resource capacity, and balanced scorecard implementation process. Then, these factors were applied into 19 companies who have interest in implement the balanced scorecard to evaluate the ability to apply balanced scorecard. The result show that senior leaders’ point of views, strategy planning and execution, performance assessment, human resource capacity, and operation management of the company could affect to balanced scorecard implementation. Therefore, business leaders need to focus on these factors in order to successfully implement balanced scorecard in Vietnamese enterprises. Qualitative analysis were applied in this study
