    The conventional method for surgical skills training has been changing in recent years. Starting from the traditional method see one, do one and teach one a training method based on simulation where surgical residents learn from mistakes and experience new ways of doing things is proposed. Surgical simulators based on virtual reality has been one of the types of simulators that has received attention of the scientific community, thanks to its flexibility to simulate any situation. An important component of virtual surgical simulators is the 3D anatomical model, which allows viewing the resident human anatomy with which it is interacting. This article presents a methodology for the creation of an anatomical model from the images of visible human project is proposed.El m茅todo convencional para el entrenamiento de las habilidades quir煤rgicas ha estado cambiando en los 煤ltimos a帽os. Partiendo del tradicional m茅todo see one, do one and teach one se propone un m茅todo de entrenamiento basado en simulaci贸n, donde los residentes de cirug铆a aprendan de los errores y experimenten nuevas maneras de hacer las cosas. Los simuladores quir煤rgicos basados en realidad virtual han sido uno de los tipos de simuladores que m谩s ha recibido atenci贸n de la comunidad cient铆fica, gracias a su flexibilidad para simular cualquier tipo de situaci贸n. Un componente importante de los simuladores quir煤rgicos virtuales es el modelo anat贸mico 3D, el cual permite visualizar al residente la anat贸mica humana con la cual esta interactuando.     General algorithms for laparoscopic surgical simulators

    Recent advances in fields such as modeling of deformable objects, haptic technologies, immersive technologies, computation capacity and virtual environments have created the conditions to offer novel and suitable training tools and learning methods in the medical area. One of these training tools is the virtual surgical simulator, which has no limitations of time or risk, unlike conventional methods of training. Moreover, these simulators allow for the quantitative evaluation of the surgeon performance, giving the possibility to create performance standards in order to define if the surgeon is well prepared to execute a determined surgical procedure on a real patient. This paper describes the development of a virtual simulator for laparoscopic surgery. The simulator allows the multimodal interaction between the surgeon and the surgical virtual environment using visual and haptic feedback devices. To make the experience of the surgeon closer to the real surgical environment a specific user interface was developed. Additionally in this paper we describe some implementations carried out to face typical challenges presented in surgical simulators related to the tradeoff between real-time performance and high realism; for instance, the deformation of soft tissues are simulated using a GPU (Graphics Processor Unit) -based implementation of the mass-spring model.     the collision detection system of a Surgical Simulator is one of the most critical parts to be developed, because finding which section of an organ collides with the laparoscopic instrument has to be done in real time and as accurately as possible. In this paper we use a "most near from the two farthest triangles" approximation because we do not have to worry about the bounding-overlap problem in the bounding objects (spheres, boxes, etc.) approximation.El sistema de detecci贸n de colisi贸n de un simulador quir煤rgico es una de las partes m谩s cr铆ticas para ser desarrolladas, debido a que encontrar cu谩l secci贸n de un 贸rgano choca con un instrumento laparosc贸pico tiene que hacerse en tiempo real y con la mayor precisi贸n posible. En este trabajo se utiliza una aproximaci贸n denominada "m谩s cerca de los dos tri谩ngulos m谩s lejanos", puesto que con ello, no existe la preocupaci贸n por el problema de delimitaci贸n y superposici贸n en la aproximaci贸n de los cientos de objetos de delimitaci贸n (esferas, cajas, etc.)
