    Teaching models and local‐area networks

    The thesis of this paper is that new advances in both microtechnology and LAN technology can now provide teachers with flexible and exciting instructional tools which allow for a powerful integration of teaching model, curriculum content and technology. The first section describes some of the current applications of school‐based LANs. The second section discusses various teaching models, and describes an in‐depth example of how a teacher may go about providing instruction by combining a LAN and these models. The third section addresses the feasibility of such an instructional approach

    Earthworms have a reputation as soil builders and renovators, particularly among \u27organic\u27 farmers and gardeners. They improve soil fertility through increased aeration, aggregation, water infiltration and release of nutrients from organic matter. However, the benefits of earthworms in the wheatbelt have been doubted for many years because of their poor survival in cultivated soils. Since cropping began in the Western Auslmlian whealbelt over 1OO years ago, the physical condition of many soils has deteriorated. The primary causes of soil degradation were the European cultivation practices used by farmers and the trampling effect of introduced animals. in particular, sheep

    The four horsemen of terrorism: it’s not waves, it’s strains

    This is the accepted and refereed manuscript to the articleDavid Rapoport’s concept of four waves of terrorism, from anarchist terrorism in the 1880s, through nationalist and Marxist waves in the early and mid-Twentieth Century, to the present religious wave, is one of the most influential concepts in terrorism studies. However, this article argues that thinking about different types of terrorism as strains rather than waves better reflects both the empirical reality and the idea that terrorists learn from and emulate each other. Whereas the notion of waves suggests distinct iterations of terrorist violence driven by successive broad historical trends, the concept of strains and contagion emphasizes how terrorist groups draw on both contemporary and historical lessons in the development of their tactics, strategies, and goals. The authors identify four distinct strains in total – socialist, nationalist, religious, and exclusionist - and contend that it is possible to trace each strain back to a ‘patient zero’ active in the 1850s.1, Forfatterversjo

    A positioning and calibration system are provided for use in calibrating a single or multi axis sensitive instrument, such as an inclinometer. The positioning system includes a positioner that defines six planes of tangential contact. A mounting region within the six planes is adapted to have an inclinometer coupled thereto. The positioning system also includes means for defining first and second flat surfaces that are approximately perpendicular to one another with the first surface adapted to be oriented relative to a local or induced reference field of interest to the instrument being calibrated, such as a gravitational vector. The positioner is positioned such that one of its six planes tangentially rests on the first flat surface and another of its six planes tangentially contacts the second flat surface. Currently, problems that are not homogeneous are being attempted, and, through this involvement with real world applications, the software is evolving to handle the heterogeneous class problems efficiently
