    Dual-Campus Subject Librarians at University of Central Florida

    A new dual-campus subject librarian program is being rolled out at the University of Central Florida (UCF) whereby several subject librarians divide their time between two campuses, the legacy main campus in East Orlando and the new Downtown Orlando Campus. As of Fall 2019, four UCF subject librarians regularly travel to the new Downtown Campus to provide library support for academic programs, faculty, and students who recently relocated to the new facility. Dual-campus subject librarians are also maintaining support services for their assigned academic programs that remain at the UCF Main Campus. This article provides information and reflections about how the dual-campus subject librarian model operates and how it impacts staff duties from two perspectives. The first perspective is from the UCF Social Sciences subject librarian, who supports graduate and undergraduate programs in The School of Public Administration and Public Affairs graduate programs at the Downtown Campus, as well as graduate and undergraduate programs in Politics, Security & International Affairs and Criminal Justice at the Main Campus. The second perspective is from the Main Campus Head of the Research and Information Services Department, who supervises the dual-campus subject librarians

    At the University of Central Florida Libraries, the Research and Information Services Department, the Acquisitions and Collection Services Department, and the Office of Scholarly Communication are collaborating to create and support a new Subject Librarian Service Model that focuses on proactive outreach to faculty and students. Since January 2013, these three units have worked closely together to emphasize the importance of Subject Librarians becoming more fully integrated into the university infrastructure through increased subject liaison roles. Such exchanges not only increase participants’ understanding of other cultures, they also challenge participants to look at their own cultures from a new perspective.     A Tale of Two Liaison Programs: University of Central Florida Libraries and Louisiana State University Libraries Partnering for Subject Librarian Excellence

    Are you considering establishing a new or re-invigorated subject liaison program in your library but don\u27t know how to begin? Why not partner with an established liaison program at another library? Throughout the spring and fall of 2015, key public service managers at Louisiana State University (LSU) Libraries visited six Association of Southeastern Research Libraries (ASERL) to see, among other things, successful liaison programs. The LSU librarians were particularly impressed with the University of Central Florida (UCF) Libraries’ three-year-old reimagined subject librarian program. Following this visit, LSU managers began reworking their program by fine-tuning liaisons’ program assignments and creating a liaison training program that focused on academic program profiling, faculty profiling, curriculum mapping, curriculum integrated instruction, increased liaison visibility and accessibility, and proactive outreach to faculty and students. In this article, public service heads from UCF and LSU discuss how their liaison programs are the same and how they differ, how librarians collaborated in finding new ways of reaching faculty, what the challenges are in their current programs, and what the future may hold. Hopefully, lessons learned by UCF and LSU will provide insight for other academic libraries wishing to create liaison programs designed to support student and faculty success at their own institutions.     Sustaining Connectivity & Shifting to Remote Services During the COVID-19 Crisis: Stories from the UCF Libraries

    This poster was presented at the virtual Florida Association of College & Research Libraries Annual Conference on Friday, October 16, 2020. The conference poster session abstracts are listed below. Conference Poster Session Long Abstract: In response to administrative goals to provide remote support for constituents of the University of Central Florida and the need for connectivity of staff during the COVID-19 disruption, the UCF Libraries’ Research and Information Services (RIS) Department planned several ways to maintain high-quality services and provide professional skills training at a distance. This poster will illustrate the work of the RIS task force in the reopening of the Research and Information Desk and efforts by the department to stay connected while working remotely. Examples of how the task force solicited recommendations from RIS librarians and implemented a variety of innovative approaches to plan a technology supported virtual reference desk, virtual librarian office hours, Microsoft Teams subject librarian collaborations, and expanded Ask Us support will be shown. In addition, to further support connectivity, a RIS Environmental Scan was conducted to help process strategies for fulfilling the unit’s mission as many things transitioned to a fully virtual environment. Other examples such as, the first ever fully online RIS annual retreat with guest speakers will be described, along with our weekly virtual department meetings, and one-on-one telephone meetings between the RIS Department Head and each RIS Librarian will be noted. The audience will also learn about the internal UCF professional development skills opportunities that were made available to library staff for training that helped staff stay connected. Conference Poster Session Short Abstract: Our poster illustrates how the UCF Libraries’ Research & Information Services (RIS) Department maintained high-quality services during the COVID-19 campus wide closures the spring/summer of 2020.
