Non-local 2D Generalized Yang-Mills theories on arbitrary surfaces with boundary
The non-local generalized two dimensional Yang Mills theories on an arbitrary
orientable and non-orientable surfaces with boundaries is studied. We obtain
the effective action of these theories for the case which the gauge group is
near the identity, . Furthermore, by obtaining the effective action
at the large-N limit, it is shown that the phase structure of these theories is
the same as that obtain for these theories on orientable and non-orientable
surface without boundaries. It is seen that the model of these
theories on an arbitrary orientable and non-orientable surfaces with boundaries
have third order phase transition only on and surfaces, with
modified area for orientable and

The light ion trough, the main trough, and the plasmapause
Extensive observations of mid-latitude depletions in electron and total ion density by both direct and indirect techniques, have prompted numerous studies of the possible association between these troughs, observed in the F-region, the topside ionosphere, and the plasmapause. One basic problem arises, in that while the plasmapause was detected as a global phenomenon both by VLF and ion composition measurements, the electron and ion density troughs were identified primarily as nightside features. This problem, as well as the difficulty in explaining various inconsistencies in relating the position of the plasmapause and the ionization trough, is explained by a close examination of the ion composition. In particular, ion composition results from the polar orbiting OGO satellites identify the persistence of a pronounced light ion trough in H(+) and He(+) identified by order of magnitude decreases in the light ion concentrations
A perturbative analysis of tachyon condensation
Tachyon condensation in the open bosonic string is analyzed using a
perturbative expansion of the tachyon potential around the unstable D25-brane
vacuum. Using the leading terms in the tachyon potential, Pad\'e approximants
can apparently give the energy of the stable vacuum to arbitrarily good
accuracy. Level-truncation approximations up to level 10 for the coefficients
in the tachyon potential are extrapolated to higher levels and used to find
approximants for the full potential. At level 14 and above, the resulting
approximants give an energy less than -1 in units of the D25-brane tension, in
agreement with recent level-truncation results by Gaiotto and Rastelli. The
extrapolated energy continues to decrease below -1 until reaching a minimum
near level 26, after which the energy turns around and begins to approach -1
from below. Within the accuracy of this method, these results are completely
consistent with an energy which approaches -1 as the level of truncation is

Development of a HgCdTe photomixer and impedance matched GaAs FET amplifier
A research program for the development of a 10.6 micron HgCdTe photodiode/GaAs field effect transistor amplifier package for use at cryogenic temperatures (77k). The photodiode/amplifier module achieved a noise equivalent power per unit bandwidth of 5.7 times 10 to the 20th power W/Hz at 2.0 GHz. The heterodyne sensitivity of the HgCdTe photodiode was improved by designing and building a low noise GaAs field effect transistor amplifier operating at 77K. The Johnson noise of the amplifier was reduced at 77K, and thus resulted in an increased photodiode heterodyne sensitivity
Jet-cloud interations and the brightening of the narrow line region in Seyfert galaxies
We study the kinematical and brightness evolution of emission line clouds in
the narrow line region (NLR) of Seyfert galaxies during the passage of a jet.
We derive a critical density above which a cloud remains radiative after
compression by the jet cocoon. The critical density depends mainly on the
cocoon pressure. Super-critical clouds increase in emission line brightness,
while sub-critical clouds generally are highly overheated reducing their
luminosity below that of the inter-cloud medium. Due to the pressure
stratification in the bow-shock of the jet, a cylindrical structure of nested
shells develops around the jet. The most compact and brightest compressed
clouds surround the cloud-free channel of the radio jet. To support our
analytical model we present a numerical simulation of a supersonic jet
propagating into a clumpy NLR. The position-velocity diagram of the simulated
H_alpha emission shows total line widths of the order of 500 km/s with
large-scale variations in the radial velocities of the clouds due to the
stratified pressure in the bow-shock region of the jet. Most of the luminosity
is concentrated in a few dense clouds surrounding the jet. These morphological
and kinematic signatures are all found in the well observed NLR of NGC1068 and

The Bloch-Okounkov correlation functions, a classical half-integral case
Bloch and Okounkov's correlation function on the infinite wedge space has
connections to Gromov-Witten theory, Hilbert schemes, symmetric groups, and
certain character functions of \hgl_\infty-modules of level one. Recent works
have calculated these character functions for higher levels for \hgl_\infty
and its Lie subalgebras of classical type. Here we obtain these functions for
the subalgebra of type of half-integral levels and as a byproduct, obtain

Tachyon Kink on non-BPS Dp-brane in the General Background
This paper is devoted to the study of the tachyon kink on the worldvolume of
a non-BPS Dp-brane that is embedded in general background, including NS-NS two
form B and also general Ramond-Ramond field. We will explicitly show that the
dynamics of the kink is described by the equations of motion that arrise from
