Primer registro de Kukulcania hibernalis (Hentz, 1842) (Araneae: Filistatidae) para Chile

The family Filistatidae is represented in Chile only by the Prithinae Filistatoides milloti (Zapfe, 1961) (Platnick, 2009). In this work is reported for the first time the presence of the Filistatinae Kukulcania hibernalis (Hentz, 1842) in Chile, based on a female collected in Colchane (19��16��34��S, 68��38��16��W), highlands of the Iquique province.La familia Filistatidae esta representada en Chile unicamente por Filistatoides milloti (Zapfe, 1961) (Platnick, 2009), correspondiente a la subfamilia Prithinae. En este trabajo se reporta por primera vez para Chile la especie de la subfamilia Filistatinae Kukulcania hibernalis (Hentz, 1842) en base a una hembra colectada en la localidad de Colchane (19��16��34��S, 68��38��16��W) situado en el altiplano de la provincia de Iquique

Nuevos registros de arañas (Araneae Arachnida) para la Región de Arica y Parinacota, Norte de Chile

From adult spiders collected in the Azapa Valley the number of species present in the region of Arica and Parinacota is updated. Ecological and distributional data of the species found are given and a brief diagnosis for identification is provided.A partir de arañas adultas colectadas en el valle de Azapa se actualiza el número de especies presentes en la Región de Arica y Parinacota. Se entregan datos ecológicos y distribucionales de las especies encontradas y una breve diagnosis para poder identificarlas

Loxosceles surca (Gertsch, 1967) (Araneae: Sicariidae) en el norte de Chile

The presence of the spider Loxosceles surca (Gertsch, 1967) is reported for the first time in Chile. The record belongs to an adult female, collected in Quebrada de Berenguela (Tamarugal Province, Tarapacá Region), Northern Chile. This species was previously known exclusively from Perú. A key to Chilean Loxosceles species is delivered.A partir de una hembra adulta, colectada en la Quebrada de Berenguela (Provincia del Tamarugal, Región de Tarapacá), norte de Chile, se reporta por primera vez para este país la presencia de la araña Loxosceles surca (Gertsch, 1967), la cual era previamente conocida exclusivamente de Perú. Se incluye una clave para las especies de Loxosceles presentes en Chile

Notas acerca de la ecología de Argiope argentata (Fabricius, 1775) (Araneidae) en Chile

The genus Argiope Audouin, 1827 is represented by two species in Chile; Argiope argentata (Fabricius, 1775) and A. trifasciata (Forskal, 1775), but only the first is present in northern of Chile. This paper extends the distribution of A. argentata, and delivers data about their ecological role for the ecosystems of northern Chile. A diagnosis and figures to facilitate the recognition of the species are provided.El género Argiope Audouin, 1827 está representado por dos especies en Chile; Argiope argentata (Fabricius, 1775) y A. trifasciata (Forskal, 1775), pero únicamente la primera se encuentra presente en el norte de Chile. En este trabajo se amplía la distribución de A. argentata , y se entregan datos acerca de su rol ecológico para los ecosistemas del norte de Chile. La araña cangrejo gigante, Heteropoda venatoria (Linnaeus, 1767) (Araneae: Sparassidae: Heteropodinae) en Chile

The presence of the synanthropic spider Heteropoda venatoria (Linnaeus, 1767) is recorded for the first time in Chile. Specimens were collected in Iquique city (20°13'10.78"S 70° 8'16.14"O), Tarapaca Region in a peridomestic environment. A brief diagnosis to recognize the species is delivered, and the possible ways of entry of this spider to Chile are discussed.Se reporta por primera vez la presencia de la araña sinantropica Heteropoda venatoria (Linnaeus, 1767) para Chile. Daily thermal preference variation of the sand recluse spider Sicarius thomisoides (Araneae: Sicariidae)

Preferential temperature as a physiological feature is crucial for spiders, since it determines the selection of key habitats for their survival and reproduction. In this work, we study the daily and geographical variation of the preferential temperature of the spider Sicarius thomisoides subjected to different degrees of daily thermal oscillation in their habitats. Preferred temperatures differ between coastal and inland populations, but in both cases, there is a marked bimodality in the daily pattern of temperature preference, with two peaks per day that would be given by the changes in the hours of activity. These nocturnal spiders select higher temperatures in the evening (active period) and select lower temperatures during late morning (resting period). In laboratory, spiders have preferred temperatures that differ from those found in their habitats, so they must tolerate or compensate non-preferred temperatures by active thermoregulation in natural conditions.CONICYT projects (PFB23 and AFB170008)
