    Small conductive particle sensor

    Get PDF
An electrostatic conductive fiber detector is disclosed for use in detecting, counting and measuring the length of fibers down to 0.1 mm and below with increased accuracy and reliability over prior art devices. It can be used for detection of fibers suspending in a flowing gas, in a nonflowing gas, or in a vacuum and its accumulated counts over a period of time is essentially unaffected by velocity of the fibers being detected

    Transfer functions

The vulnerability of electronic equipment to carbon fibers is studied. The effectiveness of interfaces, such as filters, doors, window screens, and cabinets, which affect the concentration, exposure, or deposition of carbon fibers on both (internal and external) sides of the interface is examined. The transfer function of multilayer aluminum mesh, wet and dry, polyurethane foam, and window screen are determined as a function of air velocity. FIlters installed in typical traffic control boxes and air conditioners are also considered

    Vulnerability

The discussion of vulnerability begins with a description of some of the electrical characteristics of fibers before definiting how vulnerability calculations are done. The vulnerability results secured to date are presented. The discussion touches on post exposure vulnerability. After a description of some shock hazard work now underway, the discussion leads into a description of the planned effort and some preliminary conclusions are presented

Evaluation of Equipment Vulnerability and Potential Shock Hazards

    Get PDF
The vulnerability of electric equipment to carbon fibers released from aircraft accidents is investigated and the parameters affecting vulnerability are discussed. The shock hazard for a hypothetical set of accidents is computed

The large scale geometry of some metabelian groups

We study the large scale geometry of the upper triangular subgroup of PSL(2,Z[1/n]), which arises naturally in a geometric context. We prove a quasi-isometry classification theorem and show that these groups are quasi-isometrically rigid with infinite dimensional quasi-isometry group. We generalize our results to a larger class of groups which are metabelian and are higher dimensional analogues of the solvable Baumslag-Solitar groups BS(1,n)

The Dirty War Index: Statistical Issues, Feasibility, and Interpretation
