Precision Spectroscopy of Fast, Hot Exotic Isotopes Using Machine Learning Assisted Event-by-Event Doppler Correction

We propose an experimental scheme for performing sensitive, high-precision laser spectroscopy studies on fast exotic isotopes. By inducing a step-wise resonant ionization of the atoms travelling inside an electric field and subsequently detecting the ion and the corresponding electron, time- and position-sensitive measurements of the resulting particles can be performed. Using a Mixture Density Network (MDN), we can leverage this information to predict the initial energy of individual atoms and thus apply a Doppler correction of the observed transition frequencies on an event-by-event basis. We conduct numerical simulations of the proposed experimental scheme and show that kHz-level uncertainties can be achieved for ion beams produced at extreme temperatures (>108> 10^8 K), with energy spreads as large as 1010 keV and non-uniform velocity distributions. The ability to perform in-flight spectroscopy, directly on highly energetic beams, offers unique opportunities to studying short-lived isotopes with lifetimes in the millisecond range and below, produced in low quantities, in hot and highly contaminated environments, without the need for cooling techniques. Such species are of marked interest for nuclear structure, astrophysics, and new physics searches

This research entitled "Design of a Management System for the Management and Control of the Hardware Inventory Chain" aims to apply the mathematical models of inventories that enable efficient management of inventory accounting subsystem. The company has not had the expected growth due to fear of change on the part of management, where uncertainty and disorder are reflected in their actions, surviving in the shadow of large highly competitive hardware with advanced techniques regarding the management general they have on their inventories. Currently the hardware does not have a system that allows you to set up their inventories, using methods which are completely obsolete and inadequate for their development. That is why there is the need for this project in order to analyze and formalize a proposal for inventory management for the hardware store chain, in order to lead it to internal corporate growth, and therefore external, through strategies that allow us to solidify value attributes that differentiate it from its competition. For this reason the company decided to allow management to develop a design for the administration and control of their inventory to be consolidated both physically and accounting information of the hardware. Overall this project is intended to definitively resolve the weaknesses presented in administrative track of their inventories

Background: Myelitis post Herpes-Zoster is a rare condition that is typically associated with immunocompromised states. It usually starts as an acute loss of sensory and motor functions below the affected spinal cord level. The condition can range in severity from a mild to a fatal presentation. Other neurological complications include meningitis, atypical presentations should encourage the search for undiagnosed immunosuppression states. The Case: We describe the case of a 42-year-old man, with previously undiagnosed HIV, who developed acute myelitis and meningitis after the appearance of the classic zoster lesions. On lumbar puncture and subsequent CSF analysis, the patient was found to have Froin's Syndrome. The patient was initiated with ceftriaxone, vancomycin, and acyclovir regimen and prophylactic antiphymic treatment was also added. After 14 days in the hospital, the fever, headache, and neck stiffness subsided while the sphincter function and lower limb paraplegia did not improve. Conclusion: Varicella zoster virus reactivation suggests underlying immunosuppression. This case demonstrates the importance of being cognizant to the wide range of clinical manifestations that may suggest spinal cord involvement after clinical reactivation. Furthermore, physicians also need to be mindful that Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and other immunodeficiency states could present with atypical clinical manifestations

Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to revolutionize the drug discovery process, offering improved efficiency, accuracy, and speed. However, the successful application of AI is dependent on the availability of high-quality data, the addressing of ethical concerns, and the recognition of the limitations of AI-based approaches. In this article, the benefits, challenges and drawbacks of AI in this field are reviewed, and possible strategies and approaches for overcoming the present obstacles are proposed. The use of data augmentation, explainable AI, and the integration of AI with traditional experimental methods, as well as the potential advantages of AI in pharmaceutical research are also discussed. Overall, this review highlights the potential of AI in drug discovery and provides insights into the challenges and opportunities for realizing its potential in this field. Note from the human-authors: This article was created to test the ability of ChatGPT, a chatbot based on the GPT-3.5 language model, to assist human authors in writing review articles. The text generated by the AI following our instructions (see Supporting Information) was used as a starting point, and its ability to automatically generate content was evaluated. After conducting a thorough review, human authors practically rewrote the manuscript, striving to maintain a balance between the original proposal and scientific criteria. The advantages and limitations of using AI for this purpose are discussed in the last section.Comment: 11 pages, 1 figur

Exploiting visual saliency for assessing the impact of car commercials upon viewers

Content based video indexing and retrieval (CBVIR) is a lively area of research which focuses on automating the indexing, retrieval and management of videos. This area has a wide spectrum of promising applications where assessing the impact of audiovisual productions emerges as a particularly interesting and motivating one. In this paper we present a computational model capable to predict the impact (i.e. positive or negative) upon viewers of car advertisements videos by using a set of visual saliency descriptors. Visual saliency provides information about parts of the image perceived as most important, which are instinctively targeted by humans when looking at a picture or watching a video. For this reason we propose to exploit visual information, introducing it as a new feature which reflects high-level semantics objectively, to improve the video impact categorization results. The suggested salience descriptors are inspired by the mechanisms that underlie the attentional abilities of the human visual system and organized into seven distinct families according to different measurements over the identified salient areas in the video frames, namely population, size, location, geometry, orientation, movement and photographic composition. Proposed approach starts by computing saliency maps for all the video frames, where two different visual saliency detection frameworks have been considered and evaluated: the popular graph based visual saliency (GBVS) algorithm, and a state-of-the-art DNN-based approach. This work has been partially supported by the National Grants RTC-2016-5305-7 and TEC2014-53390-P of the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness.Publicad

CORRELATION BETWEEN JUMP HEIGHT AND BIOMECHANICAL VARIABLES IN CHILEAN ATHLETES OF TEAM SPORTS

    Get PDF
I In elite team sports technical skills and explosiveness are essential to get the optimum performance, being the vertical jump one of the most important motor skills in competition, usually assessed by countermovement jump (CMJ). The main aim of our study is to determine the correlation between jump height and kinetic and kinematic variables using force platforms, and secondly to describe CMJ values of elite Chilean team sports athletes. The results obtained in our study showed a positive correlation between jump height and concentric mean power, concentric peak velocity, concentric peak power and total concentric impulse. These results are fundamental for an optimal analysis of athletes jumping tests, based on data from the specific study population and the use of those variables that are most related to their performance
