Measurement of D*+/- diffractive cross sections in photoproduction at HERA
The first measurement of D*+/- meson diffractive photoproduction cross
sections has been performed with the ZEUS detector at the HERA collider,
using an integrated luminosity of 38 pb^-1. The measurement has been performed
for photon--proton center-of-mass energies in the range 130 < W < 280 GeV and
photon virtualities Q^2 < 1 GeV^2. D*+/- mesons have been reconstructed with
p_T(D*)>2 GeV and -1.5 D^0 \pi^+_s
with D^0 --> K-\pi^+ (+c.c.). The diffractive component has been selected with
0.001<x_Pom<0.018. The measured diffractive cross section in this kinematic
range is: \sigma_(ep --> e'D*Xp') =
0.74 +/- 0.21 (stat.)^{+0.27}_{-0.18} (syst.) +/-0.16 (p. diss.) ~nb (ZEUS
preliminary). Measured integrated and differential cross sections have been

Heavy Flavour Physics at HERA - a Survey
At the HERA collider at DESY, high energy electron and positron beams
interact with proton beams. A review is presented of the variety of ways in

A characteristic plot of pomeron-exchanged processes in diffractive DIS
The dependence of the fractal behaviors of the pomeron induced system in deep
inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering upon the diffractive kinematic variables is
found rather robust and not sensitive to the distinct parameterization of the
pomeron flux factor and structure function. A feasible experimental test of the
phenomenological pomeron-exchanged model based on the fractal measurement in

Charged particle production has been studied in deep inelastic scattering with the H1 and ZEUS detectors at HERA. The evolution of scaled momentum distribution with respect to Q2 is shown in the current fragmentation region of the Breit frame in the range from 10 to 40000 GeV2. Characteristics of the produced particle are presented for (anti)deuteron, (anti)protons, kaon pair production as well as (anti)lambda and K0.Istraživali smo tvorbu nabijenih čestica u duboko-neelastičnom raspršenju s detektorima H1 i ZEUS kod HERA-e. Deep Inelastic Scattering at HERA
Results from the H1 and ZEUS experiments at HERA on deep inelastic scattering
are reviewed. The data lead to a consistent picture of a steep rise in the F_2
structure function and in the gluon density within the proton. Important new
information on the partonic structure of diffraction is emerging from H1 and
ZEUS. The space-like region in which the weak and electromagnetic interactions
become of equal strength is being explored for the first time. A possible
excess of events at high x and Q^2 compared to the expectations of the Standard
Model has been observed in both experiments.Comment: 80 pages, 42 figure
Open charm production in diffractive ep collisions
The cross section for the diffractive reaction gamma* + p -> c cbar + p with
a real or virtual photon is calculated in the nonperturbative two-gluon
exchange model of Landshoff and Nachtmann. Numerical predictions are given for
cross sections and spectra at typical HERA values of c.m. energy and photon
virtuality. The contribution of charm to the diffractive structure function is
evaluated and found to be rather small in the model, and the ratio between the
production rates for b bbar and c cbar is tiny.Comment: 16 pages including 7 figures, Latex2e, uses epsf.st
Quaero@H1: An Interface to High-pT HERA Event Data
Distributions from high-pT HERA event data analyzed in a general search for
new physics at H1 have been incorporated into Quaero, an algorithm designed to
automate tests of specific hypotheses with high energy collider data. The use
of Quaero@H1 to search for leptoquarks, R-parity violating supersymmetry, and
excited quarks provides examples to develop intuition for the algorithm's

Bayesian model comparison applied to the Explorer-Nautilus 2001 coincidence data
Bayesian reasoning is applied to the data by the ROG Collaboration, in which
gravitational wave (g.w.) signals are searched for in a coincidence experiment
between Explorer and Nautilus. The use of Bayesian reasoning allows, under well
defined hypotheses, even tiny pieces of evidence in favor of each model to be
extracted from the data. The combination of the data of several experiments can
therefore be performed in an optimal and efficient way. Some models for
Galactic sources are considered and, within each model, the experimental result
is summarized with the likelihood rescaled to the insensitivity limit value
(`` function''). The model comparison result is given in in terms of
Bayes factors, which quantify how the ratio of beliefs about two alternative

Instrumented classification of patients with early onset ataxia or developmental coordination disorder and healthy control children combining information from three upper limb SARA tests
Background: Early Onset Ataxia (EOA) and Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) share several phenotypical characteristics, which can be clinically hard to distinguish. Aim: To combine quantified movement information from three tests obtained from inertial measure-ments units (IMUs), to improve the classification of EOA and DCD patients and healthy controls compared to using a single test. Methods: Using IMUs attached to the upper limbs, we collected data from EOA, DCD and healthy control children while they performed the three upper limb tests (finger to nose, finger chasing and fast alter -nating movements) from the Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) test. The most relevant features for classification were extracted. A random forest classifier with 300 trees was used for classification. The area under the receiver operating curve (ROC-AUC) and precision-recall plots were used for classification performance assessment. Results: The most relevant discerning features concerned smoothness and velocity of movements. Classification accuracy on group level was 85.6% for EOA, 63.5% for DCD and 91.2% for healthy control children. In comparison, using only the finger to nose test for classification 73.7% of EOA and 53.4% of DCD patients and 87.2% of healthy controls were accurately classified. For the ROC/precision recall plots the AUC was 0.96/0.89 for EOA, 0.92/0.81 for DCD and 0.97/0.94 for healthy control children. Discussion: Using quantified movement information from all three SARA-kinetic upper limb tests improved the classification of all diagnostic groups, and in particular of the DCD group compared to using only the finger to nose test.
