    Pre-sowing stimulation of wheat with UVB radiation of XeCl-excilamp

    The share of UVB spectrum range (290-320 nm) in the solar radiation flux accounts for an average of about 1.5% ofthe radiant flux on the planet. Taking into account the fact that plants adapt to living conditions in the course of evolution, it can be assumed that the flow of UVB radiation is also used by plants, but at the level of subdoses that reach the Earth's surface. The aim of current work is to study the growth and development of spring wheat ("Irgina" cultivar) when treated with subdoses of UVB radiation. For processing, XeCl-excilamp (High Current Electronic Institute SB RAS) radiation was used. The spectrum of this lamp is a narrow band with a maximum at a wavelength of 308 nm, which corresponds well to the UVB range. In the course of study, the pre-sowing UVB radiation dose values for seeds were found, under the influence of which wheat sprouts had an increase in such indicators as the length and dry weight of the root, the length of the leaf and the ratio of the root/shoot masses. It was shown, that as plants developed, the nitrogen balance index was always higher in the experiment with radiation in plants whose seeds were subjected to pre-sowing treatment with UVB radiation. This indicates the activation of growth and development processes in plants, as well as the accelerated absorption and assimilation of nitrogen compounds. Under the action of dose 0.5 J/cm2 the weighting parameters grain productivity such as weight of grains per ear, spike weight, weight of 1000 pcs seeds and the grain yield exceeded the check by 10.2 %. The UVB processing did not affect the quality of the wheat grain. Based on the obtained data, it is concluded that the use of XeCl-excilamp UVB radiation for pre-sowing stimulation of wheat is promising

    General and Ophthalmic Manifestations of Herpes Virus Infections

    Herpes viruses are a large group of DNA viruses causing a wide variety of diseases in humans. The exponential growth of medicine in general and advanced achievements of virology in particular authentically verified a wide spectrum of diseases in humans caused by or associated with herpesvirus infections. Eight types of herpes viruses particularly human simplex type 1 and 2, varicella-zoster, Epstein-Barr, cytomegalovirus, roseoloviruses type 6 and 7, and Kaposi’s sarcoma-associated herpesvirus were described in the article. This overview highlights the main issues of worldwide epidemiology, basic virology and clinical manifestations of herpes virusesinduced diseases and associated conditions, including general and ophthalmic disorders. Their prevalence in the world accounts for the almost the entire population. The majority human herpes viruses are typically acquired in infancy or early adulthood as a primary disease, and infect neurons, lymphoid or epithelial cells to persist for life and establish a latent infection. Reactivated human herpes viruses may present different clinical pictures and induce a broad spectrum of illnesses ranging from asymptomatic carrier state to recurrent life-threatening conditions and fatal diseases, especially in immunocompromised patients. This review particularly highlights the description of the diseases affecting the eye: anterior and posterior herpes-associated uveitis and acute retinal necrosis. Clinically herpes viruses can manifest in a variety of eye symptoms and signs complicating the diagnosis. Viral DNA in the eye mediums and tissues detection by means of PCR seems to be a challenge for practitioners. Thus, the review of latest research and developments indicate the need for newer diagnostic and management approaches to counter the herpes virus infectious

    СLINICAL FEATURES, DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF PATIENTS WITH RETINAL DETACHMENT DUE TO ACUTE RETINAL NECROSIS

    This article deals with the PCR diagnostic results of the vitreous and retina biopsy material in patients suffering from panuveitis with retinal detachment. Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment with partial hemophthalmia was diagnosed as a result of primary diagnosis. The pair eyes were intact. Ultrasound B-scan, electrophysiological studies, ocular fundus photoregistration and standard ophthalmological examination was conducted for all patients. As a special method of investigation, PCR diagnostics of a biopsy material from a primary vitrectomy was used as a special method. In ten patients with panoveitis, acute retinal necrosis and retinal detachment, vitrectomy with endolaser coagulation of the retina and a silicone tamponade was performed. Vitrectomy with endolaser retinal photocoagulation and silicone oil tamponade was performed in ten cases of panuveitis with acute retinal necrosis and retinal detachment; postoperatively systemic antiviral therapy was administered for 6–12 weeks. In the postoperative period, all patients underwent a course of systemic antiviral therapy with valaciclovir 500 mg twice a day for 6-12 weeks. In the absence of effect, valganciclovir 900 mg twice daily for 21 days was additionally used. As a result of PCR-diagnostics mixed infection (in the biopsy of the retina — viral DNA, in the biopsy of the vitreous body — DNA of the mycobacterium tuberculosis) was detected in 2 patients with the most severe retinal necrosis and panoveitis with funnel-shaped retinal detachment, Viral DNA was found in the retina biopsy specimen in one patient, and in the vitreous biopsy specimen DNA of the pathogen was not detected. Early primary vitrectomy promotes the most functional results: best corrected visual acuity after removal of the silicone oil reached 0,3–0,6 in the Golovin-Sivtsev table. The obtained data had shown, PCR is the most informative method for determining the etiology of the process is PCR diagnostics of the retina biopsy that with panoveitis with acute retinal necrosis. A potential cause of this nosological form is a mixed infection, namely, the combination of the viral nature of the disease with tuberculosis, although it is not always possible to identify all etiological agents

    Comparison of quality of life in patients with primary postoperative and autoimmune hypothyreosis

    Background. Achieving a high level of quality of life is one of the priorities in the treatment of chronic diseases. Focusing on the quality of life, it is possible to optimally adjust the treatment plan for patients, influencing the link that suffers most in this pathology. Hypothyroidism is mainly formed as a result of surgery on the thyroid gland, or autoimmune thyroiditis, and at the same time is one of the most common endocrine diseases, is of great social importance due to the potentially adverse effect on most organs and systems, resulting in a decrease in quality of life.The aim. To analyze the impact of primary hypothyroidism (postoperative hypothyroidism and autoimmune thyroiditis) on the quality of life of patients.Materials and methods. During the study, a clinical, laboratory and psychological study of 78 women with uncompensated primary hypothyroidism was carried out: 40 women aged 32–76 years with postoperative hypothyroidism (main group) and 38 women aged 36–60 years with autoimmune thyroiditis (comparison group). The quality of life was judged by the indicators of the MOS SF-36 questionnaire.Conclusion. In the examined patients with primary hypothyroidism, an association between an increase in TSH levels and a decrease in all indicators of the quality of life was revealed. First, indicators of physical functioning, general health, role and emotional functioning worsened. The dependence of indicators on the MOS SF-36 scales with the age of patients, the duration of hypothyroidism, and the level of TSH was revealed. The quality of life in patients with postoperative hypothyroidism was significantly reduced compared to patients who had hypothyroidism due to autoimmune thyroiditis

    Evaluation of the effectiveness of teipping technology in patients with impotence syndrome of the rotator cuff of the shoulder

    The purpose of this study was to value efficiency kinesio taping by Kase et al in patients with shoulder impingement syndrome with support treatment. Patients (n = 100) from 30 to 69 years was divided for 2 groups by 50 patients each. The main goal of this study was to measure mobility arms, level of painful feeling and mental condition. Response to treatment was evaluated with the the Disability of Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) scale, visual analogue scale (VAS), SF-36 BP, SF-36 MH. Measures were assessed before treatment, after treatment and after 1 month. The DASH score of the kinesio taping group was statistically significantly lower after 1 week and 1 month as compared with the control group. So, Kinesio tape has been found to be more effective than the only standard therapy.В работе проведена оценка эффективности технологии тейпирования по методике Kase et al. у пациентов с болевым синдромом на фоне импиджмент-синдрома при проведении адекватной противовоспалительной терапии. В исследовании приняло участие 100 человек в возрасте от 30 до 69 лет (42 женщины, 58 мужчин), которые были разделены на группы исследования и контроля, по 50 в каждой. Сутью метода исследования была оценка функционирования верхней конечности, уровня субъективных болевых ощущений и психологического состояния пациентов до и после лечения, а также спустя 1 месяц с помощью шкал DASH, VAS, SF-36 BP, SF-36 MH. По результатам статистического анализа, значимые различия группы исследования и группы контроля были выявлены по шкале DASH через 1 неделю и через 1 месяц после применения тейпов. таким образом, указанная технология тейпирования при проведении адекватной противовоспалительной терапии оказалась более эффективна в сравнении со стандартными методами лечения, а именно, способствовала более быстрому восстановлению функции конечности, но не оказывала влияния на болевой синдром и психологическое состояние пациентов

    ДЕГЕНЕРАТИВНЫЕ ИЗМЕНЕНИЯ В СЛОЕ НЕРВНЫХ ВОЛОКОН РОГОВИЦЫ У ПАЦИЕНТОВ С ПЕРВИЧНОЙ ОТКРЫТОУГОЛЬНОЙ ГЛАУКОМОЙ

    PURPOSE: To evaluate the corneal nerves structure in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG).METHODS: The study included 111 patients. The main group comprised 76 patients (148 eyes) aged 36 to 83 years (62.9Ѓ}2.3 years) with I-IV stages of POAG, control group consisted of 35 healthy volunteers (70 eyes) aged 38-76 years (65.3Ѓ}1.4 years) with normal IOP level and no POAG signs. Patient examination included visometry, biomicroscopy, ophthalmoscopy, gonioscopy, contour tonometry (Pascal), OCT (Zeiss Stratus 3000) and corneal confocal microscopy (HRT III, with Rostock Cornea Modul).RESULTS: The following structural changes in the corneal nerves were revealed in POAG patients: a decreasing number of nerves, nerve fibers thinning and discontinuity. A quantitative assessment of the corneal nerves tortuosity degree was made by calculating the anisotropy coefficient of the corneal nerves directivity (KΔL). Mean KΔL in the control group was 2.78 (2.47; 3.57) (Me (Q1; Q3)), which significantly differed from the glaucoma group (p=0.0014), where mean KΔL was 2.51 (2.07; 3.16) (Me (Q1; Q3)). Significant differences in KΔL were obtained for different stages of glaucoma (p=0.0004), a moderate negative KΔL bond was detected with POAG stage (r=-0.41, p<0.001). Positive, though weak, correlation was established between KΔL and the following OCT parameters: Rim Cross Sectional Area (r=0.27, p=0.001), Rim Area (r=0.25, p=0.0032) (p<0.005), Rim Volume (r=0.23, p=0.01) and Avg. Thickness (r=0.29, p=0.00063) (p<0.001). The interocular asymmetry of the corneal nerves structure in patients with different glaucoma stages in pair eyes has been studied. The KΔL index asymmetry was calculated. It turned out that this index in the glaucoma group was higher than in the control group, with values in both groups showing a significant difference (p=0.00026). KΔL asymmetry index directly correlated with the divergence in POAG stages between the pair eyes.CONCLUSION: The presence of structural changes in the corneal nerves layer and the increase in the severity of these changes depending on glaucoma stage, indicate that the dystrophic process in the cornea is a local manifestation of glaucomatous neurodegenerative process. This is best seen in the study of interocular asymmetry in patients with different glaucoma stages in pair eyes. This gives us a notion of universality of the neurodegenerative process in patients with POAG, and consequently, suggests that the study of corneal structures may have diagnostic value.ЦЕЛЬ. Оценить структурное состояние нервных волокон роговицы (НВР) при первичной открытоугольной глаукоме (ПОУГ).МЕТОДЫ. В исследование вошли 111 пациентов. Основная группа — 76 пациентов (148 глаз) в возрасте от 36 до 83 лет (62,9Ѓ}2,3 года) — с диагнозом ПОУГ I-IV стадий. Контрольная группа — 35 пациентов (70 глаз) — офтальмологически здоровые добровольцы с нормальным уровнем внутриглазного давления (ВГД) и без признаков ПОУГ в возрасте от 38 до 76 лет (65,3Ѓ}1,4 года). Были проведены: визометрия, биомикроскопия переднего отрезка глаза, офтальмоскопия, гониоскопия, контурная тонометрия по методу Pascal, оптическая когерентная томография (ОКТ) дисков зрительных нервов (Zeiss Stratus 3000) и конфокальная микроскопия роговицы (КМР) (HRT III, с Rostock Cornea Modul).РЕЗУЛЬТАТЫ. У пациентов с диагнозом ПОУГ по данным КМР были выявлены структурные изменения в слое НВР, такие как истончение нервных волокон, прерывистость хода, уменьшение их количества. Проведена количественная оценка степени извитости НВР посредством вычисления коэффициента анизотропии направленности НВР (KΔL). Среднее значение KΔL НВР в группе нормы составило 2,78 (2,47; 3,57) (Ме (Q1; Q3)), что достоверно отличается от группы глаукомы (р=0,0014), где среднее значение KΔL составило 2,51 (2,07; 3,16) (Ме (Q1; Q3)). Получены достоверные различия KΔL при различных стадиях глаукомы (р=0,0004), выявлена умеренная отрицательная связь KΔL со стадией ПОУГ (r=-0,41, p<0,001). Выявлены положительные, хотя и слабые, корреляционные связи между KΔL и показателями ОКТ: с Rim Cross Sectional Area (r=0,27, p=0,001), с Rim Area (r=0,25, p=0,0032) (p<0,005), с Rim Volume (r=0,23, p=0,01) и с Avg. Thickness (r=0,29, p=0,00063) (p<0,001). Исследована межокулярная асимметрия структуры НВР у пациентов с разностадийной глаукомой на парных глазах. Был рассчитан показатель асимметрии KΔL (ПА). Оказалось, что этот показатель в группе глаукомы был выше по сравнению с группой нормы, значения в обеих группах достоверно различны (р=0,00026). ПА KΔL тем выше, чем больше расхождение по стадиям ПОУГ между парными глазами.ЗАКЛЮЧЕНИЕ. Наличие структурных изменений в слое НВР и усиление выраженности данных изменений в зависимости от стадии глаукомы свидетельствуют о том, что дистрофический процесс в роговице является частным проявлением глаукомного нейродегенеративного процесса. Особенно наглядно это видно при исследовании межокулярной асимметрии на глазах пациентов с разностадийной глаукомой. Таким образом, возникает представление об универсальности нейродегенеративного процесса при ПОУГ, а значит, исследование структур роговицы может иметь диагностическое значение

    Количественная характеристика клеток Лангерганса в слое нервных волокон роговицы при первичной открытоугольной глаукоме

    Purpose: To estimate the number of Langerhans cells (LC) in the cornea in primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) at various stages of the disease.Methods: The study included 129 patients. The main group — 102 patients (204 eyes) aged from 42 to 83 years (62.5±2.4 years) — diagnosed with POAG stage I-IV. The control group consisted of 27 ophthalmologically healthy volunteers (54 eyes) with a normal level of IOP and no signs of POAG aged 54 to 76 years (65.9±1.4 years). The patients underwent visometry, biomicroscopy of the anterior segment of the eye, ophthalmoscopy, gonioscopy, Pascal contour tonometry, optical coherence tomography (OCT) (Zeiss Stratus 3000) and corneal confocal microscopy (CMR) (HRT III, with Rostock Cornea Modul).Results: The average number of LC in patients with glaucoma amounted to 144±21 cells/mm2. It was higher than in the norm group, the difference was statistically significant (p=0.0002). The study revealed an increase in the number of LC associated with the development of glaucoma. A significant positive correlation of the amount of LC in the nerve fiber layer with the stage of the disease (R=0.23, p<0.05) was also found, as well as a negative correlation with the anisotropy coefficient of the directivity of the corneal nerve fibers in the POAG group (R= -0.29, p<0.001). Intereye asymmetry was investigated, which was found to be the higher, the greater the difference in the stages of POAG between paired eyes. With the value of the indicator of interocular asymmetry LC, equal to 19.68%, the sensitivity and specificity of the proposed indicator for the diagnosis of POAG were 94.1 and 66.6%, respectively. Thus, the values of the interocular asymmetry LC indicator above 19.68% are considered pathological.Conclusion: The detected increase in the number of LC in the nerve fiber layer indicates the presence of an inflammatory process in the eye, which may well be autoimmune. And it may be the root cause of open-angle glaucoma, lead to pathological glaucomatous scleropathy with damage to the drainage apparatus of the eye and a corresponding increase in IOP level. It also causes a characteristic clinical course in the form of a chronic, bilateral, low-intensity process. In this sense, the neurodegenerative processes in the anterior and posterior segments of the eye are pathogenetically uniform.Цель. Оценить количество клеток Лангерганса (КЛ) в роговице при первичной открытоугольной глаукоме (ПОУГ) в различных стадиях заболевания.Методы. В исследование вошли 129 пациентов. Основная группа — 102 пациента (204 глаза) в возрасте от 42 до 83 лет (62,5±2,4 года) — с диагнозом ПОУГ I-IV стадий. Исследована межокулярная асимметрия посредством вычисления показателя межокулярной асимметрии (ПМА). ПМА количества КЛ в слое НВР тем выше, чем больше рас- хождение по стадиям ПОУГ между парными глазами. При значении ПМА КЛ 19,68% чувствительность и специфичность предлагаемого показателя для диагностики ПОУГ составили 94,1 и 66,6% соответственно. Таким образом, значения ПМА КЛ выше 19,68% принимаются как патологические.Заключение. Обнаруженное увеличение количества КЛ в слое НВР указывает на присутствие воспалительного процесса в глазу, который вполне может быть аутоиммунным. И может претендовать на первопричинность открытоугольной глаукомы, приводить к патологической глаукомной склеропатии с повреждением дренажного аппарата глаза и соответствующим повышением ВГД, а также диктовать характерное клиническое течение в виде хронического двухстороннего вялотекущего процесса. В этом смысле нейродегенеративные процессы в переднем и заднем сегментах глаза патогенетически едины

    Introduction. Dry eye syndrome (DES) is a multifactorial disease of the ocular surface, characterized by changes in its homeostasis and accompanied by ocular symptoms, the etiology of which is associated with destabilization of the tear film, hyperosmolarity, inflammation, damage to the structures of the ocular surface and neurosensory disorders.Objective. To study the effect of a drug containing plastoquinonyldecyltriphenylphosphonium bromide (PDTP, SkQ1) on dynamics of osmolarity and reparative properties of the cornea.Materials and methods. The study included 23 patients (46 eyes) aged 23 to 49 years. All patients presented complaints of dryness, burning sensation, cramps and discomfort in the eyes, increased sensitivity with instillation of drops, periodic blurred vision. Patients underwent standard and special ophthalmic examinations. The patients were divided into two groups comparable in gender and quantitative composition.Results. Based on the results of the examination at the starting visit, all patients were diagnosed with DES mild or moderate study. After one week of therapy, a significant decrease in subjective complaints was noted patients who received the drug with PDTF. All patients tolerated the drug well. In the group of patients who received a tear replacement therapy with hypromellose, in most patients, while complaints of dryness persist, decreased a feeling of pain in the eyes. A month later, complaints persisted only in patients of this group, but their intensity was known significantly reduced compared to the visit after a week. Against the background of therapy with the drug with PDTP, significant improvement of the Schirmer test, Norn test and corneal staining, as well as with the help of a in vivo confocal microscopy shows a decrease in the number of Langerhans cells.Conclusion. The results obtained indicate a positive effect of PDTP on the structure of the ocular surface even with its short-term use due to its keratoprotective and anti-inflammatory action
