Etika Diskursus Bagi Masyarakat Multikultural: Sebuah Analisis Dalam Perspektif Pemikiran Jürgen Habermas

Nowadays, multicultural society with its ideology: multiculturalism, has been paid much attention from many people. The concept has been predicted as an effective solution for conflict problems in plural societies. Jürgen Habermas, in this case, has offered his concept: discourse ethics, which gives interest to an ability for discourse. The goal of this research is to find the relevancy of the discourse ethics for multicultural society. To what extent the challenge of multicultural society could be answered by the discourse ethics. This writing shows that the discourse ethics has offered an ethical dimension in which be constructed socially for values preference. It is decided by a rational discourse. The rational discourse is a responsibility discourse which pays attentions to validity claims. The reconstruction of new values in the discourse will drive to formation of a new world which is objective and becomes a life-world where we live together. The model of multicultural society with its plurality needs discourse ability. It is hoped that with the ability people can avoid appearance of conflicts. For this, multicultural educations could be an effort to support growth of multicultural consciousness

Various factors may contribute to adverse pregnancy outcomes; either maternal or foetal outcomes. This study aimed was to determine the association between advanced maternal age and adverse pregnancy outcomes. This is a cross sectional study. Data were collected from the birth records from January 1st 2012 until December 31st 2012 in Muar District. Descriptive and multiple logistic regression analyses were done and the results were presented as adjusted odds ratio (aOR) with p-value <0.05. The proportion of birth in Muar district, Johor was 14.8% among mothers aged 35 years and older and 85.2% among mothers aged 20 to 34 years. Advanced maternal age was associated with pregnancy-induced hypertension (aOR: 5.00; 95%CI: 1.95-12.65), gestational diabetes mellitus (aOR: 2.32; 95%CI: 1.35-4.00) and Caesarean section (aOR: 2.21; 95%CI: 1.53-3.19). Anaemia was negatively associated with advanced maternal age (aOR: 0.50; 95%CI: 0.32-0.78). No significant association was found between advanced maternal age and adverse foetal outcomes. In view of the findings, special attention should be paid to the antenatal mothers aged 35 years and older, even to those without any pre-existing medical problems

Investigation of optical effects in silicon quantum dots by using an empirical pseudopotential method

A computer simulation using a pseudopotential approach has been carried out to investigate the band gap as a function of the size and the shape of small silicon (Si) dots having 3 to 44 atoms per dot with and without surface passivation. We used an empirical pseudo-potential Hamiltonian, a plane-wave basis expansion and a basic tetrahedral structure with undistorted local bonding configurations. In our simulation, the structures of the quantum dots were relaxed and optimized before and after passivation. We found that the gap increased more for an oxygenated surface than a hydrogenated one. Thus, both quantum confinement and surface passivation determined the optical and the electronic properties of Si quantum dots. Visible luminescence was probably due to radiative recombination of electrons and holes in the quantum-confined nanostructures. The effect of passivation of the surface dangling bonds by hydrogen and oxygen atoms and the role of surface states on the gap energy was also examined. We investigated the entire energy spectrum starting from the very low-lying ground state to the very high-lying excited states. The results for the sizes of the gap, the density of states, the oscillator strength and the absorption coefficient as functions of the size are presented. The importance of the confinement and the role of surface passivation on the optical effects are also discussed

Temperature dependent luminescence in erbium-doped zinc tellurite glass: a model investigation

Temperature quenching characteristics of infrared-to-visible frequency up-conversion (UC) in erbium doped zinc tellurite glasses under infrared excitation 797 tun are presented. A comprehensive 4-level model has been developed and the derived rate equations have been exploited to examine the thermal quenching of efficiency and emission intensity for the UC. The green (4S3/2→4I15/2) and red (4F9/2→4I15/2) emissions over a temperature range 10-340 K and at concentration 2.0 mol% have been studied. The green emission shows a continuous increase with decrease of temperature while the red emission is not that sensitive to temperature. In addition, the temperature dependence on the multi-phonon relaxation rates is fitted with 4 phonons processes. These features are attributed to the non-radiative (NR) energy transfer processes, trapped impurity effects and thermal assisted hopping. It is further indicated that to achieve higher infrared to visible up-converted efficiency in zinc tellurite glasses the NR channels for energy and charge transfer by phonon and impurity mediated process has to be minimized. Our results on pump power dependent emission intensity, quantum efficiency, luminescence intensity and NR multi-phonon relaxation rates are in conformity with other findings. The present systematic study provides useful information for further development of UC lasers

Tellurite glasses of varying Er3+/Nd3+ concentration were successfully prepared by meltquenching method. The X-Ray diffraction pattern was determined by using Siemens Diffractometer D5000 while the optical properties were measured using Shimadzu 3101 pc UV-VIS NIR scanning spectrophotometer. It was found that the diffraction patterns of all samples showed glasses characteristics. The optical band gap, Eopt increased proportionally with the content of Er2O3 but Urbach energy, ?E decreased due to the increasing Er2O3 contents

Model for up-conversion luminescence in silver nanoparticles embedded erbium-doped tellurite glass

Nanoparticles (NPs) size dependent enhancement of the infrared-to-visible frequency up-conversion (UC) and absorption coefficient in silver NPs embedded Er 3+ doped tellurite glasses on pumping with the 976 nm radiation have been i nvestigated. The rate equations derived from the 4-level model developed by the authors earlier to discuss temperature dependent UC have now been extended to study the role played by NPs. The effects of quantum confinement and local field of silver NPs have been incorporated. Considering the spherical NPs size distribution as Gaussian, an analytical expression for the luminescence intensity and absorption coefficient has been obtained for the first time, is further exploited to examine the enhancement of UC emission intensity due to the presence of silver NPs. Furthermore, an enhancement in UC emission intensity of the green bands ( 2H 11/2→4I 15/2 and 4S 3/2 →4I 15/2 ) and red band ( 4F 9/2 →4 I15/2 ) emission of Er 3+ ion at temperature 250 K and optimized Er 3+ concentration 1.0 mol% have been observed up to few times in the presence of silver NPs in the g lass. The green emission showed larger enhancement than the red emission. The observed of Er 3+ luminescence is mainly a ttributed to the local field effects namely the surface plasmon resonance of silver NPs which causes an intensified electromagnetic field around NPs, resulting in enhanced optical transitions of Er 3+ ions in the vicinity. The model is quite g eneral and can be applied to other rare earth doped glasses containing metallic NPs. Our results on NPs size dependent emission intensity and absorption coefficient are in conformity with other findings. The present systematic study provides useful information for further development of UC lasers and sensors
