SENSIBLE NATURE: To “See” As We Once Did
This thesis starts with the premise that our growing dependence on tools and digital technologies has led to a gradual decline in our sensory acuity, causing a disconnect between people and nature.
To address this issue, the thesis aims to re-establish lost connections by utilizing plant-based sensorial designs that evoke emotions and instincts, reigniting empathy and intimacy with the natural world.
By utilizing these strategies, this thesis seeks to enhance our ability to perceive, connect with, and appreciate the world around us, thereby creating a stronger, more intimate relationship between humanity and the environment
Does mobile social media undermine our romantic relationships? The influence of fear of missing out (FoMO) on young people’s romantic relationship
The widespread use of social media has a transformative effect on people’s work and lives. With the increasing information explosion and more cases of social media addiction, users have been always worried that they have missed some information. FoMO (fear of missing out) of mobile users emerges. FoMO is an important theory that explicates the underlying cognitive, psychological, and social processes of dark or negative sides of online information behaviour (Shen, et al., 2021). This paper explores the impact of FoMO of post-90s generation mobile users on romantic relationship in the context of social media. The questionnaire survey was conducted in December 2017. The sample size was 274 Chinese post-90s (people born in the 1990’s) mobile social media users who were in love for at least one year and unmarried.. The statistical methods such as regression analysis were adopted. The impacts of FoMO on romantic relationship were analyzed from the perspectives of three dimensions of FoMO: cognitive, emotional and behavioural manifestations. The quantitative analysis of survey data employed the statistical package SPSS 26.0. The behavioural manifestation of FoMO has a significant negative effect on romantic relationships, while emotional and cognitive manifestations of FoMO have no significant effects on romantic relationships. This indicates that driven by FoMO, the post-90s mobile users often check the information in device frequently and subconsciously, resulting in excessive information behaviours, which does harm to the development of romantic relationship. It also implies that the view of simply treating the anxiety disorder FoMO as a psychological symptom is debatable.Conclusion. FoMO has affected users’ interpersonal relationship and behaviour in the offline environment, especially for post-90s generation users. This paper enriches the research on the effects of psychology and information behaviour of mobile social media users on their interpersonal relationship.Peer Reviewe
Seamless Service Provisioning for Mobile Crowdsensing: Towards Integrating Forward and Spot Trading Markets
The challenge of exchanging and processing of big data over Mobile
Crowdsensing (MCS) networks calls for the new design of responsive and seamless
service provisioning as well as proper incentive mechanisms. Although
conventional onsite spot trading of resources based on real-time network
conditions and decisions can facilitate the data sharing over MCS networks, it
often suffers from prohibitively long service provisioning delays and
unavoidable trading failures due to its reliance on timely analysis of complex
and dynamic MCS environments. These limitations motivate us to investigate an
integrated forward and spot trading mechanism (iFAST), which entails a new
hybrid service trading protocol over the MCS network architecture. In iFAST,
the sellers (i.e., mobile users with sensing resources) can provide long-term
or temporary sensing services to the buyers (i.e., sensing task owners). iFast
enables signing long-term contracts in advance of future transactions through a
forward trading mode, via analyzing historical statistics of the market, for
which the notion of overbooking is introduced and promoted. iFAST further
enables the buyers with unsatisfying service quality to recruit temporary
sellers through a spot trading mode, upon considering the current
market/network conditions. We analyze the fundamental blocks of iFAST, and
provide a case study to demonstrate its superior performance as compared to
existing methods. Finally, future research directions on reliable service
provisioning for next-generation MCS networks are summarized
Implications for functional diversity conservation of China’s marine fisheries
Publisher Copyright: Copyright © 2022 Zhao, He, Su, Xu, Xu, Zhang and Zhang.Functional diversity is critical to ecosystem stability and resilience to disturbances as it supports the delivery of ecosystem services on which human societies rely. However, changes in functional diversity over space and time, as well as the importance of particular marine fish species to functional space are less known. Here, we reported a temporal change in the functional diversity of marine capture fisheries from all coastal provinces in China from 1989 to 2018. We suggested that both functional evenness (FEve) and functional divergence (FDiv) changed substantially over time, especially with considerable geographic variation in FEve in the detected patterns. Even within the same sea, the relative contributions of fishes with various water column positions and trophic levels in different waters have different patterns. Together these results underline the need of implementing specific climate-adaptive functional diversity conservation measures and sustainable fisheries management in different waters.Peer reviewe
DISCO: Achieving Low Latency and High Reliability in Scheduling of Graph-Structured Tasks over Mobile Vehicular Cloud
To effectively process data across a fleet of dynamic and distributed
vehicles, it is crucial to implement resource provisioning techniques that
provide reliable, cost-effective, and real-time computing services. This
article explores resource provisioning for computation-intensive tasks over
mobile vehicular clouds (MVCs). We use undirected weighted graphs (UWGs) to
model both the execution of tasks and communication patterns among vehicles in
a MVC. We then study low-latency and reliable scheduling of UWG asks through a
novel methodology named double-plan-promoted isomorphic subgraph search and
optimization (DISCO). In DISCO, two complementary plans are envisioned to
ensure effective task completion: Plan A and Plan B.Plan A analyzes the past
data to create an optimal mapping () between tasks and the MVC in
advance to the practical task scheduling. Plan B serves as a dependable backup,
designed to find a feasible mapping () in case fails during
task scheduling due to unpredictable nature of the network. We delve into into
DISCO's procedure and key factors that contribute to its success. Additionally,
we provide a case study that includes comprehensive comparisons to demonstrate
DISCO's exceptional performance in regards to time efficiency and overhead. We
further discuss a series of open directions for future research
Cloud-Magnetic Resonance Imaging System: In the Era of 6G and Artificial Intelligence
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) plays an important role in medical
diagnosis, generating petabytes of image data annually in large hospitals. This
voluminous data stream requires a significant amount of network bandwidth and
extensive storage infrastructure. Additionally, local data processing demands
substantial manpower and hardware investments. Data isolation across different
healthcare institutions hinders cross-institutional collaboration in clinics
and research. In this work, we anticipate an innovative MRI system and its four
generations that integrate emerging distributed cloud computing, 6G bandwidth,
edge computing, federated learning, and blockchain technology. This system is
called Cloud-MRI, aiming at solving the problems of MRI data storage security,
transmission speed, AI algorithm maintenance, hardware upgrading, and
collaborative work. The workflow commences with the transformation of k-space
raw data into the standardized Imaging Society for Magnetic Resonance in
Medicine Raw Data (ISMRMRD) format. Then, the data are uploaded to the cloud or
edge nodes for fast image reconstruction, neural network training, and
automatic analysis. Then, the outcomes are seamlessly transmitted to clinics or
research institutes for diagnosis and other services. The Cloud-MRI system will
save the raw imaging data, reduce the risk of data loss, facilitate
inter-institutional medical collaboration, and finally improve diagnostic
accuracy and work efficiency.Comment: 4pages, 5figures, letter
Bank Credit Strategy Model Based on AHP-Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation
Credit risk control and credit strategy formulation of medium and micro enterprises have always been important strategic issues faced by commercial banks. Banks usually make corporate loan policies based on the credit degree, the information of trading bills and the relationship of supply-demand chain of the enterprise. In this paper, we established the AHP-Fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model for quantifying enterprise credit risk. Based on the relevant data of 123 enterprises with credit records, the credit strategy is formulated according to the three indicators of enterprise strength, enterprise reputation and stability of supply-demand relationship. This paper also combines the credit reputation, credit risk and supply and demand stability rating in order to establish the bank credit strategic planning model to decide whether to lend or not and the lending order. The conclusion shows that, under the condition of constant total loan amount, the enterprises with the highest credit rating should be given priority. Then, combined with the change of customer turnover rate with interest rate, we take the bank's maximize expected income as objective to calculate the optimal loan interest rate of different customer groups
