Für das Leben lernen: Warum fehlt die Soziologie in der Schule?

Der Beitrag kritisiert den Umstand, dass soziologische Kompetenzen in der Schule kaum vermittelt werden und die universitäre Lehramtsausbildung praktisch ohne Einbezug der Soziologie stattfindet. Dies wird problematisiert, weil jungen Menschen damit jenes gesellschaftliche Orientierungswissen vorenthalten wird, das die Soziologie systematisch bereitstellt, und das in Zeiten zunehmend krisenhafter gesellschaftlicher Entwicklungen besonders notwendig ist. Es wird aber auch aus Sicht des Faches problematisiert, dass die mangelnde Sichtbarkeit der Soziologie in der Schule mit zu den aktuell beobachtbaren sinkenden Studierendenzahlen in den Soziologie-Studiengängen beiträgt. Es werden Maßnahmen vorgestellt, die der DGS-Ausschuss "Soziologie in Schule und Lehre" ergriffen hat, um im Fach und bei politisch Verantwortlichen das Problembewusstsein zu schärfen.The article criticizes the fact that sociological competencies are hardly taught at school and that university teacher training is carried out virtually without the inclusion of sociology. This is problematized because young people are thus deprived of essential skills of social orientation, which sociology systematically provides, and this in times of increasingly crisis-ridden social developments. Looking at the issue from the perspective of sociology as an academic discipline, it is also problematized that the lack of visibility of sociology in schools contributes to the currently observable decline in the number of students in sociology courses. Measures are presented which the DGS committee "Sociology in Schools and Teaching" has taken to raise awareness of the problem both within the group of sociologists at universities and among those with political responsibility in the realm of school and education

Soziologie als Fiktion? Zum beruflichen Selbstverständnis berufstätiger Soziologen außerhalb der Universitäten

Der Beitrag präsentiert Überlegungen aus einem studentischen Lehrforschungsprojekt, das im Wintersemester 1994 und im Sommersemester 1995 an der Freien Universität Berlin durchgeführt wurde. Hintergrund für die thematische Ausrichtung des Projekts ist die sich abzeichnende Konjunktur in den Sozialwissenschaften: die Ausbildungskapazität etwa in der Soziologie überschreitet seit langem die Aufnahmefähigkeit des traditionellen, akademisch-universitären Arbeitsmarktes für dieses Fach. Lehrforschungsprojekte sollen helfen, den Studierenden während des Studiums Gelegenheit zu geben, unter praxisnahen Bedingungen wesentliche berufliche Kompetenzen zu erwerben, die sie auch in Tätigkeiten außerhalb der Universitäten anwenden können. Im Vordergrund des Projekts stand sowohl eine Befragung der Soziologen bzgl. ihres beruflichen Selbstverständnisses oder ihrer soziologischen Identität als auch von Entscheidungsträgern bei den beschäftigenden außeruniversitären Institutionen und Wirtschaftsunternehmen. Die Ergebnisse der Befragung lassen bei den Soziologen selber deutlich eine Kritik an der soziologischen Ausbildung und an ihrer Praxisferne erkennen. Andererseits sind es bevorzugt außerfachliche Kompetenzen wie Teamfähigkeit, Kommunikativität und Organisationsfähigkeit, weswegen Soziologen bevorzugt in außeruniversitären Institutionen eingestellt werden. "Der Beitrag geht der These nach, dass es insbesondere die im Pragmatismus bereits angelegte und in der Sozialtheorie von Anselm L. Strauss soziologisch ausgearbeitete, besondere Fassung des Verhältnisses von Perspektivität und Prozessualität ist, die die Leistungsfähigkeit des pragmatistisch-interaktionistischen Ansatzes ausmacht, und dass dieses Potential gerade durch die spezifischen Themen und Probleme der neueren Wissenschafts- und Technikforschung im Kontext der "science and technology studies" (STS) zur Entfaltung kommt und so Anstöße auch in Richtung auf die allgemein- soziologische Theoriebildung geben kann. Dazu wird zunächst das soziologische und sozialphilosophische "Erbe" des pragmatistischen Interaktionismus rekapituliert, also vor allem die Bezugspunkte im klassischen Pragmatismus und in der Chicagoer Soziologie. Soziologie in kriegerischen Zeiten

Anknüpfend an bisherige Debatte in diese Zeitschrift rekonstruiert der Beitrag unter Bezug auf eine soziologiegeschichtliche Studie von Anne Rawls die Entstehung und Persistenz eines pejorativen Narrativs über qualitative Sozialforschung und das begleitende Theoriearsenal. Insbesondere wird herausgearbeitet, wie in zentralen Statements von Protagonist*innen der Akademie-Gründung dieses aus den USA des zweiten Weltkriegs stammende Narrativ bedient und damit fortgeschrieben wird. Der Autor betont dagegen, dass für einen fruchtbaren Diskurs im Fach die wechselseitige Anerkennung der Dignität der opponierenden Sprecher*innenposition unabdingbar ist. The paper picks up on recent discussions in this journal about the role of methods and theory in sociology, the various divides between quantitative and qualitative research, and the dispute over unified science vs. multi-perspectivity in theory and methods. Relying on a study by Anne Rawls the argument is especially focusing on the parallels between a pejorative narrative about qualitative methods and interactionist theory from the times of WW II and the rhetoric recently used in arguing for the split-off of a so-called Akademie für Soziologie. The obvious is suggested: A fruitful debate requires all participants to respectfully acknowledge the scientific and personal dignity of their opponents

"Die Replik auf Bruno Hildenbrand befasst sich kritisch mit dem von ihm artikulierten Verständnis von Strukturiertheit, Strukturierung und Handlung im Vergleich von Grounded Theory und Objektiver Hermeneutik. Dazu wird auf die epistemologischen und sozialtheoretischen Hintergründe der von Anselm Strauss vertretenden Variante der Grounded Theory zurückgegriffen und gezeigt, dass der aus dem Pragmatismus entlehnte Begriff von Realität, Struktur und Handeln sowie die Konzeption von Forschung als iterativ-zyklischer Problemlösungsprozess gerade nicht defizitär in Sachen Strukturiertheit sozialer Interaktionen ist und daher auch keiner Synthese mit der Objektiven Hermeneutik und ihrem kompromisslosen Regelbegriff bedarf." April 2018 an der Universität Bremen veranstalteten Workshops zum Thema "Archivierung und Zugang zu qualitativen Daten".
