In spite of the number of studies available in the field there is still no consistent data regarding the issue of life satisfaction among nurses at this stage of life. The aim of the study was to explore chosen factors associated with the life satisfaction of Polish nurses at the retirement age. Methods: A quantitative approach was adopted. Data was collected using a survey questionnaire to be completed by 135 nurses (100%) at the retirement age from seven randomly chosen District Chambers of Nurses and Midwives in Poland. Two research tools were used: a questionnaire developed by the authors and the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) by E. Diener. The collected data was analysed using  STATISTICA version 10.0.Results:  Statistically significant variables affecting the level of life satisfaction included the type of professional activity, type of workplace and managerial functions served, and also affiliation with a given District Chamber of Nurses and Midwives. There was no significant correlation between the level of life satisfaction and the level of job satisfaction among the nurses surveyed. Conclusions: A correlation was identified between some elements of professional activity and the life satisfaction of nurses at the retirement age. This should be taken into account when considering different aspects of the organisation of nurses’ work. In the light of the changes of retirement schemes across the world a broader discussion is needed regarding the issue of the life satisfaction of nurses at the retirement age in order to study the possible correlations between their professional activity and satisfaction with life. Developing a clear strategy for planning the forms of activation of retired nurses and using their potential and experience in the healthcare system is recommended, especially given the situation of nurses shortage. Key words: Ageing,  Job satisfaction, Nurses, Personal satisfaction, Poland, Retiremen

Admission Primary health care is the first level of a professional medical service, to which patients with their ailments and health problems apply. Access to basic health care services should be free from any physical, organizational and financial barriers due to the willingness to use the services of various patients. Objective of the work The aim of the work was to get to know the expectations of women regarding the medical care provided in the gynaecological clinic. In order to achieve the research objective, the issues concerning, among other things, the level of satisfaction of women with the functioning and offering of medical services in the gynecological clinic as well as the expectations of women during visits to the gynecological clinic were chosen. Material and methods The research was based on the method of a diagnostic survey using a standardized questionnaire, which was addressed to women using gynecological outpatient services. Results The research shows that the most frequent respondents visited the gynecologist once every three years, (49.33%, n = 74). Statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between the professional activity of the surveyed women and the frequency of visits to the gynecologist (p = 0.004). The study showed that most often during the visit to the gynecological clinic, the respondents expected: gynecological examination (93.33%), cytological examination (83.33%) and breast examination (69.33%). Conclusions Expectations of women during a visit to the gynecological clinic concern primarily the obtaining of information on research and treatment. Women using the gynecological clinic are satisfied with the offered medical services and the way the clinic operates. Women aged 30-41 with higher education are significantly more satisfied with the gynecological clinic than women under 30 and over 40 years of age and with basic or vocational and married education

    Get PDF
Purpose: Neoplastic diseases remain the second most common cause of death, behind cardiovascular diseases, and breast cancer is the leading cause of death among women worldwide. Increased incidence of neoplastic diseases is also known to be accompanied by lipid metabolism disorders.Method: Blood samples for lipid profile testing were taken from the two studied groups, which comprised 110 women with breast cancer and 70 healthy women. Lipid profile testing was conducted on venous blood samples collected among both groups of women on an empty stomach. Statistical analyses were performed using the IBM SPSS Statistics 20 software package. Results: A statistically significant (p<0.05) majority of women with breast cancer had abnormal TC results (67.3%). A statistically significant (p<0.05) majority of control group women (90.0%) had normal HDL-C results. More women with breast cancer (87.3%) had abnormal LDL-C results than healthy women (62.9%), which represented a statistically significant difference (p<0.05). Conclussions: Abnormal lipid profile significantly impacts breast cancer incidence. At the same time it is under influence of abnormal eating habits and low physical activity. Community and oncology nurses, having considerable knowledge about health and lifestyle of their patients, should be more involved in basic education to decrease cancer risk, especially by women with alarming LDL-C level

Introduction. Malnutrition is defined as an eating disorder or a nutritional state in which micro- and macronutrient deficiencies, as well as caloric deficiency, have a negative effect on the human body, its tissues and the well-being of the organism and the results of treatment [3].Aim of the job. Assess the risk of malnutrition in patients being prepared for surgery.Results. When assessing the risk of malnutrition using the NRS 2002 Scaleit was found that 89,93% (n = 92) patients required careful observation and repeated nutrition assessment in 7 days, while in 10,68% (n = 11) it was necessary to introduce nutritional treatment before surgery.Conclusions.1.      Most of them had normal nutrition and if they were malnourished, it was mostly mild.2.      Among demographic factors, variables such as male and over 40 years of age were slightly more likely to be predisposed to the use of nutritional treatment.3.      Pre-operative feeding support requires patients with oncological diagnosis, who stay in the ward for more than 4 days, and also those who have been taken on an emergency basis
